Magikitty, the hot pink glasses are super cute. But all the credit goes to the wonderful lady who helped my daughter. She spent well over 30 minutes with my daughter helping her find the perfect 2 pairs. They had lots of styles not on display yet that she went and pulled out for her. My daughter seemed really comfortable about wearing the glasses after she was able to pick our her favorites.

Lighttech, nice to meet you too. So, your oldest guy is starting Kindergarten next year? My youngest just started this year. So many mixed emotions. Everything from WOW, my baby is starting school what am I going to do with all my free time :cool1: to WOW, my baby is starting school, what am I going to do with all me free time. :sad1:

LivingInTheCastle, nice to meet you too. Everyone here has been so nice even though I haven't officially killed a thread yet.

Well, even though my hour isn't up I can't seem to stop yawning so I am off to bed. Have a good night ladies!

OK guys, what do ya'll think.
I didn't want to plan it to the nth degree but, I think, except for a wonky Wednesday and DD desire to 1)see the parks at night and 2) not eat too early it seems to work. There is even some 'wiggle room' in case of weather problems.

Good morning Bopsmom and all the ladies!

Congrats Bopsmom on getting your ADRs taken care of...my goodness, is it only 90 days until Christmas???? Your plans look really good. Its going to be so wonderful to be surrounded by all the Disney magic at Christmas time!

Wendy, I am a sucker for mini-series. I have North and South on DVD. YOu want me to send it to you? I also have War and Rememberance and the Thorn Birds. I'm looking to get Lace. They don't make them anymore....

Oh goodness, its football season. There was nothing but football last night, and I'm sure all day today. For those of us not football fans, its time to get creative and find something else to do! FOrtunately, its supposed to be lovely today--going to try to get laundry out on the line.

let's have a wonderful day everyone!

MK-
Thanks about the plan- any suggestions for last day? Anyone!

We have never been to DTD so maybe a little last minute Xmas shopping?? I tried to factor in a lot of rest/free time because this is the first trip in 6 years that it is just DH, DD and myself. I want her to have her time to do what ever she wants. She has always been so good with younger cousins, my mom or others that join us. She forgoes things I know so, I want this trip to be for her.

I told her I'd pick the parks, and she'd pick the rides. She is growing up and wants more night time activities. The long mid-day breaks are for me and DH:rotfl:to rest.

I swear you and I should live together or at least have a heck of a Girls Movie Weekend sometime.-We love all the same movies from Jane Austen on down. I read all the John Jakes books and loved the miniseries. Do you like Alexandra Ripley? She wrote the sequel to Gone with the Wind and several other really good books. Her GWTW sequel was made into another miniseries.
Every time you mention a movie or book it's one of my favorites too. It would be so much fun.

I do have an outdoor theater set up for the pool. :rotfl: Colin Firth, Patrick Swayze projected to 12'x12' while you float in the pool with a cocktail: where can you go wrong?:confused3

I don't need to say anything about Patrick Swayze:sad1::love::sad1:-he's from just outside of Houston. He is very typical of the boys I grew up with (strong/soft) and deep down I still love cowboys.

I know I will be crashing soon. I just made waffles for DD sleep over buddies and they have now left for church-I'm contemplating bed.

Again, if anyone has suggestions-maybe an activity or something please let me know. There has already been a change- I picked Sanaa for the view of the Savannah but, DD and DH didn't like the curry on the menu:headache: I actually managed to get a Le Cellier lunch @ 3 Wednesday so we will eat then go the AK lodge to see the decoration then the park for EMH(ride EE in the dark.)

:scared1:90 days till Christmas! I still got more shopping to do!

:flower3:

Bopsmom, all I can recommend at holiday time is to take your time! We loved touring the different resorts and how they were decorated. We STILL talk about the Gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian--its life size! We liked the decor at Boardwalk and Polynesian too.

BF's fave is the Osbourne lights. We find a bench at the end of the street and just enjoy. I'm a huge Christmas carol singer, so while BF is watching the lights, more often than not, I'm singing and dancing with strangers!

We also loved the way EPCOT was done for the holidays. We stalked all the different versions of Santa Claus--it was so much fun and so interesting to hear about different traditions and customs from around the world.

Bf and I don't think we'll be doing Disney next year, but we are talking about maybe driving around the south/southwest. Maybe we'll find ourselves near you! Save me a cocktail by the pool!

