TKers Take the Fifth!

I almost forgot to ask D&D something. Did you have the DIS close down last night so I would have to go to bed and not get my post count up? I was posting when all of a sudden a message appears that it was closing down for 30 min. Not very friendly of them...so I just went to bed.

We don't put anything expensive in their stockings. For the little ones, it's usually candy, socks (always have to buy socks here), craft supplies, coloring books, crayons. All the "good" gifts are wrapped. For the older 2, they get candy, magazines, socks (again), trial size bottles of cologne/perfume, make-up, razors.

As soon as the kids get up, they are allowed to go through their stockings. They know they have to wait to open anything but it takes me a while to get going in the morning. So, until I'm ready, they can at least look through them.

I didn't get expensive in mine either...until I was older and my Channel was in there. I always had a silver dollar in it too when I was little. I was a little sad that mom didn't get them out this year.

I will say, I've been reading some of the Christmas present threads on here and I've been shocked by what people buy for their kids. Or actually, how much that they buy for their kids. I saw someone wanted to get a netbook for their 4 year old. :scared1: I don't even have one of those. What are they going to buy for their kids when they are 13.

I guess it's good they have the money to throw away like that. So many kids think nothing of it...think money grows on trees because the parents give them everything--maybe I should say, more than they need.

Your new siggie looks great. So bright and cheery. :goodvibes

I wonder what will happen to those kids when they have to go out into the real world. Or will mom and dad still do/get everything for them?

That's what is scarey about getting old and having to rely on them to take care of me in my nursing home! :rotfl: They won't care about anyone but themselves!
I guess we shouold not generalize...we have some good TKers here who are doing a great job of raising their kids!

I'm planning on seeing the new Alvin movie after Christmas.
My friends up from FL may not get to stay at Mom's. She lives in the city and there are no parking spaces because of the snow...I should say no extra spaces. I will not park in a space shoveled out by another. There are spaces piled with snow though. I have she space out back shoveled but I'm not sure their car could make it up the hill. Plows don't come up it. Patrick can make it up if it's not icey. The weather report is calling for ice/snow on Fri and Sat. Not a good thing!

I'm not even going to touch the nursing home and you comment because I can't even picture it. Just reading about your travels wears me out.

I need to get to bed. Kids have a 1/2 day tomorrow and then we have to do some cleaning and cooking. And fighting if I'm counting the kids jobs. :rotfl2:

Night!

Howdy ladies!
I am beginning to feel almost normal again. DH finally went back to work yesterday which was a good thing before we ended up calling it quits on our marriage. We almost came to blows on DS's birthday because I did not get up while everyone else was sleeping and make the cake when DH "expected" it. Then we started talking money which never goes well. I am usually pretty easy going but he has really been pushing his luck! Needless to say we must have reached our limit on how many days we can spend together before we both need some space. I am happy with him back at work even if I am still doing laundry, paying bills and listening to fighting kids. I did get all my wrapping done today! Yippee!!!
I have been uploading pictures to my computer but I really don't want to start on a trip report until I get my Photopass pictures together. Still editing on that cause their website is giving me fits. I do have one picture to post to document the brief visit I had with M&N. M&N looks very good but I look like crap cause the Florida weather really did not agree with my hair AND my camera shoots wide angle which is never good when you are already wide to begin with. I have since instructed my DD to NEVER take photos of me again from a sitting position. I did manage to crop off the WIDEST part! Here's proof that I did meet one TKer. (M&N, you were so sweet and it was such a treat to meet you, your mom, and friends.)
Momascamera324-1.jpg

As for the other TKers that I missed meeting.... Pikester and D&D, I am so sorry that it did not work out. I really was looking forward to it. Between being all new at finding our way around WDW, the crazy weather and a randomly changing itinerary my main goals were to keep everyone happy and me not lose my sanity in the process! Unfortunately, that left me little free time to meet up. It was shear luck that DD and I were by ourselves when M&N called. Otherwise, I might have missed her too! Here's hoping we get another chance someday! D&D, still trying to figure out why my phone did not ring. :confused3 I am a product of the dark ages and I am totally electronically challenged so I have never even set up my phone for messages. Looks like some of our other TKers had fun meeting up!

As for our WDW trip.... I hope ya'll will let me still hang around even if we still love Disneyland best. It appears to be a unanimous vote among my family. We enjoyed WDW some but we really missed DL and came home feeling like we had missed our portion of magic. So looks like our next trip will be back to California....probably in 2011.

Here's a few thread names to toss in:
Tkers: Six Shooters Club.... still shootin threads down left and right! or add the Never met a thread we couldn't make dead or Lean, Mean, Thread Killing Machines.
Tkers: Still killin threads but we haven't been deep sixed yet!
Tkers: Our sixth senses still at work.

Oh yeah! Gotta throw this in.... LITC, Walter looks so precious in his Christmas outfit! He looks like a really happy baby!

