Hi Racetrack! Sorry to hear DH had to go back to Kentucky. What a great way to spend the day together though. I pray that he has a safe journey back to work and comes back very very soon.

Big Brother is on! I haven't really liked anyone this time around, but it has been interesting....

We saw about the flooding too but I'm not sure how close Curt is to Louisville. The only thing that is going for us with this job right now is that his immediate boss is working on convincing the big boss to let them work as many hours as they can just so they can get home. Everyone is willing to put in 14 or more hours a day just to get home.

I have never watched Big Brother. It's a reality show where they film inside a house with a bunch of people, right? I might have to check it out because that's exactly the type of shows we watch now.

Yes, Big Brother is where they're locked in the house and taped at all hours. Its definitely NOT quality television. It actually shows the worst, devious, dirtiest tactics in people. They are playing for $500,000! Psychologically, its fascinating. Its kinda at its most basic, people really have very few morals.

I don't watch any quality television unless you count the kids shows that are on Nick during the school year. :rotfl2: Dora teaches me Spanish. :rolleyes1 :lmao: And with people who have no morals. Woohoo! That is bound to make me feel better about most of my family whom (who?) have no morals at all. :lmao::lmao: I think I have found myself a new show to watch.

woo-hoo! Welcome to the darkside Racetrack! :thumbsup2 Its a big commitment, though. I think its on three times a week. I look at it as therapy. More opportunities to feel better about ourselves!

Sorry, Curt called and I just can't type and talk on the phone at the same time. :lmao:

Mmmm, 3 times a week? I just may be able to get away from Nick and the Disney channel more than one time a week? Even without the promise of people without morals, that may be enough to convince me to watch.

Don't apologize to me when you're hubby is calling! :thumbsup2

Have you seen the story about the drunk/high Mom who drove on the wrong side of the road and killed 8 people? I was just watching the story and it turns out she was coming from a campground in my area. That crazy bi*** was driving on MY roads, endangering people that I probably know. That drives me crazy! Imagine getting behind the wheel high and drunk with your own children and other people's children in the car! I'm so angry at her and feel so sorry for those she hurt with her stupidity.

Grr....I need some more Big Brother. At least those stupid people are contained.

I think I'm outta here. Still have to fold laundry, I've successfully ignored it so far, but if I want to wear clean clothes anytime soon, I guess I better get to it before my cat decides it'll be a great place to sleep tonight.

Night Racer! talk to you soon! Don't watch too much Nick!

I missed HK! I didn't remember it was on early. I did watch Big Brother rather than the More to Love. Then on the Food Channel was a show called Chopped. They had to cook with things I never heard of! The guy who never went to culinary school won. It is hard to find something on to watch.

I saw that news too. What a totally f-up thing to do. You know, you want to mess up your own life....fine. Do it when you won't put others in danger. Drink to your heart's content in your own house. Stay off the damn roads where you will most likely injure/kill some innocent person.

I need to head to bed too. It's August and trying to get back to school hours slowly.

Night MK! Remind me when the new Big Brother episode is on so I can watch it. :goodvibes

Just a quick fly by to say hello...sent my cousin off for a few days of touring so I'm now facing laundry etc. as I try and catch up. Hope everyone is having a good week.

Good morning ladies! I hope everyone has a wonderful day in store!

M&N, I figured it was something like that.. that you had never heard of dove hunting. I just wanted to explain the type of hunting my boys did versus some who hunt only for a trophy. (Though I guess there wouldn't be much of a trophy in hunting dove.) I guess either way they would be likely to upset pet lovers. Good to see that mine are not the only ones around here who like to hunt. Anyway, I imagine there is probably a sport for just about every animal there is out there. And a good deal of them are thought up by some of the guys right here in Texas.
You mention your dad fishing. We do that too although not like some people. Down in Louisiana they have a fishing technique called noodling. Have you ever heard of that one? They go out in a boat, dive into the lake and use their arm to lure these huge catfish to swallow their arm. Someone sent me a youtube video where they were pulling up some that weighed around 40 pounds! No way would I want that latching onto my arm! Catfish actually have teeth! Those guys were really desperate for a hobby.

whgrn, sounds like another great day. I bet you will be really sad to leave but then again it is always good to get home.

