When I was in school I missed over 100 days of school one year. I had all my work done and was still at the top of my class in grades. I passed that year with an 87 Average. In grade 6 my hockey team traveled across the northern states for 6 months. We did have a school board tutor with us for teaching us in the hotel meeting rooms. Not that we really did anything otehr than talk about hockey that whole trip. In HS in 5 years grades 9-13 I missed about 350 days total if not more I still graduated with a 92 overall average. Untill our daughter who is currently in grade 2 feels she shouldn't miss school for vacations to Disney we will continue to take her once she feels she shouldn't miss class to do it then we will look at different dates. My job does not allow me travel time during the summer we are busiest then setting up the schoolboards wireless networks during their downtime. We always go the first couple weeks of Dec and when we return our DD has a week of school then off again for Xmas holidays. She still has an A grade and we have no worries about her having that change. Our school also thinks it is great that we tae the kids to Disney every year and her teachers have even said it has been educational for her classmates to learn about the different sites and animals we come across while we are in Florida. We also take them to the coast for a couple days while we are there. So until the kids we have 3 of them get to the point they are not able to miss the time at school we will continue to go then our 2 youngest are only 1.5 and the other will be 3 on the weekend so we still have some time before we worry about it with them. Our daughter also had her work done all of it for the 2 weeks by the time we were done our second day @ WDW.

Oh I hear you, jrabbit. I was just stating what's been going on up here for years. The equitable funding issue (i.e., the Claremont decision as it's known up here) has been a fiasco from day 1 and has never really been implemented fairly. It's like the Robin Hood principle. As it stands right now, the local tax payers are primarily still funding the local schools. I agree, there's something to be said for local control.

Well, this has evolved from cruise related to more of a discussion of school funding, state differences, etc. So feel free to take this on over to our Debate Board if you would like to continue the subject there. Thanx for all the input. :)