Bopsmom - Did you like Cape May? Hope you are having a good time. Hi little H!!!!! Hi D!!!:wave2:

Hey! :wave2:
We didn't go the other night because little H wasn't feeling well, it's hell being a 12 yr old girl(if ya KWIM). Poor thing was weepy(no, not another of the seven dwarfs) and so we cancelled and went last night. It was good although I have a shellfish allergy and couldn't eat the shrimp/crab.

The crowds are getting bigger and bigger.I tried to see if I could switch my dinner LTT reservation for a lunch one for Christmas Eve and the guy at the desk said they have been booked solid for 2 months:scared1:

We are going to AK today with dinner at LeCeiller @ 5. We're gonna try and take it slow.

Ya'll are going to laugh. All the planning DM and I did for having xmas with the family has a snag.
DM was going to go to my house, let my maids in today, bring back Winkleman(who is at her house), start prepping the food etc so when we arrive Sat we can have most of it ready.

Well,....come to find out she forgot to take the key to the house :faint: We had 3! copies made and I personally handed her one. DH said he was going to put a spare in my greenhouse-I watched him go out and look for a place so, I figured he'd done it-wrong. He said he'd decided aginst doing that (thanks for telling me), my ditzy friend who has a spare key can't be found ......arrrrrgggghhhhhhh:headache: Looks like I'm gonna be up all night cooking Saturday.

:flower3:
More later. Stay warm:grouphug:

Good morning everyone. I'm getting my things together to go to Mom's until Tuesday. Our FL friends are going to stay until Tue so they can get to Shady Maple. It's closed on Sunday and they are calling for freezing rain on Sat so I won't go in that mess.

Marie---thanks for croping! Thanks for not pointing out my flat hair! The weather was not good for mine either. Everyone thought you and your dd were sweet. I don't remember if I said what my friend said after you left. You weren't what she imagined. I guess that leaves a lot of choices! :lmao: She really meant it in a good way! I will post my version of our meet when I get the time. Everyone says Photobucket is not working too great now and I have dial up so it's always slow for me. I think it's what you are used to and know. I have heard others say DW is too big for them. Just don't say anything negative 'out there' on the DIS! I think it must be tough when you and your dh are used to your own space and doing things without the other around, it must cause stress when you have to adjust. People have said to me it's not too late for me to get married but I totally disagree. I am too set in my ways...I get to come and go when I want. I don't have to consult with my partner on what to do or spend. It is lonely sometimes. I would like to have someone to help when something goes wrong but from what some say, their hubby isn't any help anyway!!!:rotfl:

Bopsmom---I didn't get to AK. Hope you had a fun day. What did you have good at LeCeiller? Sorry about the screw up...what's the saying about the best plans of mice and men?

Here's Marie's other suggestions:
Tkers: Six Shooters Club.... still shootin threads down left and right! or add the Never met a thread we couldn't make dead
Lean, Mean, Thread Killing Machines.
Tkers: Still killin threads but we haven't been deep sixed yet!

Someone's going to have to do it. I'm leaving in a couple of hours.

I like Lean, Mean, Thread Killing Machines...but if you want 6 in it, I'll vote for TKers: Our sixth senses still at work or maybe drop the still to make it shorter.

Kitty---do you have a list of us? I'll see if I have one and pm you. Sorry I won't be here. Don't forget to put the link back to here. I went back but didn't have the one to the 3rd thread.

Good afternoon everyone...how are we all doing with holiday prep? I have my ham out defrosting and just have to pick up some fruit to munch on. Got my nice dress out to wear to church tomorrow. Just waiting to hear from my sister to find out when she'll be arriving tomorrow morning. Got my gifts wrapped too!

In terms of presents, I never really got anything expensive either. But then again, there wasn't as much technology as now. I mostly got dolls and clothes, but I wasn't into name brands so even my clothes, while nice, weren't pricey.

I will quantify that since my birthday is close to Christmas, my 17th birthday my parents got me a car for a birthday/holiday present. I only realized later it was more a present for them...I didn't have to borrow the car and I could be sent out on errands all the time. Also, I was heading to college and there was no way they were going to drive me back and forth to school all the time.

M&N...thanks darling for the list of TKers! Don't you fret about getting everything taken care of....the list is the hardest part! Once its time to set up a new thread (whatever it will be called) I'll just have to PM everyone to link us to our new home.

Marie...I totally want to visit DL sometime! Its still Disney, right? One of these days when I'm in the Phils, I'm going to go to HOng Kong Disney. Its only a two hour flight. And get this---the park is the last stop on the train from the city. How convenient. Ah, if only Santa brings me a winning lottery ticket....

And also, its part of a good relationship to be able to spend time apart and to enjoy it! While I love my BF, there are times that I love him more from afar! Especially when I'm at the mall, he could not be farther away from me...I need my honey to let me shop and meet me for dinner somewhere afterward.