MagiKitty, I have never perfected any sort of curve when bowling. I can throw em nice and straight. It's the delivery that gives me fits. My bender is usually broke! Usually about half way through I finally loosen up and get into a good form. Good for trouncing your friend!
DH and DS hunt all season long and usually end up with about 40 dove. When he cooks them he fries some whole and some just the breasts. He reserves the juices to make gravy. He then uses some of the gummy flour and fries up "cracklings" which you eat covered in the cream gravy. We usually have enough to feed our son in law and DH's brother too. I love not having to cook Thanksgiving dinner but man what a mess he can make when he cooks! He uses twice as many bowls as I would and the kitchen is usually covered with flour everywhere!
When we first married DH was seriously into deer hunting and elk hunting. We went to Colorado annually every year with a huge group of people. We didn't have much money so when he would get an elk we would process the deer ourselves and live off of the elk meat all year. Man was that a lot of work! That is back when we camped so much. I haven't missed the camping or having to eat all that elk meat. It was okay but I prefer beef or really most anything that I don't have to take part in butchering. I think I might pass on rattlesnake though.

racetrack18kb, that is really neat that your family likes bowling that much. There must be more than one bowling alley in Corpus because the one we go to is really old with worn out lanes. It certainly wouldn't be a good place to hold national tournaments. I used to love to watch the bowling on tv but like most things last I heard they are now only aired on cable. Walter Ray Jr was always my favorite.

Good morning ladies! Really humid and overcast here...glad I got my laundry out yesterday. Woudln't survive today I think.

Marie, that's really interesting about the doves. It never occurred to me that there are wild doves out there. We have pigeons in my back yard---I don't know how they got here, wayward sons of NYC? And I know my cats would love to get some of those.

I always admire those who make their own gravy. I certainly cannot do it. I've tried several times, and it has been a disaster every single time. Gravy from a jar over here in my house.

I was on Entertainment Tonight last night! Well at least the back of my head was. I saw them interviewing Regis that afternoon.

I feel so old when I'm out driving and I'm actually nervous. Back when I was young and stupid, I felt practically invincible behind the wheel. I now know that its not necessarily me on the road, its the sharing of the road with others. Everyone is talking about that drunken intoxicated lady on the road. I just can't beleive the stupidity of people some days.

Pikester, I totally thought of your boys yesterday. A designer named Marc Ecko makes these limited edition Star Wars inspired clothing line. They finally went on clearance! I ordered a Yoda and a Storm Trooper hoodie 75% off! Ok, I'm totally a Star Wars geek and proud of it!

Ok, sorry to be a Debbie Downer. Let's have a good day everyone!

OMG!!! I am so adding that somewhere else. :rotfl2:

Have a nice night. My warning expired yesterday. Maybe I'll go surf the other threads tonight. :rotfl2: :rolleyes1

What did you do now????:rotfl2::confused3

Good morning friends! I'm back! I haven't had a chance to catch up on all that I missed....

I had to sign a non-disclosure agreement re: Millionaire. But I think that a lot of you can guess that since I'm Dis-ing from NY and not WDW, you can pretty much guess what happened....

Wednesday afternoon, despite the monsoon-like weather, a towncar showed up at my house. I felt like a rock star! The driver came with the umbrella and escorted me to the car and then got my luggage. Even with the weather, we made good time to the Upper West Side and the Lucerne Hotel.

The Lucerne is a very-boutiquey place in a great avenue off of Amsterdam Avenue. Upon check in, I was told that I was reserved for two nights--which was great! I thought that I had one night on Millionaire's tab, and the second night I'd stay at my sister's across town. But two nights for free was awesome! I was put in a deluxe double corner room on the top floor. Awesome! Even with the rain I could see the Hudson from my window.

I had some time to play before my sister and friend arrived. I spent time playing with the television and reading my trivia books. My sister came after work, and we braved the rain, wind, lightning, and thunder to find a good restaurant nearby.

We found a great Mexican place and my friend who came up from Maryland met us there. They wouldn't allow me to have a sip of their Margaritas! How cruel! We had a great dinner and by the time we were done, the rain had stopped. On the way back to the hotel, we stopped by a Bodega for some more drinks, as we waited for my nephew to show up.

