TiW, V&A and DDP

Hi All,

I'm staying on-site for 3 weeks during September (DVC) and paying for the DDP which includes a quick service, table service and snack each day.

I'm doing the maths to work out if the Table In Wonderlands is better value over the DDP but I suspect I'll end up doing the DDP. Out of interest however I did read that Victoria & Alberts was included in that 20% off?

We plan to do the Chef's Table at V&A which is $200 each (two of us) and 20% off would be $80. The card I believe only costs $75 as I am an Annual Passholder therefore for just this meal it would be worth buying it?

My other question is... If we order something not included by the DDP (like a beer) do we get 20% off this or can't you use both the DDP and TiW card at the same time?

Also.... if we eat at a Disney Resort Hotel (Chef Mickey's for example) and only use our DDP can we still get free valet parking? We will have both a TiW card and a dining receipt?

Is there any updated (for 2012) guidance on the TiW card?

Thanks in advance. :yay:

The TIW discount does not apply to the V&A Chef's Table, only the main dining room.

We prefer TIW to the DDP for these reasons:

-TIW gives the 20% discount on wine, beer and cocktails.

-We often order appetizers, which are not included on DDP. Sometimes we order two appetizers each and make that our meal. We find appetizers are often more interesting than the entree choices.

-We rarely eat quick service meals and often do three table service meals a day.

You can use DDP and TIW together, using TIW for 20% off those things you order that aren't on DDP.

Not sure on the valet parking question. Perhaps someone else knows. We always just park in self parking.

THanks. That is a shame about the Chef's Table... Disney aren't stupid are they :)

We got married this year so have two vouchers to exchange for two Annual Passports. I assume I can buy the TiW card on-site?

You can get the TIW card at any guest service location at the parks or DTD.

We find TIW better than the DDP despite the fact we usually have 1 CS & 1TS meal a day especially with the price of DDP now.

We would not order (and don't even when the DDP) a meal each usually 2 between 3 of us with an extra something. Rarely have dessert at a CS either. I have done the maths so many times since joining DVC and we have always come out ahead with TIW - I compare like for like and only include the items that would be covered by the DDP in my calculations.

Thanks! I'm really coming around to the TiW card and going to run the numbers tonight.

We usually do both, DDP and TiW Card for extras. I get the TiW especially in the years we will be doing 2 trips in 12 months time. That way we always recoup the cost of the card. Usually in the first trip, and the second is gravy. We like beer and wine with our dinners and it is 20% off. We also get the occasional appetizer too. We are a party of 4 adults, so that may make a difference.
The DDP fits our style of dining. We eat a light breakfast in the Villa, a CS lunch and a nice sit down TS dinner. We go during F & W festival, so we use our credits at the food booths. I like to plan, so making our ADR's 180 days in advance is fun to me. I like the convenience of the DDP, and I like having it prepaid. What I do is over time, I buy a series of Disney Gift Cards and use those to pay for the DDP the day I add the plan. I charge the Gift Cards to my Disney Visa and get points on that expenditure, that I use when we are in WDW.
Good Luck with your decision.,

I WISH I could get TiW. Think of it this way. It's a guaranteed 20% off (less the $75 purchase fee of the card) everything you order at participating restaurants (and there are a LOT of participating restaurants).

And since you'll be staying for 3 weeks, there is little doubt you'd make your money back and start saving.

The only time I haven't found the TiW card to be a better deal was when we traveled with another couple, in Oct, and wanted to do some better meals. I ran the figures, over and over, to see what worked best for us. The deluxe dining plan came out ahead every time. BUT...that was only because we had booked a 2 TS meal every day, and ate a TS breakfast each day, and seldom ate lunch or snacks. We saved our snack credits for the last day and just bought a bunch of 'stuff' to take home.

Don't forget that when you use ddp, you have to include tips...many people leave that out of the equation...and it adds up, quickly. When I use the TiW card, I just figure that I'm saving the tip!!! Which then gives me an overall savings of 2%......total savings is 20%, but the tip is 18% and I seldom tip more than that, so save that extra 2%. I know..overthinking.

And with the cost of the ddp this year, well, I doubt I'll use it again...ever.

Here is a working example, using $100.00 as the original bill to make the math show up easily. Note this is for Table Service. At Counter Service there is no gratuity added.

100.00 - Original Menu Amount
*20.00 - Discount
*80.00 - Subtotal
*18.00 - Gratuity Added based on $100
**5.20 - Sales Tax on $80
103.20 - Final amount charged, takes into consideration discount, gratuity and tax.

Without TiW Discount (and still figuring 18% Gratuity)

100.00 - Original Menu Amount
*18.00 - Gratuity
**6.50 - Sales Tax on $100
124.50 - Total

$21.30 - Savings using TiW Card.

(Note - At Victoria and Albert's the added gratuity is 20% instead of 18%.)
* Ignore the asterisks; they are there only so the columns/numbers line up properly.

The times we valet parked while dining, they simply wanted the receipt that showed the TIW discount on it. So if you go forward with the dining plan and do NOT use it during your meal, you won't have that discount on the receipt and I assume you'd have to pay for the parking.

I agree - the few times I did it, they wanted to see that the TIW discount was reflected on the receipt. So I don't think you could use a DDP receipt to get free parking even if you had the card.

Hi All,

. :yay:

Our experience has been that you need to have a receipt showing that you used the TIW for some portion of the meal.

Thanks All.

I've done the numbers today and they come out even! Madness.

I'm going to stick with the DDP :)

Hopefully I am not intruding on this post but have some questions about TIW card and you all sound like you have a clue where I am clueless and my eyes hurt from doing numbers.

We have always done the DDP. As we all know it was great years ago but over the years they have increased price and taken away a lot in my opinion. While it is convenient I wonder about the effectiveness.

TIW is for AP holders correct?
TIW is 75 bucks per person?

We are staying 13 days and I am thinking that TIW and my dvc discounts will be less for our dinning. DDP is certainly convenient but cost is killing me.

Thanks for any input you can give.

Scott

TIW is for AP holders (at $75 for a card) and Florida residents (at $100 for a card...so if a FL resident holds an AP, they should use the AP discount on it), and maybe, someday, DVC owners.

One card covers something like 9 people plus the card holder. It's NOT per person.

It gets you a 20% discount at many table services, and at the value food courts and Sassagoula, and the counter services at Animal Kingdom. It allows a discount on alcohol at the included places.

if you google "allears TIW" or "wdwinfo TIW" you can get to pages that describe it nicely...