I wanted to book Sanaa for this trip too, but I just couldn't figure out a way to fit it in! We haven't eaten at any of the places you have ressies, but we are trying Le Cellier this trip. In general, I'm pretty satisfied with Disney restaurants, so its all good to me!

I didn't read the sequel to GWTW, but I did see the mini-series (of course!). I'll have to add that to my reading list. Just got the new Dan Brown book and next Tuesday a new Diana Gabaldon comes out--I'm planning for that to be my plane book, but it may be a bit heavy to carry around.

Go back to bed---you deserve it! Dream of lovely Disney holidays....if the weather here wasn't so terrible, we'd definitely plan for a holiday trip, its just that I'm afraid of a snowstorm and being delayed or cancelled!

Bopsmom We usually just sleep in a little then actually have breakfast. Maybe a character breakfast. Looking at the other resort decorations is a good idea during the holidays.
Oh ..John Jakes. I've actually read his bicentennial series. Right after my grandpa and mom finished them. Those are well read books. :rotfl2:

Hi all:

Trying to catch up I'm a few days behind. Today is DH's birthday...can't believe I'm married to a 50 year old!!

MIL and her husband are coming for dinner...last night I had 8 adults, 5 kids for Beef Bourguignon. I'll be glad when it's all over.

Hello Kitty shorties, huh? Embarassingly enough, I love voluminous, enormous, puddling nightgowns. I love the full length, long sleeve styles. And if my nightgown has pockets---I'm in heaven! I love to curl into a ball and enjoy my huge nightgown...I secretly pretend that I'm a Victorian heroine, like Jane Eyre or Elizabeth Bennett....

It was a joke with my sister when we were younger every Christmas our Granny would send fancy lingerie from Scotland while our Nana always bought us a flannel nightie. In fact when she died (it was April) we found 2 nighties in her apartment...my sister & I knew they were our Christmas gifts.

Hello. I had to take my youngest daughter to the eye doctor today. She needs glasses. She picked out a pair of hot pink one and these funky brownish ones. Sorry to brag, but she just looked so cute in them.

We found out on Friday that DS will need glasses to do blackboard work...he's 9. I was blind as a bat when I got glasses at 5 so I figured one of mine would ended up needing them.

I watched Survivor. There's a real nasty guy on it...definitely need to get rid of him but the only person who saw him as a threat got kicked off because he turned everyone against her.

He's worse than Jonny Fairplay was!

Thanks for the kind words about my little man! :goodvibes
Can't say enough about him. I am just SO in love. I knew things were going to change, but it really isn't something that can be described until it happens.

The pictures are SO CUTE...give him another kiss from me!

I went to the gym, then went to WalMart for a $20 pedicure. I came home and played with the dog, and had lunch. Read all my email, talked to my sister, ironed 5 blouses, and went to my parents' house for dinner.

You can get pedicures at Walmart??? Wow!!

Loved watching the fireworks from Poly beach, we grabbed a hot choc from Capt Cook's and sat on the recliners...much better than fighting the crowds in the park.

Definitely spend some time in AKL, it is truly spectacular...one thing I regret was not taking a day and just hanging out at the hotel, there is so much to do!! If it wasn't for the fact that it's so far from MK it would be the perfect hotel to stay at.

Bopsmom, all I can recommend at holiday time is to take your time! We loved touring the different resorts and how they were decorated. We STILL talk about the Gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian--its life size! We liked the decor at Boardwalk and Polynesian too.

I'll add my two cents ~ Christmas decoration were good at AKL as well...I was a little disappointed in WL since there was so much hype. What is Sanaa, is it a new restaurant? The Gingerbread house was good and the Victorian Christmas decorations are nice. Osbourne Lights are a must see.

MK ~ Let me know what you think of Brown's new one...don't read Diana anymore she lost me around book 4 of her series.

Anyways better get moving...I'm being summoned to the pool...it's probably our last weekend of swimming.

Your schedule looks great, except for one thing. You need to plan a few minutes on Sat. 19th to see your TKer buddy - ME! We're going to be at WDW until Sun. 20th when we leave mid-morning. I'll PM you and we can work out some details. We're only doing 1 day at the parks cuz DH and I get in free for our b-day. :cool1: Just have to pay for kids. The rest of the time we're going to find some cost savings things to do at Disney. Maybe we could check out the Boardwalk on that Sat. :scratchin

Wendy, I am a sucker for mini-series. I have North and South on DVD. YOu want me to send it to you? I also have War and Rememberance and the Thorn Birds. I'm looking to get Lace. They don't make them anymore....

