I just finished reading a thread where real names were flowing, places of employment being discussed, specific amounts of money in the form of child support etc.

I tend to think some people do give TMI, especially in this day and age where any crackpot has access to the internet.

I try to be very careful with the info I give. I notice too that peoplpe give specifics about when and where they will be.

So tell me doyou censor yourself or am I the only one?

Thank you,

Jane Doe

Yes, definitely too much info.

Didn't see the thread in question, but I think it's up to the individual that's posting. If they're comfortable with giving out the info, then that's fine. It really doesn't bother me.

I censor a lot of info like that myself. Don't feel the need to share it nor do I feel comfortable having some info out in public.

Way too much info. One time I read a thread where a parent posted their daughter's picture along with her modeling dossier with all sorts of personal info including full name etc - even bra size! I pm'd her recommending she remove it - she never did. Why would people put their families at risk?

I still have never given my children's names or anything that would identify them.

I alos agree that alot of people give out way too much information. I am sure it is done innocently enough but the amount of info given sometimes baffles me. I would never be comfortable even posting pictures. I'd rather be cautious and safe. Paranoia, well maybe, but its something I can live with.
Also, the posting of names, hometowns, etc is something I don't understand:confused:

If I'm not the one posting information, nor am I the one information is being posted ABOUT, I don't see where I should be concerned about someone else posting TMI.

I remember when dan murphy wanted to share something with me .....and I gave him my son in laws work place......I mean I was freaking out.......my first post on a board was a recipe board almost 4 years ago and I feared that these people would know who I was and where I lived ......but I am old too....:p so more paranoid then you youngsters

It amazes me that some people post the real full names. Where they live [town and state] and sometimes even their street names. Then later post the exact dates they will be out of town [WDW for example] and often list in posts if they have pets at home or not, housesitters, etc. Way TMI! This would be a perfect place for someone to gather info to committ a break in crime.

Most websites/bulletin boards have a fair number of people who would go to any length to get MORE information from someone they become obsessed with (read: Stalker).........

I used to share lots of info about my life but not any more. I lend support to others but don't open up much about my own personal life anymore on an open public forum. It's just too dangerous.

I have a hrd time giving out my first name on an open thread.

Then again, The Dis is a safe place...right???

:bounce:

Dan, you are too funny!:p

I have never given names nor do I post pictures for all the reasons stated above.

I prefer to stay safe. I use my real first name (since there are so many Mary's in the world). I've shared information with some, but not in a public place like the board. That's why when I've been putting together a web site for our cruise group I made it password protected. Better safe than sorry.