My nephew. His life sucks. He had left Atlanta at 10:30 that morning, and was stuck in Fort Lauterdale for the rest of the day. He finally departed for LaGuardia at 9 pm, and got to the hotel about 1am. I was fast asleep at this time, but glad to see him. I had a big day in a few hours.

Okay, I have missed alot!!! Wow you are going to be on Millionare? August 10, is that the afternoon show? Or is it a night showing?

Hi All, well I see I really do need to keep up here, missed so much. I just skimmed the last few pages. We have world travelers, soon to be world travlers and Curt is in KT? That's pretty far.
Vacation was really nice and needed. The problem with going at the time of year we go, is then you come back and thats it! You have the rest of July and August to deal with. In my perfect world I would do another week in August.
Not much going, went yesterday to get gym uniforms for DS from new school. Yep he is going back to Catholic School. He had a horrible year last year and hated his 'new' school, so in June he shadowed and we decided to switch. So looking forward to tuition payments again:rolleyes1. He was so miserable hopefully it will be worth it.

Hi Disney54us! How ya been?

Yes, it was quite an exciting week for me. On a whim, I tried the phone auditions for Millionaire and was chosen (really crazy!). They sent a car service for me and set up for two nights in the city. I taped a show that will be aired on August 10th. Its the 10th Anniversary nighttime Regis edition. It'll be on 8pm EST. You'll see me and my big head briefly. (I signed a confidentiality agreement).

I totally get the vacation feeling. You're so excited to go and when you get back, you're like "now what?".

Sorry about tuition. But teen years and high school are tough enough. Bravo to DS for making a decision that will make him be more comfortable and help him enjoy. I will disclose that I was a Catholic school girl myself until 8th grade---and I ended up on Millionaire!

How exciting!!!!! I am going to set my tvo, since I will forget if I don't do it now. Can't wait to 'see' you. Surprised that hair people who work in studios don't know how to handle different hair types:confused3 What is up with that?
He is going into 6th which in Catholic School is considered middle school, so he is in those tween years (gosh how did that happen?). He loved his old school and the Bishop closed it and a bunch of others, so he tried the public school here. His old school was one town over different district so he was the only new kid entering 5th this past Fall. His friends from his old school had each other and since 90% of the kids went public there the district went out of there way to 'welcome' them and their families.
For all you Soapies.... The All My Children board someone posted that they are moving production to LA and the last taping will be Dec 10th. Don't know, haven't heard anything the poster said they were in the meeting when it was announced:confused3.
I see the dis moves as slow as ever, click and wait and wait and wait:confused3.

Howdy!
We wore one piece green suits in jr high, don't remember high school.
I don't mind hunting as long as you eat what you kill. I have quail and doves in my back yard. I won't eat quail because I think of "my" cute quail at home, I will eat Bambi though. ;)

So sad about the drunk, we had something similar a couple of weeks ago. :sad2:

whgrn sometimes the quickest way to feel better is to let it out.

Wednesday August 5 Inverness to Edinburgh

Had breakfast alone again, but I brought the paper so it wasn’t too awful. We boarded the coach, and someone was in my seat. Now, normally I wouldn’t have made a fuss, would have just taken the seats they were supposed to have. And to be honest, the company back there would have been better! But after yesterday’s experience at the back of the bus, I was in no hurry to subject myself to a full day of queasiness, so I stated my case, and the ladies moved to the right seat. I don’t think they were terribly happy about it, but I had to do it.

We headed to Blair Atholl. Along the way, Karen gave us a lesson on Mary, Queen of Scots. It was interesting because it was of course told from the Scottish perspective, and the book I had read about her was obviously from the English perspective, so the story was a bit different!

We stopped at Blair Castle. It was just beautiful! Sadly, photos were not allowed inside, so I will have to rely on my memory, such as it is. The front entry hall was decorated with 480 weapons--guns, swords, claymores, shields, etc. I certainly would not want to get in an argument with them! The rooms were decorated in mostly a Georgian style, but some of the furnishings were much older. All very ornate, of course, and HUGE! The ballroom was bigger than my entire house! I loved all the old family portraits all through the place.