Saw a thread about whether you put expensive gifts in the stockings. You have kids...what do you put in their stockings?

Stocking contents for the kids this year (pretty standard actually):
3 pack of undies
3 pack of socks
Toothbrush
Toothpaste
Comb
Travel size Shampoo/Conditioner
Deoderant
Mini Chocolate Santa
Mini Reeses Christmas Tree (DS) or York Peppermint Snowflake (DD)
$10 iTunes card
1 DVD
Box of cookies (shortbread for DS, Mint Milanos for DD)

As far as presents, they each get 3 (2 from me and 1 from Santa). This year's gifts are:

DS--Beatles Rock Band
Beatles Monopoly

DD--Pampered Chef baking stuff (cookie sheets, cookie press, 2 cookie cookbooks)
NY Yankees Derek Jeter jersey

And Santa got them each a new digital camera--NOT big fancy expensive ones, these are about 7 or 8 megapixels, and cost about $80 each.

That's it. Obviously they get stuff my my parents and their aunts and uncles, and from their father's family, but they don't get a ton of stuff from me. It's the way I've always done it. I figure the Wise Men brought 3 gifts for the baby Jesus, so if 3 was enough for Him, it's enough for my kids!

Evening. As for a tker meet, I am heading to WDW in 2011. And without my kids/DH. We are also doing a cruise next year. Whatever you all come up with, let me know plenty ahead of time so I can convince DH that this is a necessity for me to go. :rolleyes1
We'll give you a ton of reasons why it is necessary. Although I think family could come along too. I know my family might not let me go alone. :laughing:Hey, you could bring your kids and I'll bring mine and they could keep each other busy. My kids are 11 & 7.

Maybe TKers: 6 feet under and trying to save threads?
I'm afraid with the 6 pack, we'll attract trailer trash! :lmao: Or maybe they'll think we're trailer trash! :lmao: You know those DIS snobs! ;) I'm teasing here, just so you are clear. There's another thread saying to get rid of cliques or put us in a separate place.
Hey...I resemble that remark. :lmao:
I hate reading how these Dis snobs think they should put clique threads someplace else. Don't they know...these threads are probably the nicest threads on the Dis. Sheesh!

Gee, the words just thrown around this thread all willy nilly. Cheap guests, trailer trash......now I see why everyone complains about these "clique" threads. You'd think even though there are years that we stay at the Super (minus) 8 hotel (can't afford an actual Super 8), we could have a little understanding. We all squeeze into one room too. Is it ok that I didn't actually buy my mugs from Disney but from Ebay? :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Ok, I gotta stop this. DH is looking at me like I'm insane.
:rotfl2:If your DH is looking at you like that you have offially become one of us. :thumbsup2 Congrats!

I almost forgot to ask D&D something. Did you have the DIS close down last night so I would have to go to bed and not get my post count up? I was posting when all of a sudden a message appears that it was closing down for 30 min. Not very friendly of them...so I just went to bed.

No worries. I was bummed that I couldn't leave you a message though. Kept saying that your mailbox wasn't set up. Oh, well...maybe the next time we come to TX to visit BIL/SIL we'll swing through your town. ;)

Hey! :wave2:

Hope little H is feeling better. I forgot about your allergy.

Wendy, I love your thinking about three presents like the Three Wise men. There's a special on the History channel about the origins of Christmas that I like to watch, and they explain that at the time, there were different expectations of the Messiah--some thought he would be a priest, a prophet, or a king. The Wise Men's gifts reflected that: gold for a king, frankincense for a priest, and myrrh for a prophet.

I also love how DS is so into the Beatles. You taught that boy well. And DD's love of cooking is so fantastic, I'm so impressed with her knowing what she loves so young.

Where is this talk about putting the cliques elsewhere?! Why are there haters out there? Why can't they just celebrate the friendships that we've made? Why is everything such a big deal?

Ooh, rant over.

We don't do stockings on Christmas. That's saved for St. Nick day Dec. 6th. My kids usually get...
apple
orange
small candies
1 DVD/movie for both
some small toys (yo-yo, cards, etc.)

Santa brings...
Ninetendo DS games
Playmobile sets
Legos
PJs
board games
An ATM bank (this should be fun as it will teach deposits and withdrawals)
Star Wars stuff

I was dumb enough to post on one of those threads about "What kids get for Christmas" one year and was ripped to shreads for making a comment that kids get too much stuff/too expensive stuff now-a-days. :sad2: Stay far away from these types of threads.

Here's Marie's other suggestions:
Tkers: Six Shooters Club.... still shootin threads down left and right! or add the Never met a thread we couldn't make dead
Lean, Mean, Thread Killing Machines.

DD's suggestion was TKr's-Killin'Threads and Killin' Time :rotfl:
