To be a Disneyland apostate...

Dole Whip is not my bag baby

I also really dislike Toon Town and Roger Rabbit ride. Love the movie but the ride does not do it for me.

This thread is funny. I completely agree with some (monte cristo). Yet others are blasphemous- popcorn?! Bengal BBQ?! What is wrong with you people? :)

Mine is the Matterhorn. Every few years, I try again to see if I am wrong, but nope, still hate it. I walk past the huge line shaking my head regularly.

Lots of talk about the Monte Cristo.

My last trip to Disneyland was in 2004. It was also my first time dining at Blue Bayou and while I loved the Monte Cristo going down, let's just say I couldn't keep it down. I was never so sick in my life. I remember calling the front desk (we were staying at the DH) to warn them to notify the Blue Bayou.

Talk about apologetic. Not only did they offer to send a doctor to my room, the chef at the Blue Bayou called to personally apologize. Their handling of my situation was a lesson in customer service by which all others should follow. It was our only day at Disneyland, so obviously we never made it back to the park that night. They gave me a number to call when I got back home, likely to get compensated for our trip, but I never did call. After the way they handled the situation, I didn't feel the need to be reimbursed.

I think that the excitement for the monte cristo is that they're not very common in a lot of places, but when I have seen them on menus, they've been executed better. I also think the fact that it's not on the menu at Denny's or the local greasy spoon is because people just don't eat deep fried sandwiches anymore.

I'm with everyone on F! and WOC too. 25 years ago it was really cool to see the water screens and pirates fighting on Columbia. Then once I paid attention to the story, i quickly lost interest. I'm happy enough catching a glimpse of it every few years. I wasn't that impressed with WOC the first time, but going to AP preview with all the glow ears was pretty cool. Winter dreams and the 60th version have made me appreciate the original. It could be a really cool show, but it just isn't. I'd like to see them switch around segments more often from the original, if anything.

I don't have any issue with the popcorn, which I don't get very often. But I have noticed since that AP popcorn promotion started that the kernels seem smaller and it's a lot saltier. I wonder if it's because they're constantly popping it to keep up with demand. It's definitely been fresh, though. I've had to wait for it to finish popping twice now.

A friend of mine recently went for the first time and said of POTC (my favorite): "Yeah okay, there were pirates. Big deal". I was floored. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I know some may be "floored" by this but I don't like the parades or the fireworks. Actually I don't mind either, I just don't like standing shoulder to shoulder with people for 20 minutes for a few oohs and ahs. Same for World of Color and Fantasmic. I hate Small World and Autopia as well.

It's great how well the chef and the Disneyland Hotel handled your illness. Did you eat the whole thing? :flower3:

Most of mine are already mentioned, but I vote for:

Food:
  • Dole Whip
  • Plaza Inn chicken
  • Mint Julip
Rides:
  • Autopia
  • Nemo
  • Toy Story Midway Mania

This thread is so funny. It is so fascinating to see the vast difference in opinions....things that have been deemed popular "must haves" are definite must nots for so many others. Different strokes..

I will say, how can anyone not like a Dole Whip!?! :confused3:laughing:

I forgot to add in my earlier post..Tigger tails! What is the attraction to those things? Ha!

The vast majority of the treats. I used to have some favorites in the candy shops but they're almost all gone, replaced with Rice Krapsie treats and other such ickiness.

Wait, are you suggesting there is anyone out there that likes the Fun Wheel. I find that hard to believe.

Yeah - that would be me! No one else in my family can stand/stomach it, so it's been a while.....
For me the worst has to be - Dole Whips! I hate, hate, hate them! Also, Mickey pretzels - super gross.
Ride: Matterhorn. Worst...Ride...Ever!

The clam chowder in DCA is some of the worst I've ever had. The sourdough bread bowl was decent, but definitely not the chowder.

I went to Rancho del Zocalo for the first time on my last trip. Did not enjoy it at all. But then, I live in an area with really good Mexican food, so I have fairly high standards. RDL was only one step above Taco Bell in my experience.

Fantasmic is meh. I don't much care if I never ride Peter Pan again, and since I refuse to wait in line longer than 20 minutes for it, there's a good chance I won't. :P Meeting characters is never on my priority list, and character dining is usually a waste of time and money (the exception would be if I'm with my nieces and nephews, in which case I'd rather pay for a decent meal at Ariel's than wait to meet princesses). Paint the Night is the only parade worth watching, and I won't wait hours to see it.

Im with everyone on the WoC saw it once don't care to see it again or parades unless i happen to be walking by imight stop and look but definitely not wasting time looking for a spot and waiting.

For the person who said they are glad the Aladding show is gone- shame on you!! lol I loved it

I haven't gone in Toon Town in over 10years and I've been an AP holder for the last 5 of those years!! As far as food, the turkey legs are just nasty. They taste greasy and gamey. And the churros and popcorn are ALWAYS stale LOL