I absolutely  the Thron Birds. Best mini-series ever!!!! My copy was taped VHS from TV many years ago. Should break down and get the DVD I guess.
I hear ya on the football season alternatives. Sometimes I feel like I am the only human being who doesn't get into football. Luckily, today there is a NASCAR race to watch and I am busy getting up all my fall/Halloween decorations. My DH always says you can tell a teacher lives here. Maybe I over do it a little???

DL55 - Love those pics. Wow...you had a room w/ a balcony??? How cool is that?:thumbsup2

Ev - Happy b-day to DH! However, 50 is not old. Once I reached 40 I had a whole new meaning to who is OLD and who isn't :rotfl2:

Hi Lighttech! Nice to see ya here again.

Hi to Pikester, Whgrn, M&N, JOCAMom, LITC, and anyone else I missed. :wave2:

Trip update...

I did get some good airfare on Friday. Midwest Air was running a sale and we got some non-stops for $79. :yay: And...I get to choose our seats immediately so I can be assured we will all sit together. If it were just my DH and I, we'd have taken the chance on SW during cattle call. But you know me, I won't pay the extra for seat assignments. Always looking for the most economical vacation. :thumbsup2
Which brings me to our hotel. Right now I have ressies at POP w/ free dining. However, since it is the weekend, POPs prices go up. I am finding a better deal off-site at a suite hotel that gives free full breakfast and has 2 bedrooms and a full kitchen. Even w/ a car rental, we can still get it cheaper than POP. Hmmm... not sure if I want to cook to save some money? Plus, I am not much on making ADRs. I kinda like to eat spur of the moment at the restaurant that strikes me (us). We'll have to think about this more.

woo-hoo! Congrats D&D on getting great fares and being assured of sitting together. I've never flown Southwest, the closest they come to me is Albany...but I can't imagine having some families split up!

We stayed offsite for my May trip with my nieces, and honestly, its so much better for us. The only downside is paying for parking--at $12 bucks a day, it hurts! We had a full kitchen and sometimes we made a little breakfast, especially if my youngest niece (who rises with the dawn for some reason) couldn't hold out for the rest of us lazy bones. Mostly, I enjoyed having a fridge for late night drinks or snacking...and you cannot beat having so much more room so everyone doesn't get on each other's nerves!

Ev, I missed that is was DH's birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR. EV! Sounds like you're having a good one.

Hey ladies!

Just stopping by really quick to let you all know that I've decided to start a trip report. The link can be found in my siggie. Not sure how good I'm going to be at telling a story but I figure it'll be fun just to write it even if nobody stops by to check it out!

I still need to do a little update to it as I am past my 90 day ADR mark and I need to post what I got.

Have a good night!

Sounds great. We love the Boardwalk. It's great for people watching. I did change the Sat ADR to 7:25 so we should be alright.

I absolutely  the Thron Birds. Best mini-series ever!!!! My copy was taped VHS from TV many years ago. Should break down and get the DVD I guess.

I hear you about football. Our weekends are Saturday-college ball, Sundays-pro.

Love rooms with balconies. :thumbsup2 The pictures were great.

Ev - Happy b-day to DH! However, 50 is not old. Once I reached 40 I had a whole new meaning to who is OLD and who isn't :rotfl2:

I just want to squish his cheeks:angel:

You can get pedicures at Walmart??? Wow!!
:rotfl:

Loved watching the fireworks from Poly beach, we grabbed a hot choc from Capt Cook's and sat on the recliners...much better than fighting the crowds in the park.
That sounds like a plan. Last year at Christmas the crowds were kinda rude. One big old fat man pushed DD away from the railing in the rosegarden so he could take pictures-we'd been sitting there for 45 minutes before fireworks- *batting eyes* I persuaded him to be a gentleman and more somewhere else. Sheesh!:sad2:

Definitely spend some time in AKL, it is truly spectacular...one thing I regret was not taking a day and just hanging out at the hotel, there is so much to do!! If it wasn't for the fact that it's so far from MK it would be the perfect hotel to stay at.
We changed the Wed Lunch to a little earlier so we could get over there to see the resort then, go to AK for the evening.

I kinda felt the same way about WL last year. Love the Osbourne Lights -maybe not as much as MagicKitty:lmao: but in my own way.

MK ~ Let me know what you think of Brown's new one...don't read Diana anymore she lost me around book 4 of her series.

Anyways better get moving...I'm being summoned to the pool...it's probably our last weekend of swimming.

