Oh Shmu, that's so sad. I feel so bad for your friend. I can't imagine losing all those memories. I hope the drums and stuff dry out ok.

Maybe we could take up an ornament collection, and everyone send you ornaments for her. New or gently used. Good gussie I have so many I can never fit them all on my tree!

Sorry about this it breaks my heart to hear about your friend. :sad1::hug:

I've collected ornaments all my life. I would be devastated if I lost them. They are even part of my 'hurricane plan' along with DD's baby pictures: they mean that much to me.
(When we evac'd for Rita the only thing I thought about those days in the hotel waiting was that I was going to lose all my Christmas memories.)
When we came back, the First thing I did was to get better, stronger, storage for them. I figured if they meant that much to me I'd better do something more than cardboard boxes. Last year for Ike they were moved from the attic and into a steal storage facility that DH uses for his work-overboard maybe, but they were safe.

I would be glad to donate. What is your friend's style? I know we can't replace the memories but, maybe a few special ones will help her fill in.

That sounds SOOOOO cool!!!

I am happy to report that after returning to the gym and my proper eating habits last Monday, I am now back in goal range and all my clothes fit again. I had my first session with my new trainer yesterday and she really beat me up! I am a hurting puppy today--glad I am getting a massage later!

I feel ya" girl. I wish I had a massage in my future.:rotfl: I just need to get into better shape(round isn't cutting it anymore)

I'm so excited!:cheer2: My new treadmill desk was a success.:cheer2: I did 3miles this morning and worked on my computer at the same time. I really enjoyed it which is something I haven't done in a long time. I get bored watching TV and walking.
I have searched for a year to find one to fit my treadmill to no avail. Yesterday morning I woke up and just 'knew' how to make one-dreamed it up I guess. I went to home depot, bought the stuff. Twenty minutes later I had created a 'universal fit' desk that is level and only takes seconds to pop on and off.
Now I am working on a portable version. DD wants me to call the Pitchmen!!!:rotfl2:

Shmu, I have to agree with Bopsmom. Though I don't know you all very well, but everyone here has been so kind to me. I would not hesitate to pass on the kindness I found here to your friend. Please let me know what I can do to help.

Bopsmom, what is the laptop desk that you mentioned? Do you have pictures? We don't have a laptop yet (that's next on our list when we get settled in our new place) but anything that will got me off the desktop and working out, is a plus in my book.

Can't read any updates yet
Emergency......PRAY.....PRAY......PRAY
We are experiencing BAD flooding here in GA.
Many people killed.
One of my best friends house is flooding now. 26 years of stuff GONE.
Heading there now to help.
THanks TKERS
:grouphug:
Oh Shmu! Saw some footage of this on the news today and thought of you. We will pray for your friend. How horrible!

I found out something else we are doing in Orlando. My friends got us tickets for The Singing Christmas Trees by the First Baptist Church in Orlando. The singers are in 2 40 foot tree shaped stands. There are I think 200 in each tree. I saw the dvd from several years ago and it was wonderful. They didn't do it the year we were there for Christmas.
Now this sounds like fun! You will have to take tons of pics and share this.

I'd be happy to send some ornaments.
My collection is quite eclectic. No theme just always get an ornament that signafies something we did that year. This year I have 1 from my "family reunion" to Hershey Park and another from DC.
Congrats on getting back in goal range. You are such a trooper Whgrn!
Are you getting your massage at Wal-Mart too?

I have some concerns about flying this weekend. There's been a few warnings these last few days. This weekend is Rosh Hashana, and the terror threat over the summer was targeting synagogues and my local airport. I'm truly not afraid, but I'm sure the security check will be insane. I should just go to the airport naked...that would definitely be terrorizing! :lmao:
We will pray for your safety both in flight and at WDW this weekend. It really is scary how those monsters are still out there looking for ways to get us.
I bet if you showed up naked at the airport you'd get on the news. Or at least U-Tube. :lmao:

Get that copyright girlfriend!!!!! How incredible are you? :worship:Just thought it up and created something so cool. I bet you could sell a ton of those babies. Let me know when you're seeking investors. :thumbsup2 I want in on this deal.

I'm impressed...an inventor! Get a patent for that idea girl! Post a pic so we can see it. Great idea. I read while riding mom's bike. At the fitness center I can watch tv or listen to music.
I'm tired from channel surfing between 3 channels. I do have to confess that I did not go to the Phillies much...but knew mom would ask if I saw any of it.

Kitty---have you ever read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies? They were selling it at the book fair I helped with today. I thought of you. I'm n ot too sure I would enjoy it though. I found this about it: It’s difficult to tell if critics’ reactions to Pride and Prejudice and Zombies should be characterized as praise or astonishment. Some reviewers treated the book as a delightful gimmick. Others found that, beneath the surface, the book actually constituted an interesting way of looking at Austen’s novel. Zombies answer certain puzzling questions: Why were those troops stationed near Hertfordshire? Why did Charlotte Lucas actually marry Mr. Collins? (She had recently been bitten by zombies and wanted a husband who could be counted on to behead her—of course!) But critics also pointed out that this parody shows that Austen’s novel has remained so powerful over time that even the undead can’t spoil it.

