We will be sharing reservations with another couple for most of our TS meals on an upcoming trip.

Are servers willing/able to have each couple order separately and have separate bills? If I have TIW can the discount be applied to my check even if I on,y pay for 2 people rather than all 4?

Yes, they can break up and each couple pay their own bill.

But you can not apply your discount to their bill.

For them to get discount ...

It must all be on one check and all paid for by the person holding the TiW.

I went with 8 of us, all one check, I paid ... back at hotel they all gave me cash for their meals.

FROM DISNEY:

NOTE: The Tables in Wonderland discount is good for up to 10 people including the member, as long as everyone is on the same check, and the Tables in Wonderland member is paying the bill.

I'm not looking to get the TIW discount applied to both parties, just me.

If we ask for separate checks (assuming that dan be done) couldn't I pay my check (and get the TIW discount) and the other couple pay theirs (and not get the discount)?

** reread the post above. Looks like I can do what I thought I could do.

Disney is one place very used to folks eating together that need to be split. One has DDP and one not, one has AP Discount and one not, one has TiW and one not. Even within one party you can get two checks .... if I am on the DDP and have TiW .... I get one check for everything covered under DDP and then a second check that has my appetizers and drinks so I can apply TiW.

Any bill can be split, but if the couple you are traveling with are able to just pay you cash then why not offer to include them on the bill/savings. It can be paid in both cash and with a CC (so they put in cash and you cash or CC). I don't think most people would say no to 20% off food and drink. You can either settle it at the restaurant or you can pay full bill on CC and then they can pay you cash after. We used TiW for our last trip and pretty much my in laws were able to pay at times and no one questioned it (I'm the TiW card holder). It can be hit or miss i guess with the Cm serving you whether or not they hold to the card holder having to pay, but i never ran into that issue.

I stated what you quoted because that is Disney rules. It has been reported on here by some who had issues when CMs saw money changing hands at the table and suggest you do it after. I did state that I had shared it with many, but I paid, they gave me cash after we left the restaurant.

Here are more of Disney's rules on TiW.

Do some CMs ignore them and allow otherwise, I am sure but I prefer to not put them in that position.

  • Tables in Wonderland memberships are non-transferrable. The Tables in Wonderland member must be in attendance at the meal, present the Tables in Wonderland card, a driver’s license or state ID, and pay for the meal, in order to apply the discount.
  • Credit cards that are used for payment must match the name on the Tables in Wonderland card and the state identification.

No issue at all getting separate checks. In that case, the rules do not allow the CM to apply the TIW discount to the other party's check. That being said... when travelling with another family we have split one check (paid with two different credit cards) several times and have always received the discount for all guests. The CM knew that we had TIW and the other party did not, but applied the discount to the entire bill and accepted two forms of payment. I was prepared to put the entire bill on my card if necessary - and always transparent with the CM. Never hurts to ask. In my experience, the CMs try to be as accommodating as possible.

Its up to you as to how you handle it.
You can have the waiter split the check between the 2 couples. You can use TIW on your bill, they can't.
You can pay for the entire meal and use TIW. Later they can pay you back. No benefit for you, but they get the TIW discount. This is how we have handled it when needed.
You just can't split the check at the table and have the TIW discount on both tickets unless you both have a TIW card.
