To bring or rent stroller

Our first family trip to Disney World (or anywhere big for that matter) was just booked this week. We are going May 9-16 with our two boys. Right now one of our big questions is whether to haul our stroller for one with us by plane, or just rent a double stroller for the length of stay. Our youngest will turn two during the stay and our oldest is 5. I know my oldest son will walk most of the time, but Disney is much more walking than his little feet are used to. Thanks to that I know he will likely want to hitch a ride from time to time. For those who have used the double strollers, how do you think this will work? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Haven't done the double stroller thing, but our 5-1/2yr old absolutely needed the stroller on our last trip (just last month). You may consider renting from orlandostrollerrentals.com or abbf.com instead of from WDW. The WDW strollers are expensive, sturdy, and hard plastic, so may be not the most comfy for a 2 yr old (consider if he may take naps in the stroller - ours did take the occasional nap in stroller at WDW, at that age). There may also be a stroller swap on the budget board that you could get in on as well. In short, I think you may find having a double stroller to be totally worth it. How much stamina your ds has will probably determine how much he will want to be in a stroller, but chances are, he will use it. :)

hth!

I went down last month with my 3 youngest and my Mom and rented from orlandostrollerrentals.com -- totally the best decision I made for the trip! They delivered a double jogger (City Mini All Terrain Double Stroller) to the hotel upon our arrival. We were able to use it to and from the parks -- a blessing for those late nights when one, or more, of the kids were too tired to walk back to the bus, and they picked it up from Bell Services at the hotel when we were done with it! I didn't have to lug our stroller through the airport -- so nice! The stroller was perfect, light weight, plenty of storage and a breeze to fold for the buses. I would have purchased the stroller if I had use for it at home! (and DH wouldn't have killed me!:rotfl: )

Wow, I can not believe how much less expensive renting the stroller is from orlandostrollerrentals.com! One quick question since you used this double stroller with your children, did your 5 year old fit comfortably in it? It seems much better for my youngest to take naps in, which is needed. I will definitely be keeping this as a huge option and will investigate the availability for when we are there.

my small 8 y/o and regular size 6 y/o shared the orlandostrollerrentals stroller in Sept. They were both very comfortable in it. I also recommend them. The stroller and customer service were awesome!

All 3 of my kids used the stroller and for the first time ever my DS3 and DS5 both napped in it. DD6 is about average size for her age DS5 is tall but really slim and DS3 is tall and husky -- they all fit very comfortably. They actually fought over who would ride instead of who would walk! It was great! I'll rent from them for all our future trips!

Thank you for the information as well. I am heading off to check abbf.com now. I love the idea of renting for a more comfortable stroller for the little guy. My only concern (my mother mentioned), is there insurance on the stroller in case someone at the park walks off with it. I certainly hope it would not happen, but you never know. Something I am going to look into now.

I ate the cost of a WDW rental, only because I had 2 almost 5 year olds, and a 7 year old, and they could all jump in and out (more like a wagon - they've all been out of strollers for years). However, with a 2 year old, I think you should rent an off-site double, so you have a chance at a nap.

Thanks, that is exactly what I needed to hear.

I just got off the phone with Orlando Stroller Rentals. The woman was extremely helpful. She told us how things work, how people have protected the strollers, and what they do to make sure it is clearly your stroller during the stay. Of course, I also asked about availability during the dates we need. Oh and I happened to mention to her that I found out about their service via disboards.com and she was thrilled to hear it.

For my Oct trip with my DS3 and DS6, I used OrlandoStrollerRentals.com. I absolutely loved the double stroller, it was fabulous, very affordable, more comfortable than the hard plastic disney ones, and very easy to maneuver. Both fit very comfortably in it.

Thank you so much for pointing me to your review. Now I know that this is the stroller for us. I was so impressed with the phone conversation that I had with them today. Love the philosophy and reason for starting the rental business. I will definitely be booking it ASAP.

I love that stroller review! Thanks so much for that. That stroller looks great and I like the fact that it comes to the resort so we can use it for our walks back to the room. The only thing it's lacking is a cup holder (on top for adults). Do the Disney strollers even have those? Also, what does either place do for stolen strollers? Obviously, we wouldn't leave any valuables in the stroller, but what protections are there for strollers that you're renting?

Someone else may be able to answer your question about the Disney Strollers since I am not sure about it.

After I read the suggestions on this thread, and went to the websites, I called to tell my mother about it. Of course, she thought it was an amazing idea. Her next question was about stroller insurance or something in case the stroller was taken or something happens. When I called and asked about it this is what I was told from Orlando Stroller Rentals. She said that since they opened (unofficially in May, and officially in July) they have had no problems with this. She did say that many others beside myself had questioned this. She had been told by at least one person that to ease their fear they were able to pop off one of the front wheels really easily and stick it into a bag when going into attractions. So that may be something to look into. The other item is that your stroller has what appears to be a laminated name plate securely attached to the bottom of a stroller. If you look at the photos from the review above you can see it.

I think DH and I have decided to do this for our trip in May. It certainly looks easy to use, especially going on and off Disney buses, and will keep both of our boys comfortable.

We stayed at the Poly, in case it makes a difference.

I loved having a stroller for my 5 year old:
- walking to the TTC and back
- on the monorail at night when she was exhausted
- in the airport for the 8 pm return flight.

I say bring your own!

Thanks for your thoughts. Unfortunately, my stroller will not accommodate my two children. I only own an almost six year old single stroller. I know my 5 year old will need to hitch a ride. I am also not planning on buying a double stroller or I would have 19 months ago when my youngest was born. We have very early morning flights going and coming, so the boys should be fresh to walk. With the need for a double stroller, the rental seems to be the way to go for us.

this is the review that sold me for our last trip! Thanks so much for posting it!

I didn't read through this whole thread so I don't know if this has been mentioned to you or not I would rent from www.orlandostrollerrentals.com if you decide to rent and not disney. I had one rented but we ended up not needing it from the 18-24 of december and it was 90 dollars. I own the single stroller that I use daily for my 5yr old and love it. best of luck w/ your decision and have a great trip.

Yes, others mentioned Orlando Stroller Rentals and I have called them. I believe we will be renting a double stroller from them (we do not own one) and it will keep my then almost 6 and turning 2 year olds comfortable.

I'm so glad that my review was helpful to you!! It was such a great double stroller and having pickup/dropoff at the hotel was wonderful. It really made our trip so much nicer. I couldn't wait to get home and share my experience, plus I knew pictures of the stroller would make it easier to to visualize your kids in it! Have a great trip!!

I brought my own cup holder from home and attached it to the middle bar.

yep i am another fan of orlando stroller rentals. love love love it. i put my 2 and 5 year olds in. they were both quite comfy, they are peanuts but there was room to spare. ds5 was 42" and he was fine. my only advice is to think about a rain cover, it is the only thing i felt it needed and didnt have, we used a poncho but it was rough as we were there during tropical storm fay. otherwise stroller and company two thumbs up