Been having a real rough time w/ DS11 again. He got in some big trouble at school and things seem to be going downhill again. :headache:
Spent most of last night worrying about how to help or "fix" this boy. Woke up with this absolutely frightening feeling where I just couldn't seem to calm down. Feeling a little better today, but still can't shake the feeling that something worse is going to happen. :sad1:

Oh D&D...
7.gif
...that's so sad. It must be terribly frustrating to see such a young one blowing it. Is he picking the wrong friends or just deciding to make his own wrong choices?

Thank you all so much for your encouragement and faith in me. :goodvibes It actually felt good to make something that I have been wanting for a long time.

DM said I should patent it too and I started doing a little research today.
She lives just blocks from Rice University and they are one of the USPO's offical places and have people to help with the search. If I/or she needs to go it's at least close by. Mom is wicked with research- it must have been that Pentagon training she got in the military;) It would also give her a good hobby.

DH thinks it's stupid that someone probably has beaten me to it or I just copied something I saw online or shopping-:sad2:

I really hope you will all understand why I can't post pictures of this on an open board. It may all come to naught but, you never know. I see other patents but who knows? It never hurts to try.
If it doesn't pan out I guess I can make some cool Christmas gifts.:confused3:laughing:

Glad you are checking into it. Even if someone else has tried...who says you can't build a better mousetrap? :woohoo:

I'm with M&N on this one. Yours is probably much more user friendly than any other "copies" out there. :thumbsup2 You Go Girl!!! Tell your DH that we are proud of ya anyway!

D&D Sorry about DS. I hope things work out for you and your family.

Good night guys, I need to get to bed since I might get called in the am for work:confused3I haven't had too many jobs but, I still try to be ready just in case. :wave2:

Shmu, I think Wendy's idea is great and I would certainly be willing to donate an ornament to help get a new collection going for your friend. So sorry that she lost her sentimental stuff but so glad you are both okay. What part of Ga. are you in?

DL55, thanks for sharing more of your pics. Looks just like the places my mom sent photos of when she lived in Alaska. Looks cold too!

I agree, Kitty. DL55's photos reminded me of Northern Exposure. We used to love that show too. Crazy as it was!
Guess it is better to be sick before you leave than when you are on vacation! We usually wait until we get back, although we have had our share of getting puny while we are there. I am hoping that it was because DD got motion sickness when we used to take the train. Here's hoping none of us are sick for our upcoming trips! I do think showing up naked at the airport would certainly liven things up for your trip! Better yet....you could go just nearly naked and put your new thong panties to use!

Bopsmom, you rock! Pretty cool that you were able to put together just what you wanted!

D&DDisney, I am so sorry that DS is giving you such fits. Will send a  and put in a prayer for you. Being a parent is no easy chore sometimes. Here's hoping there is improvement on the horizon!

Are you getting your massage at Wal-Mart too?

:rotfl2: Nope, I got it right here at home! The massage therapist comes to my house!

I'm so sorry to hear this! I totally feel your pain--my DS makes sure of it! Have you seen a counselor for him? It's so hard when you see them being self-destructive. I hate that feeling of being powerless and of impending doom! to you!

Glad you are checking into it. Even if someone else has tried...who says you can't build a better mousetrap? :woohoo:

Yeah, go for it!!! I would LOVE to have one of those! Bet they'd sell like hotcakes!

We had some drama last night. Duke kept running outside like a crazy dog, barking and carrying on. I tried calling him in but he wouldn't come, and kept sniffing and pawing at something in the grass. DS and I went out to see and DS said "it's a rat!" Well, no, it's not, it was an opossum. I thought it was dead but DS swore he saw it moving ever so slightly. Anyway, we pulled Duke inside (where he continued to go crazy until we went to bed!), and I said I'd call animal control in the morning.

This morning, DS went out to check, and the opossum was gone! Guess he was "playing possum"!!!! He sure had me convinced!

Well my computer is definitely a no go...the charger will not work at all now. Since my warrantee has run out it will cost $100 for a new one or $167 for another year's worth of coverage...talked it over with DH and since computers are so cheap right now we've decided to bite the bullet and just get a new one. It's going to be an expensive week since DH is going on Sat to buy HIS new big screen TV. He go almost $700 in gift certificates so it won't be as bad as I thought.

Looked up the night tour in DC, looks great, liked the duck tour one as well that does the monuments and then cruises the Potomac...think the kids would like that one. MK glad to hear there is shopping near the Dulles museum, I think 2 days of air/space would be way too much for me!!

I have it sitting on my bedside table...in the to read pile. Sounds very weird but my neighbour...who lent it to me...claims it was a fun read.

