Good evening ladies! It has been a very good long weekend. We had a quiet Christmas day at home, just the 4 of us, until later in the evening when my step-DD, SonIL and GS came over to visit. It gets so quiet after the GS leaves! Santa was good to everyone. DD was very pleased that Santa brought her the big Breyer horse hauler she had wanted so bad plus a bit of other stuff. DS was pleased with all his music cds and a few pc games. He has already solved his first mystery as Sherlock Holmes and has been busy the last few days trying to take over the world.
My sister did not end up making it over for Christmas which was a bit disappointing but on Sunday we did go to her restaurant and get in a nice visit. I have lost track of how long it had been since we have seen each other. Several years obviously because I barely recognized her. It was really good to see her again.
Then today my friend who I have known for 40 years came to visit me. Truth be told she is more like a sister to me than my own sister. We had a wonderful visit. My DS did too since she has a beautiful DD.
They are 6 months apart in age. It was so great catching up on everything new and all the old stuff. We got on Facebook and looked up my first boyfriend. That was pretty funny. He was still pretty cute but a little gray and put on a little weight just like the rest of us. We also scoped out her ex and his new wifey. In typical ex ****** fashion he has the new wife and has been putting her before his child. He and DF's DD were planning a trip to San Francisco but he ended up taking the new step mom there as their honeymoon and left DF's poor DD out. What a jerk! While we were thinking of such painful things we even got around to a discussion comparing our side affects of pre-menopause. Needless to say, we had a good day reminiscing.
Pikester, I am glad your kids are feeling better. The new Wii sounds like lots of fun for the whole family.
JOCAmom, I was a cruel mom and made my DD hold off all the way until 9:30 before waking up everyone and opening gifts. Sorry that you have to deal with a selfish ex wife. I was always so glad I did not have children with either of my exes so I did not have any remaining ties to them!
DL55, oh boy! Vacation planning sounds like fun!
whgrn, sounds a bit excessive, especially for someone without a job. I hope you DD is feeling better by now.
LITC, I would love to see a photo of your mom. Very nice for you to get a break from DH's fathers. I think a little peace and quiet and curled up with a good book sounds wonderful vs the alternative.
MagiKitty, sounds like a wonderful holiday but a crappy day of driving. I agree. A GPS that gave out compliments would be a great invention! I like the sarcastic idea too.
D&D, glad you managed to survive the family festivities unscathed. We also usually try to teach the kids the importance of giving by having them pick out some little gifts. We went grocery shopping at
Walmart right after we got back and never made it back out again. I forgot all about having DD pick out gifts for the boys. Maybe she will get her shopping done next year when we have no vacations in December. DH took DS out on Christmas Eve for their annual last minute shopping while it was snowing so at least DS ended up learning about the spirit of giving.
So how did you come out? Smarter than a 5th grader? I would be too scared to even try!
I just don't think I'm killing too many threads anymore. I don't go out there in the big DIS world and post too much. There's just not much need to do that with you all here.
That is so true! I barely read anything else on the Dis these days. Of course, now that I will not be researching for WDW I may actually have some extra time on my hands to venture out there. DL does not require nearly as much planning.
Guess you will have to count me out for any TKer meets any time soon. Too many places to go and not enough free time.... plus I just live too darn far south. On the other hand if anyone ever happens to be if the Fort Worth/Dallas area.... let me know!
Sukie, enjoy that vacation time!
BKMETV, that must have been pretty cool watching the Olympic Torch pass by.
Bad news after the holidays...... I am pretty sure I gained most of my 10 pounds that I lost back. Thankfully, I have just about had my fill of sweets. AND, DH is demanding that after New Years we get started back on a diet. I so hate that word!
However,
Wendy, I have to agree with you that I feel much better when I am not filling myself full of things I shouldn't be eating anyway.
