To bring or rent stroller

yep i am another fan of orlando stroller rentals. love love love it. i put my 2 and 5 year olds in. they were both quite comfy, they are peanuts but there was room to spare. ds5 was 42" and he was fine. my only advice is to think about a rain cover, it is the only thing i felt it needed and didnt have, we used a poncho but it was rough as we were there during tropical storm fay. otherwise stroller and company two thumbs up

Glad to hear another positive review. My 5 year old is 44" now and has been growing taller. The 19 month old may be 30" now, so both should be good to go in it. I will investigate the weather for the time in May and see about rain covers. Does anyone know if they have things from the rental place that you can add on for an additional fee? That would be very helpful, although it sounds like a poncho without tropical storm rain may work.

Great review on the rentals (of the Baby Jogger)! I just got one for our trip next week and it's great to see they are good for my 4 and 6 year olds (38 and 44lbs).

Being a mom of 2 yr old twin boys, I would say that your options are:

Bring your own stroller - you can get by with an umbrella stroller and save your money.

Buy 2 inexpensive umbrella strollers while there. Donate them when you are finished with them. You can donate strollers to "Give Kids the World" in Kissimmee. Just leave the stroller at the front desk of the Disney Resort you are staying at and they will contact them and they will pick it up.

The prices on the orlandostroller.com web site are not bad, and definitely better than than Disney stroller prices (at approximately $31/day or $27/day for length-of-stay) and their strollers really are not that comfy. Plus, they are on a first-come-first-served basis. If you have your own, then it's not an issue.

Either way, I would say to make sure you bring along a sun shade and a storm/rain cover for whichever method you decide on.

Thanks for the ideas. I have to check into getting a sun shade and rain cover for the rental, I just do not want to spend too much money on something I will not use again. My 5 year old will never fit into a cheap umbrella stroller. He is 44" tall now, in four months he could be even taller.

Haven't done the double stroller thing, since we only have a singleton, but I know I definately appreciated having our stroller with us at WDW. It was easier to keep DS with us and make sure he didn't run off as well as giving us some place to stash our stuff..maps, empty souveneir cups, etc.

Just wanted to say that I own the Single version and we used it for the first time in September at WDW. We bought a Rayshade a few years ago for use on our Mac Quest and Peg P3. We did bring it along this trip in case we needed it but the Baby Jogger Mini's sunshade is more than enough for great sun protection!! It is super big and you can leave it at either of 2 settings. The seat is nice and rioomy as well. My DD was about 35 inches and 20+ pounds at 26 months when we used it and even her legs were protected when the shade was fully extended.

Thank you again to everyone that replied to my original and subsequent questions. I just booked a double stroller from Orlando Stroller Rentals. They were amazing to deal with and thanks to all of the reviews here I know they are great in the parks.

to cancer survivor 06 or anyone who may know the answer: does your 8 yr old fit into the single? my DD8 has a muscle disorder and we are going back and forth about where to rent from, obviously we need something sturdy and thought the wdw rentals was the only way to go, she is 49' today and we are going in may, her 5 year old sister is 40' not sure about the both of them in a double though...thanks

Your best bet may be to call Shannon at Orlando Stroller Rentals. She was fabulous to deal with. Also know that they have Special Needs Push Chair available. It looks amazing and was mentioned on the PodCast that was done about the company. I know that the double stroller holds up to 100 pounds and she said there would be no issue with my 5 year old who is 44" now. Good luck!

We brought our own stroller last time. This time I got in on a stroller swap for a double for only $10 for the entire length of stay. :woohoo:

I saw many of the stroller swaps for doubles. Unfortunately they were smaller and would not accommodate my son who is 5 and 44" son. Most of them have weight limits of 40 pounds on either side. Again, he is over that and will almost be 6 when we go in May. Glad that you were able to take advantage of the great deal!

Renting is expensive and I find one of the places you really need one is to the busses after a long evening and getting back to the rooms at night.

We bought a great double umbrella stroller (for our 4 and 5 eyar olds) it is a Jeep all weather double umbrella stroller. It is light and compact but they fit in it great. I bought it new online a few weeks ago for $65.00 (shipping included).

The stroller you bought sounds really great. When reading up on it, it says it will hold up to 70 pounds. My boys would be pushing that to the limit. Plus my son will almost be 6 at the time and is very tall. My little guy (turning 2 in May on our trip) needs something that will recline for naps. Thanks to Orlando Stroller Rentals we are able to take the stroller we get with us anywhere and everywhere in Disney.

I take a double jogger every time I go. I have a 2 yr old and a 5 yr old as well. My 5 yr old still gets very tired and likes to sit for a few minutes to rest so I wouldnt dream of not having my double.

If you have a double, are driving down, and have the room to pack it, I would take it. Save the money from renting one if you dont have to. You can always buy souvies or dinner or something with the money you would save...

ps I have an InStep Safari TT double stroller and it wasnt all that expensive....but I got it two years ago...

I would love to save the money, but it really is not possible. Since my oldest was nearly four when the little guy was born we did not buy a double stroller. With the stroller rental place outside of Disney I will be saving almost $100 and have a nicer stroller for the boys. I wish we could avoid renting one, but I know my big guy will be tired from all of the walking at Disney. Being able to put him in it comfortable is well worth the money in my mind.

Take a look at the stroller swap threads. Most of them are free, but some do charge like $10 to do it for the week. That will save you some money!!!

I have looked at a lot of the stroller swaps. The problem with the double strollers is most do not accommodate children that weigh more than 40 pounds. My son will be almost 6 when we go and is about 43 pounds now. Most of the smaller strollers are lighter weight and are not made for kids over 3-4 years old.

Are you sure you have looked at doubles and the weight recommendation? My double has a 100lb weight limit. maybe check again and make sure thats the case. My stroller is just like one on one of the swaps. my DD is 5 and weighs 54lbs. My DS is 2 and weighs 32lbs. I know my stroller will handle her for another year. Check again to make sure.....