Bopsmom What a great idea. I was going to suggest not showing any pictures until you know if you can get a patent. Now if only someone could come up with something more entertaining for ellipticals. :scratchin
whgrn Just noticed you have a dog named Duke. We had a dog named Duke also. When my dad asked if we wanted a dog (he was already named Duke) we thought of his aunt's dog (Duke) which was a chihuahua. Boy were we surprised to find out it was a boxer.:rotfl:
MagiKitty The temperatures were in the 60s during the cruise, Inland they got up to the 70s. The train was extra, most excursions are extra on cruises. Some more expensive cruise lines may include some excursions.

Just bopping in real quick... wanna try not to stay away so long.

They also have a lot of musical stuff. Drums, guitars, amps, etc..... The drums were floating. They moved it all upstairs. Hoping it dries out and is OK.

She is very upset too because she lost ALL of her Christmas decorations. Tree and everything. 26 years worth of mementos. I feel so bad for her. I just sat with her and held her while she cried. Going to try and organize some people around here to help gather her up some decorations for this Christmas. It won't be the same but it would be something.

Thanks again everyone. Your prayers are deeply appreciated. :grouphug:
Said a prayer for you guys and everyone down there!

Please tell your friends before they fire up anything electronic that has been wet to look into rinsing it out w/ distilled water. Sounds odd to add more wet, I know, but the silt and salt and dirt from flood waters can muck up the connections on electronics, then when you plug them in, they can short out. If they are properly cleaned BEFORE the first time electricity runs thru them, it can help. I don't know the exact process, but I've had the concept explained to me... have them check in w/ an electrician.

Please let me know if you start a collection... we have tons of Christmas ornaments, and I would like to donate something too! They're my memories, not hers, but anything that we can do to help!

Good morning ladies!

I have some concerns about flying this weekend. There's been a few warnings these last few days. I should just go to the airport naked...that would definitely be terrorizing! :lmao:

Safe travels! And, I know its not a funny subject, but your take on it made me lol. :rotfl2: I do think it would be much easier to fly if I were a nudist. I'd probably wind up w/ some extra elbow room on the plane too! :rotfl:

Ok, gotta get back to work, lunch is over. But, glad I got to stop by. I miss you guys!

Hey everyone. Just wanted to stop in and say hello to eveyone. :) I really miss being able to stop on more, but it is of course well worth it. Thinking of maybe venturing out this evening to take Walter to babies r us, they sent me some coupons (most of which I could not use) but one was for buy one pack of batteries get 2 free, and with all the stuff aound here that takes batteries, that could be worth it!

LITC---love that baby ticker...so cute. Now don't let any sick people get near little Walter and get germs all over him. Everyone will want to touch those little cheeks and play with those little fingers. Have a good outing...

Hey Lighttech---I think of you whenever I surf past QVC and think-I wonder if Lighttech did those floodlights on Jose! But I guess you didn't get to work with him. Good advice on the electricity thing.

EV--what kind of computer did you get? Just tell DH that you must have a good one to keep in touch with us TKers.

Need to share this site--- http://moreoldfortyfives.com/TakeMeBackToTheSixties.htm
I know some are too young to remember the 60's but this was good. I could not believe how cheap things were. It plays great music too.

Shmu: Please let us know about sending ornaments. It may sound silly but it would let us feel like we were doing a little bit to help out. Christmas really isn't that far away. Tell your friends we are praying...I'm sure the cleanup is horrible. I saw on the Weather Channel that an elem school may never open again...it was damaged so much. I'm sure that is happening to many homes too.

QUOTE]

I read on the elliptical. Never could really do it on the treadmill, so I hate the treadmill. But if I lose myself in a book, I can be on there for hours!

DS wanted a dog desperately. He wanted a rotweiler (NEVER gonna happen!) and was going to name him Duke. So when I finally decided it was time for a doggie, I went and fetched our little furball from Macon, GA, brought hiim home, and said "this is Duke". He's been trying ever since to live up to his name!:lmao:

OK need to ask my TKers for some advice. My cousin's twins will be a year old next month and they are having a party. What on earth does one get for a one year old????? They are boy/girl twins. I can do something on my own, or team up with Mom on a gift. Any suggestions???

Hey M&N I will be very careful with Walter, not that I could blame people for wanting to kiss such a cutie!! By the way, Walter had his first bath with the towel, and bath set you sent him today! It was his best bath yet to!

Hey Wendy- Dont know about doing something special for twins, but for my neice's first birthday, we got her savings bonds. They usually dont need much at that age.

Ok this is just wayyyyyy to weird.

My DEx has just sent me a friend request on Facebook!!!!!

What on earth is the protocol for such a thing? I do NOT want him to have access to all my friends, my blog, my photos, my comments, etc. I don't want him in my life any more than necessary!

So what do I tell him when he asks why I didn't accept it???