We stopped on the way out of the castle to get photos of a couple of Hieland Coos. (Highland Cows). They are so cute! From there we traveled a bit farther south to Pitlochry. It’s a very pretty town, with flower boxes everywhere. I had lunch with Brad and Linda, as we all had opted for a quick lunch of fish & chips before shopping. Our first stop was Heather Gems, where they make jewelry out of heather. They bunch it, compress it, and then polish it, and it turns out quite pretty. I got a nice cross for Laura, but didn’t find anything for me. I wandered up the street, looking in the woolen shops--still hoping to find a mohair coat. I did manage to get a highlighter at the bookstore for marking my map!

Back on the coach, I learned that I am having dinner with Brad and Linda tonite. Apparently when Karen was asking about dinner reservations, they “adopted” me! That suits me very well, as I enjoyed their company.

On the drive down to Edinburgh, Karen was telling us about taxes and the cost of living here. The taxes are amazingly high! Someone making just over 40,000 pounds per year would pay 40% income tax! YIKES! :scared1: Add in all the other crazy taxes, which includes a TV tax of about 115 pounds per year, and the 15% VAT on everything you buy, and it’s a wonder anyone can afford to live here! A 3 bedroom attached house with one bath, living room, and eat-in kitchen goes for about 70,000 pounds. If you have land, that jumps to at least 200,000 pounds. A small car sells for about 7 or 8000 pounds. And I’ve already seen the prices for food, gas, and clothing, which are very high.

Karen also passed out our group photos, which were taken the first night at Cameron House. I had the great idea:idea: to have her go through the picture with me and tell me everyone’s name (since I am just terrible with names!), so now I can study the picture and know who is who (for the last 2 days, anyway!)

We passed by the Forth Bridge, which we rode over on the train last year, and then into Edinburgh. We arrived at the Balmoral, and I picked up my smaller suitcase from storage. My room, which is clear on the far side of the hotel, is MUCH smaller than last time. There is exactly ONE outlet in the entire room, and it is nowhere near the desk where I would use my computer. Swell.:confused3

I had decided to wear my kilt tonite for dinner, since Friday night we will go right from the farewell dinner to Tatoo, and I would prefer long pants for that. So I ironed the kilt and sash while waiting for my larger bag to arrive. I went down and found that I was not only dining with Brad and Linda, but also with Peg and Pete, and Alice Ann and Dick too! :yay:Once again, the company was great, and I enjoyed myself very much. I had a Mussels and Potato soup that was very nice, lamb with mashed potatoes (yummy) and strawberries with vanilla ice cream. I couldn’t finish it all, of course, and tonite at least I don’t feel uncomfortably stuffed.

Hey Wendy---Time is running short. Hope the rest of the trip goes as good. I had to laugh at myself...I read this:I wandered up the street, looking in the woolen shops--still hoping to find a mohair coat. I did manage to get a highlighter at the bookstore for marking my map!
and read highlander at first! :rotfl:

Disney54us: Glad your ds was open and said he didn't like his school. It's hard enough to go through those years. Liking school is very important. How far is the new school? Will he have old friends there? Maybe he'll discover public school wasn't that bad after he experiences this year. My hairdresser's Catholic school told her to take her twins to public school because they could not give them the help they needed. She wasn't very happy about that but they did good this year. Her son, 7th grade, was glad for the move.
And you know Racer---always speaking her mind! ;)

DL55---Not Bambi! :scared1: Whenever we see a deer, we always said there's Bambi. I have tasted deer but did not like it.

Marie: My dad was raised in southeast VA. There are a lot of man made lakes. Plus they went deep sea fishing when they were living there. My uncle had a boat he hired out. He had more fishing tackle than some stores!

Hi All,

Interview today was 2.5 hrs. However, every time I think it went well it doesn't. So I am refraining from commenting. They did say they'll be in touch by the end of the week. We shall see. Hope this is it. I am sick of the unemployment game.

Disney54us - Best of luck to DS. I too am a catholic school gal - all 12 years. And today, I still choose to work in those schools. The pay is lousy, but the values are great. Luckily the church we belong to is more progressive and liberal in their thinking and not the die-hard consevative catholics of yesterday. No nuns w/ rulers running around. In fact, in all my 12 years of school never had a nun like that.

Kitty - All set to watch you on Mon. As I type this, DS7 is playing Millionaire (by himself) and acting out all the parts. He is so full of drama. He is so excited to see you on TV. :thumbsup2

Ooops! Timer went off and meatloaf is done. Gotta run! Talk to ya later!
Hi everyone! :wave2:
