TKers Take the Fifth!

Yeah for JCP. My dad worked for them part time in HS an then until he could not longer walk. Over 41 yrs full time. They were very nice to him when he had cancer the last time. Gave him work he could do--actually made up a position for him. I don't think much of the store now---HA! They don't have much in my size that I like but that's not just Penney's!

I can't even remember the last time I've gone shopping for myself. I walked past the jr's section (where I got my clothes from not too long ago) today and glanced at the clothes. It is all clothes that my 13 year old would wear. Super tight jeans and shirts. No way, no how. And I need to go shopping. My favorite pair of jeans have holes in them where they should not have holes at my age. :rotfl:

That was very nice of JCP. Many companies would have done nothing to help. And many more would do even less nowadays. So sad.

Yeah---that was 20 years ago next April. Not everyone was kind. I think his reoccurrence of cancer was due to stress from work but not my call.

I wear plus sizes and the styles are awful. Even one of my favorite brands have pretty terrible things out now. Cannot blame that on the particular store. But the outfit I did like had all short lengths in plus sizes. I'm only 5'4" and they are too short for me. There are not a lot of shorter and fatter than me women running around!

Good morning...Pikester-I thought waking up the thread was your job! Now I have to do both! ;)
Not raining here...I'm too far west, thankfully. My cousin in VA said they had 10 in since Tue.

Sorry M&N, I've been slacking!

Found an item that I wanted to get DS8 for Christmas over at Kmart this morning. :woohoo: Now I just have to return the other item that he said he wanted a month ago but now is no longer interested in. :confused: Of course the new item was more expensive then the other item. :sad2: Oh well.

Decided to stop in for a quick check before I head out for my walk. I was doing a jog/walk but the jog part has been hurting my knee so it's back to just walking for me.

Good Morning!

Pikester - Two weeks from now baby!!! Two weeks!!!! You lucky girl! Hope your family is feeling better.

Sukie - Hope your computer feels better soon.

JOCA - My kids seem to sprout up overnight too. Especially DS11 who needs size 12 for length but not for waist. Always have to take them in. Don't even get me started on buying clothes for adult women. What happened at the stores???? Its like the Jr section is not for us and the misses section is not either. :rolleyes: Frustrating. Kohls does have 30% off this weekend so maybe I can get something this time.

LITC - Glad Walter is gaining weight. You must continue to post pics. :lovestruc

M&N - Visited that thread - Yikes!!! What are people thinking??? I love the PIs out there who don't let ya forget - ANYTHING. :laughing:

Disney continues to do well. Today she was up on her back legs trying to steal some bread off the counter. Wouldn't believe this is the same dog from last weekend.

Yeah for Disney. Tell him not to show off too much. He needs to conserve his strength...not a puppy any more!

Keep that walking going...build up those muscles...it's getting closer to that magical trip!

Went to dr...he cleaned out ear. I did have some stuff on the side of the ear drum. I also have a slight inner ear infection so had me get Sudafed. Had to show drivers license and sign something!

It was raining just a little here...still watching the weather channel. Why would people build that close to the ocean like those places in Nags Head? It's not like they never get those storms. It's hard to feel sorry for them. Or maybe I'm just too hard-hearted?

Good evening!

Had a good time with DH and taking his parents out to dinner. I had a salad from the salad bar, Filet Mignon, baked potato with butter and summer squash/zucchini. For dessert I had mud pie. So YUMMY!

I've been trying to watch what I eat and exercise so that I can worry less about what I eat during our trip in 2 weeks. Yup, you heard me. 2 weeks!:woohoo:

DH was suppose to be going on a bike ride Sunday in the same area that Toysrus is located and returning an item for me. Now he tells me that he decided not to go and he completely forgot about telling me that he would return said item. MEN!:mad:

Hope all the East Coast TKers are doing well through the storms. Yikes!!! Stay safe and dry!

Kids are invited to a b-day party this afternoon so DH and I will have a little time to have a nice restaurant lunch while we wait for the party to end. :cool1:

1 month and 2 days until the trip!!!:banana::banana: Got our Disney documents in the mail yesterday. Getting so excited.

Has anyone ever eaten at Cape May? I made and ADR for that place and was wondering how it was.

D&D, the wind huffed and puffed but it did not blow my house down. Not for lack of effort though! I lost several limbs and branches from my trees though.

I had breakfast at the Cape May Cafe. It was a buffet and I remember it being pretty good.

Quiet day around here. The kids are with the ex, and i've taken 2 naps so far--about 2 hours each! Hope I sleep tonite...

No wind here; just lots of rain.

Thought about taking the kids to see A Christmas Carol but didn't feel like going out in the cold, damp day.

I was suppose to be doing lots of chores but with it being so dreary out I've just been sitting against the heating pad and reading a book. I can do all that other stuff tomorrow. :goodvibes

I'm just feeling really lazy today too. Guess it's the weather. The kids should be home any minute now, which means the peace and quiet is nearly over. Bummer.

I was just online looking up recipes for sweet potatoes. It looks like my favorite uncle and his GF are going to join us for Thanksgiving, so with 2 extra people, I decided to do sweet potatoes AND mashed potatoes. My mom usually just makes the Mrs. Pauls frozen ones but I think those are gross. She offered to make some from scratch, but basically the same thing--cut up potatoes, butter, brown sugar and cinnamon. I prefer the mashed sweet potato casserole type, NOT with marshmallows (barf!), but with the streusel topping. My kids love those too. I found a really easy recipe for it, and asked Mom which one she wants. So we'll see.

The rest of my menu is strictly traditional:
Turkey with stuffing (which I am making from scratch--no stuffing mix for me!)
Cranberry sauce (also made from scratch!)
Mashed potatoes
Peas or green beans
Rolls
Apple pie with vanilla ice cream

For "appetizers" I may just put out little dishes of carrots, celery and olives like my Grandma used to do. Or I might get shrimp. But then that gets to be alot of protein for my dad. Hmmmmmmm...

Well, I've just spent the better part of an hour over at All Ears looking at Participating Quick Service Restaurants for my upcoming trip. We decided to do the QS Dining Plan this time around so I've been studying menus. I was able to print off all the QS Restaurants and I've hi-lited the best sounding ones.

Only 2 weeks until we leave! :woohoo:

Morning all:

Hope all you east coasters survived the storm...we lucked out and it passed south...in fact our weather has been glorious for the past week...sunny & warm. It's weird...we are having better weather in Nov than we did in July!!

Yum...sounds wonderful.

Pike ~ So have you made any decision on where to eat? Can't believe it almost a year since our trip.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday.

It's nearly 70 here today, and sunny. Perfect day! Nice change from 4 solid days of rain.

It's 61 here today with a little bit of sunshine. I went for a nice walk and enjoyed the smell of fresh air.

Making sherpard's pie for supper tonight. The making it takes a while but the after is so yummy!

Good evening ladies! It has been a nice quiet lazy Sunday afternoon. I think ya'll must have sent the rain our way. Oh well, that's okay. I'm inside, nice and dry. Haven't been around the DIS much. My mind has been rather preoccupied with going through all the travel info I have gathered, sorting it and finalizing plans for our trip. 16 days for us! How's your plans going Pikester? M&N? D&D? Bopsmom?

whgrn, hope your knee is getting better. I hope your DS will straighten up after his incarceration period! :laughing: So glad you got your puppy back home where he belongs! Loved the picture. Glad your house did not blow down!
I do not like marshmellows on sweet potatoes either! You need to post your recipe cause it sure sounds good. Of course, your whole menu sounds great. I am such a moron! 47 years old and have never cooked a turkey for Thanksgiving! We head to DH's brother's house. They have had it catered for several years which was nice but the food was yucky. This year we have gone back to the pot luck method. My assignment in broccoli,rice & cheese casserole and a dessert. All this talk is making me hungry! (Well, it is just about time to go start our supper.)

M&N, I am right there with you and the memory loss and doing stupid things. My aunt, who is almost 70, made me laugh really good several days ago. I had said that I thought at some point I should be getting old enough to stop doing stupid things. She laughed rather maniacally and hysterically and said "Oh no. You never get too old to still do stupid things!".
I hope your ear is feeling better. That would certainly hurt on the plane!
Wow! 41 years at JCP is a long time! Nice to hear they treated your dad well after all that time put in for them.

Shmu, I am so sorry that your DD has had to deal with such a pervert. Unfortunately, they seem to be all over. Thank heavens she came to you and told you about it. It sounds as though your family has done well at restraining themselves as far as not going after the guy. I am afraid if that ever happens when my DD gets older her dad and DS will probably be the ones to end up in jail. Anyway, I will keep your DD in my prayers. No young lady should ever have to be subjected to that.

BKMETV, I hope your patients have improved and that you have been able to keep yourself healthy.

