To Concierge or Not

Opinions please. I have seen a number of people say concierge is the way to go. Is it possible to upgrade to concierge when you check in? I don't mean a comp, but something I am willing to pay for. I just don't know if it is worth the extra money. I am springing for the Yacht Club for Mom and me, so I'm already spending big bucks, even if it's value season.

It depends on what you are looking for. If you want help with your Priority Seatings and your itinerary, than Concierge is the way to go. If you are light eaters and want convenience, the lounge has very good food offerings - especially breakfast and dessert.

I will say one thing, once you stay on the Concierge floor, it is hard to go back to staying in a regular room even if it's in a deluxe!

Boy is that ever the truth Lisa....we stayed at YC Concierge last Dec. and I can't imagine staying anywhere else.

Anyway, to help with your question Kim....It would be best to book concierge ahead of time. One reason is to take advantage of any discounts that may be available (i.e. Disney Club or AP). I got a significant discount using my AP (purchased just for the discount). Also if you are booked into concierge, you can avoid standing in a line for check in. You let the valet know you're concierge and they take you directly upstairs. Nice perk.

Now is it worth the extra money? I think so. But like Preference Hair Color.....it's because I'm worth it I like the extra pampering and am willing to pay for it. We had DH's elderly parents with us (booked them a separate room) and concierge's help was invaluable.

Concierge also got us a Cindy's ressie for 13 people, which I thought was an impossible task.

The food in the lounge was wonderful. Breakfast offerings were just enough for us not to have to go out to breakfast. Also, the fact that they had the coffee out at 6:00 am was a big plus for me, as I'm an early riser and there was no place else to get coffee that early. In fact we were stopped frequently on our way to the hot tub (early am ritual for us) and people asked "Where did you get the coffee?" I replied as non snooty as I possible could "In the concierge lounge, sorry"

In the evenings the appetizers and desserts were terrific.

Just be prepared to be less than satisfied with staying at any other level of service. . .we did concierge about four trips back and thought we'd do it once and then just move on--HA!--we haven't stayed in a regular room since (EXCEPT an unplanned early arrival night last summer--airline problems--when we hit POR for one night).

During our last trip we were at Polynesian Concierge with all good intentions of staying at BC for the last two nights in a standard, heavily discounted room--that was the plan anyway. Well, to make a long story short--after two days at Polynesian we changed our plans and upgraded to BC concierge for those last two days. We can rationalize anything!

We will be headed back to Polynesian concierge in 44 days and we didn't even contemplate staying in a nonconcierge room--we only gave cursory thought to a different hotel!

I'm with FigmentVI--we're worth it!

Almost every time we stay at a deluxe, we ask the cost and availability of an upgrade.
One time at WL we got an upgrade for only $20 a night.

Concierge is SO MUCH FUN!!!! It is hard to go back to a standard room when you have stayed Concierge. however, sometimes the extra money is difficult to justify. We are staying Garden View at the Poly next month. Because there are 8 of us, we need 2 rooms. Concierge would have cost another $1300. With that money, I get to take a WDW trip in October, so it's not worth it now. If you can get a good rate or a cheap upgrade -- take it!!!! You will certainly enjoy it!

I believe the rooms are the same size as standard rooms. There is the addition of robes and turn down service (with nice chocolates) that standard rooms do not have.

Hmpfffff.......I treat my daughters to YC Concierge and this is the thanks I get.

There are 2 beds Meggan. So it's either Holly, me or the couch.

Having stayed on the Concierge level at the Yacht Club and in standard rooms, there is no difference in the room, other than robes and turn down service. Interestly enough, turn down service was once the standard in all of the Disney Deluxe resorts; now it seems the only way to get that service is to pay a lot more money. I don't feel that the upgrade to concierge is worth the extra $$$ unless the amount is less than $35, which it rarely is. I feel I can handle making my own PS and if something is that important to me, I will book it before leaving home. I feel that Disney overcharges for a service that ranges from $25 to $50 per night extra in four star resorts elsewhere.

I believe turndown service is available at the Deluxe resorts at no charge. You just need to call and request it.

That is correct, but one shouldn't have to call and request it when it used to be a standard in all of the deluxe hotels. I also understand that it is standard practice at Disney's Grand Californian. I have called and requested it in the past and have gotton turn down service without the chocolates. Somehow it is never the same as when they just spontaneously show up, provide additional towels and turn the bed down.