Great prices and non-stop:thumbsup2 We're flying SW but DH flys weekly so we just used his points and executive thingy so we are in the first group but we went ahead and paid for seat selection-I always liked SW because they didn't assign but this new policy blows!

Which brings me to our hotel. Right now I have ressies at POP w/ free dining. However, since it is the weekend, POPs prices go up. I love having a kitchen in the rooms. You can save a lot that way and it's not so bad-you know what food your getting. Is Pop offering DDP? The computer ADR system is fantastic (I say this since I got what I wanted) I hate hanging on the phone-You get to see what the CM's at Dining see so you can make an 'educated' choice. It's easy (no long distance) to go and and tweek them-which can be addicting too:surfweb:

woo-hoo! Congrats D&D on getting great fares and being assured of sitting together. I've never flown Southwest, the closest they come to me is Albany...but I can't imagine having some families split up!
Again, I think the policy is terrible!

We stayed offsite for my May trip with my nieces, and honestly, its so much better for us. The only downside is paying for parking--at $12 bucks a day, it hurts! I like to have my coffee before anyone sees me. I hate making a run for it in the mornings. Breakfast in the rooms in the morning and late night snacks/drinks are worth a lot when you travel.

Ev, I missed that is was DH's birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR. EV! Sounds like you're having a good one.
:cheer2:

And just WHAT, pray tell, is wrong with a 50 year old??? *I* will be 50 in 13 months!

I'd go with the 2BR suite with kitchen. Breakfast in the room is soooo much easier, and like others have said, having that fridge for snacks and drinks is great. Just becuase you have a kitchen doesn't mean you have to COOK!!

And yes, you can get pedicures at WalMart. At least around here you can!

Evening, my wonderful friends. My husband and I did some furniture shopping today. It was off of craigslist but it was all in perfect condition. We got my oldest daughter 2 new dressers, a nightstand, huge mirror, and a bedframe. Now we just have to get her new mattresses since she will have a a full size bed now. We were also able to get my youngest daughter a matching loft bed to what my middle daughter has. We'll just have to get her a new mattress too.

Bopsmom, your plans look great. We have eaten at both Ohana's and LTT. Both are favorites of our family.

D&DDisney, congrats of finding good airfare.

whgrn, our Walmart has a nail salon in it too.

I just like bugging him...I still have 4 years before I hit the big mark!! We now have the super Walmarts here so maybe they do nails there...I'll have to look.

OK need some help, DH & DS have decided we are going to Washington DC in the spring thanks to "Night at the Museum II...we are looking at our long weekend in May which is the weekend before Memorial Day. I've been on Expedia and found direct flights out of Detroit to Reagan on NWA, and I think we've decided to stay at the Embassy Suites by the Convention Centre...it's only about a year old. Any advice. I know we'll have to rent a car at least one day because DH will want to show the kids where he lived in MacLean. (DH lived in Washington for a few years when his Dad was the RCMP liaison). The 'boys' figure we need at least 2 days just to see the air and space museum (apparently there are 2 separate sights) :sad2:...I figure I'll go shopping!! Anyways I'll except any help...I believe D&D was there this past summer.

Good morning ladies! It seems that summer is still holding out here. Its glorious weather! Wonderful!

I managed to poison myself last night...I was spraying some mold in the basement last night (of course not wearing a face mask) and managed to get a good lung-ful of nastiness. Today I am absolutely suffering. I have a nice deep smokers-cough, I figure my lungs are just trying to protect themselves against the chemicals....

Ev, I love DC. And DC in the spring is wonderful. I think its the best time to go...what kind of info are you seeking? Where is the convention center? I can only stress if you have the chance, go eat at my favorite restaurant in the WORLD....Jaleo! Its near Chinatown and the arena. I normally don't drink, but I must get a half carafe of red sangria when I'm there. And the mussles are amazing.

The museums close early, so I find the difficult thing to do is figure out what to do after five. Don't go to the Lincoln theater, where Lincoln was assassinated, its not worth the trip. Love all the museums, could stay there all day. We usually sign up for the sunset bus tour of all the monuments. Its a great way to see all the famous landmarks without having to look for parking, and the guides are always so amusing and informative.

JOCA...sounds great what you got for DD. She's going to be a big girl with a full bed! When exactly do you move? Are you moving into a house?

I ran some errands yesterday and bought my antacids for the trip! that's about all I've done so far. I don't know why I'm putting off packing, it just seems like such an enormous task to do and I'd much rather play here on the Dis...