D&D, I am so glad Disney is doing better. Yay that DH made it though the passing out of the pink slips! What a nice sale on the halloween costumes!

LivinInTheCastle, it sounds like Walter is doing well. He will probably grow out of that picky thing. I think my kids ate better when they were little than they do now!

Pikester, that is so nice that your DD asked about your plans to meet up with us TKers. I feel honored! My plans are still to be at Epcot on the 5th too so hopefully we can manage to get together for a visit. I PMed you, M&N and D&D my cell phone number. I hope you have everyone on the mend and ready for Disney!
My DS has been pulling the change his mind trick on his Christmas list too. Well, actually more like trying to add to it. He seemed honestly shocked when I told him NO, that I was through shopping and trying to not spend any more money since we have the trip coming up. Can anyone say "spoiled rotten"? But I love him anyway! DD has really been the surprising one. She picked out one expensive gift and has stuck to it. Of course, she will be the one trying to spend all my hard earned gift cards when we get to WDW! :rotfl:
Did you have good luck planning your meals? I have had ours picked out for some time now. DS informed me today that he did want to venture out and try some of the foreign menu items. I looked again and decided I am staying with my plan. I don't think I would like some of the unusual food and DD sure would not so am gonna stick with playing it safe!
I have never tried Shepherd's pie. Is that from another country? Maybe I could try that on DS!

JOCAmom, my DD has been going through the same growth spurt as your DD! Guess we don't notice them growing so much during summer when they are wearing shorts. All my DD's pants turned to capris by the end of summer! :lmao: She is taller now but no bigger around. (wish I had that problem!)

Well, my tummy is starting to growl so I guess I should go fix supper so we don't end up eating at 10 o'clock like we did last night!

My knee is doing really well todayl Almost no pain. I went to church and grocery shopping and was still able to get on the rack at 102 degrees! can't wait to see how PT goes tomorrow.

I am afraid my doggie may have diabetes. He gained nearly 2 pounds in the 2 weeks he was gone, he's eating like crazy and drinking like a fish, which obviously makes him pee constantly. He's also very sluggish and less playful than usual. I am calling the vet tomorrow. No idea how I'm gonna get him there, since I can't drive yet, but I'll figure it out, even if I have to take him in a taxi! I'm really worried about the little guy. I can't imagine having to give him insulin shots every day. The kids have been really good about not feeding him any treats since he got home--I think they are worried too.

DS was a real pain tonite. So I sent him to bed early and gave him an early bedtime for the entire week (by 30 minutes). He was NOT pleased. It won't help change his behavior, but at least he'll be out of my hair that much sooner...:lmao:

Sweet Potato Recipe

* 14 cups (1-inch) cubed peeled sweet potato (about 5 pounds)
* 1/2 cup half-and-half
* 1/2 cup maple syrup
* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
* 3/4 teaspoon salt
* 1 large egg, lightly beaten
* Cooking spray
* 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
* 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
* 1/4 cup chilled butter, cut into small pieces
* 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Preparation

Preheat oven to 375°.

Place potato in a Dutch oven, and cover with water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer 12 minutes or until tender. Drain.

Combine the half-and-half and next 4 ingredients (half-and-half through egg) in a large bowl, stirring with a whisk. Add potato to egg mixture; beat with a mixer at medium speed until smooth. Spoon potato mixture into a 13 x 9-inch baking dish coated with cooking spray.

Combine flour and sugar in a food processor; pulse to combine. Add chilled butter; pulse until mixture resembles coarse meal. Stir in pecans; sprinkle over potato mixture.

Cover and bake at 375° for 15 minutes. Uncover and bake an additional 25 minutes or until the topping is browned and the potatoes are thoroughly heated.

Evening. The weather was beautiful here too. I love it. The kids are enjoying the new house. And they really love the big yard that we have now. We have most everything unpacked and we have started to put our pictures up. We have one entire wall just dedicated to Disney.

whgrn, Taylor Swift is from Reading, PA and that is only about 40 minutes from us. And thank you for posting that recipe. I'm cooking my first T-day dinner this year and am looking for all the help I can get.

marie, nice to see you again. My daughter has the same problem with pants fitting in the waist too. I have to buy all her pants with the adjustable waistband or else I'll be spending all my free time sewing them. No thank you. What restaurants are you planning on while in Disney?

Ev, I hope everyone is getting better in your house.

Pikester, you must be getting so excited about your trip. I wish I were going too.