Let's have a good day everyone!

BKMETV All I can say is get good walking shoes! We were there for about 4 days and by day 4 my feet were killing me. I thought it was much worse than WDW. We didn't see everything either. When we went I only remember one building for the air/space museum. That was about 8 years ago though.

More of my trip report...

Weather stared off drizzly then cleared up by 9 am in Ketchican. We had rain off and on for the next three days.
I'm keeping these short so they don't take to long to load (I hope). Plus yesterday I had to re log in to submit.

MagiKitty, still hoping you get your call back to Millionaire soon!
Don't forget to give me a wave too if you end up driving down south!
Shame on you for not using your face mask! I have been tempted to not put one on. Thanks for reminding me of the dangers of not doing so. I hope you feel better real soon!

M&N, too cute about the little girl at the Phillies game.

BKMETV, got you beat! I am married to a 50 plus! 55 actually. I am right there with Bopsmom. I get to tease DH cause I am still in my 40s too! Of course, I beginning to see the 50s rapidly approaching on the horizon.
Not my granny but for many years my dear MIL used to give all the girls underwear and the men gloves for Christmas. Thankfully I got into the family after she had slowed on the tradition. I still loved hearing the girls laughing about it. I think I would rather have the flannel jammies!

DL55, yay for finishing your paint job! Loved your pictures! Of course, now you have me wishing I could take a cruise.

D&DDisney, good to hear that you have found a good bunch to work with at your school. Sounds like they are the kind of dedicated staff that every school could use.
Yay! Glad you found some reasonable airfare! You did good! I could have probably have saved some more if I had waited but it makes me panic to think that the rates might only go up. Looks like airfare has dropped some but I am still happy because this years flight still cost half for round trip for what our last trip did just one way. I have never stayed onsite so really can't offer advice on that. However, we have stayed offsite for every trip we have ever taken to DL and will be for our first WDW trip. I can attest that it is convenient for breakfast, wonderful for privacy and you can't beat the extra space for kids to spread out at the end of a long day. You absolutely DO NOT have to cook just because you have a kitchen but it does come in handy at times. I am looking forward to being able to make tea so we don't have to live off of soft drinks for 2 weeks. I also imagine I will be brewing up some coffee. However, you won't catch me cooking any meals while I am on vacation! Another plus for us will be that we will have a washer and dryer so I won't have to go to the laundry room at the hotel.

JOCAmom, I hope you don't get insomnia too much. I tend to be on here later than some so you may run into me sometimes. I am usually just making a quick run through though since my family seems to do everything they can to jeopardize my time.
Sounds like you made a good find on craigslist!

Pikester, your new trip report is looking good!

LITC
, Walter is just beautiful! I hope he is over his upset tummy! I vaguely remember when my kids were that small. It does go by fast! Gotta agree with lighttech that so much of the first few weeks are so tiring and very much a blur. I love my DH but must say that even that is nothing like the love I have for my kids. Simply amazing!

whgrn, what a wonderful tribute and how lucky your family was to have known SSG Jared Monti. The trip to the White House must have been amazing for your parents. Thanks to you, Jared. RIP
I think I would rather have had a pedicure at Walmart. My latest trip consisted of slipping on some water and busting my butt! Thankfully no permanent damage that I know of.... just embarrassed the heck out of me.

Bopsmom, your plans look like they are coming together quite nicely. Do I see no Epcot in your plans? Looks like you are more of an AK family. That worries me! I am only planning one day at AK so far but knowing how much my DD loves critters am I going to need more? I've been going by what I read and the majority seems to think AK doesn't even require a full day. Are they forgetting something or maybe just not animal lovers? I think it is very sweet that you are letting your DD be so involved in the decision making. She is gonna love that!
Your theater at the pool sounds wonderful!
UGH! Why did you have to remind me about how few days are left til Christmas? I gotta get busy but first I need to stop going over budget on my grocery shopping!

I am still working on a survey I started this morning. They stumped me on this question:
Now for a FUN question!! There are no right or wrong answers; you are encouraged to use your imagination as much as possible. Imagine for a moment that suddenly you are transformed into a Super Hero: what super-powers would you have and what would you do with them?
Apparently, I am having an imagination mental block cause I cannot come up with an answer. Anybody got any good suggestions?

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention that a few days ago DH received MY $100 gift card today from when I signed him up and made his first purchase with his new Disney Visa. Yippee! More spending money for our trip!

Hi disney54us and everyone else! I hope everyone has a blessed day!
