TIW price increase for DVC...

It may or may not come back to bite them but it sure has poisoned the water and put a bad taste in my mouth but so has alot of things Iger has done... it doesn't come across as a small price increase , it feels more like greedy!
You have to remember, there are hundreds of people each day only discover the benefits of TiW. There are already people who never knew of it before the current price. I see people complain about the increase from $75 to $100 three years ago, and how they've never bought one since. I wasn't around for that. I've only ever known the $100 price, and I did the math and it worked for me. Now, people will come in with a fresh perspective and determine if it works for them. What you see as an evil, greedy price increase will be a normal, reasonable starting point for thousands of new purchasers.

My husband and I are both members so at least we get 6 friends. We are traveling with 3 in addition to ourselves so we are covered.
Do you have separate memberships? My DH and I are both listed on our contracts, but I was told by MS that we could use only one card for the dining discount. So member plus 3 guests. There will be my DH and me plus 3 others for our summer trip. Also how do they figure this? Do you have to designate the 3 guests? What about a place like Via Napoli where we might share a pizza?

This is all so disheartening. I can not believe how much they have increased annual passes and the TIW card. From$100-$150?!!! I understand gradual increases but this is crazy. Since I purchased Dvc 2 1/2 years ago the annual passes increased an insane amount. And every time I came to terms with the increase it went up again. I mean they just increased it in February??? I know the gold annual pass is basically the same price but my children are in school and in the next couple of years one of the annual trips is going to have to be Easter week and I am not paying the price of the annual pass without the blackout dates. I mean are they crazy??????? How much money do they think people have? Christ. I imagined many Dvc owners have kids and travel when schools have off. I don't want photo pass. If I am a Dvc member and travel at least 2x a year why do I need pics of my kids with Cinderella everytime? C'mon!!!!!

I am truly getting the feeling that Disney people really no longer care about the APor DVC TIW people at all.The people that kept them going during the downturn. They are aiming for the Frozen , one timers, groups that come every few years or 5 or 10 years. With the last price increase just this past Feb I think where they took away some of the DVC discount on AP and discontinued the non expire option on the tickets too. Like I said they really don't want us or don't care or think we will come anyway. I am thinking not so much for me anymore... really going to think hard about selling or renting my points out...I definately will not be rushing home after this Oct/Nov trip and worring about booking next Oct like I usually do and I have not booked anything for next year at all have a bundle of points that I will have to bank in Nov. So sad all the magic is going.
I have been saying this for 5-6 years now. Disney gets rid of anything that has value or quality and replaces it with something for the masses. Not the same but kinda like how they ended WDCC cause they said people didn't buy high end collectibles anymore but then turn around a few years later and tam up with Enesco again to bring out a new line similiar cheaper line, but not of the same quality.

If you think that Disney is "greedy" and no longer shares your values, then take action: Sell DVC, boycott Disney, and take your vacation dollars elsewhere. Everyone has the freedom to do that.

If you state that Disney is just looking at the bottom line and appeasing stockholders by keeping their stock value high, then you are absolutely right. You might also consider doing what we have done and become a stockholder with Disney. You may find that this certainly helps take some of the sting off of price increases!

If you are simply disappointed in price increases (like me) but still are a fan of Disney then you reevaluate your vacations and determine which AP is best for you, or even whether or not an AP is your best choice. Same holds true for TIW. (In our case, the gold pass works, this is an increase of just under $20, and TIW will probably not make sense for our family).

For our next trip we are scaling back our dining plans. As I mentioned previously, we plan to use the $150 and rent a car. We'll get groceries and eat a few meals off site. There have been restaurants we've wanted to try that were off site but we never found the time to try them. That's no longer the case. We will find the time.

Disney fails to remember that loyalty is a two way street. Under the current Disney leadership, Disney the company withdraws more goodwill than creating goodwill. Ultimately I believe this will cost the company loyalty in the long run and it's short sighted.

Ok I really think again like the APs they are attacking the locals on these price increases most of us who get the cards might need 2 trips or 1 trip with a big group to make this worth while. They are going after locals who use the card ps maybe weekly and maybe to free up some table space to the 1 timers. It does suck but lord when I travel with my family of 9 we hit that 750 in 3 meals lol. everything goes up all the time God flights from PHL to MCO are out of control sometimes 400 plus unless you want to leave at weird times.

I booked a last minute trip to DW (unplanned) BECAUSE of the airfare from Philly.

We usually fly out of EWR, but it was soooo cheap direct out of Philly, normal times, that we just bit the bullet.

$130 round trip. No joke.

My concern now is.... Parking?! Logistics?! I'm so used to ewr that I'm scared to fly out of elsewhere. Any advice?

I'm piqued. How much is it to rent a car on property for a few days? It may behoove our party to rent, go to walmart/traders/whole foods and cook- esp if renting for a few days is less than $150.

I thought renting at the swan/dolphin is $40/day, and it's cheaper to rent at the airport?

Honestly there are tons of lots around the airport that are less then 10 bucks a day with shuttles. When I fly less then 4 days I just park in their terminals garages it's 20 a day I believe but well worth not dealing with a shuttle. I scored a 250 round tripper in December but at odd times leave at 4pm back at 1030am.

I wanted to say I wouldn't buy a TIW when I came up for renewal but I did the math and so far this year we've spent about $720 in meals and booze and I have about a month and a half on my current card. If our habits are the same, it will at least get me to about break even. The DVC, AP & Chase discounts are good but mostly at Swan/Dolphin/Disney Springs for the types of places we like to go.
Not happy about it. I could have justified an additional $25 increase but this is making me think twice. As a local, I drive to WDW so I have a car and the options for dining around their are pretty endless. We may have to rethink how we eat/drink. It was just so convenient cause we were there and didn't have to leave after we parked. *sigh.

What really angers me about this, is the vicious cycle it creates. Everyone will complain the card is not worth it now, and there will be a dip in sales. So how will Disney combat the problem? Raise meal prices, so TIW will be worth it again.
Disney does not own most of the restaurants that accept TIW

We purchased the TIW card for the first time in 2014. With the math being done several times we broke even. We have learned that if we had just used the Chase Disney Visa card and asked for the 10% discount we would have saved some money. In some cases the CDV card and DVC member discount it would have been cheaper. Now with the 50% increase just for the TIW we will no longer purchase it. We will just ask for the 10% on other cards/memberships. We did use the free valet parking feature but that still didn't add to the $100 after it was all totaled up.

This is us. We have bought the card for yrs now since it was DDE. But with this increase, we sat and looked at our meals already planned and what discounts there are. We have DVC/AP/ Disney Visa. The Wave and Captain's grill - breakfast discount, Trails end, San Angel, dinner discount, Crystal Palace- breakfast and Cape May - dinner- no discount.

The only fear I have is, what if all these discount are gone next yr? Then back to the math. I'm hoping there is some listing by this Dec.

Like someone else mentioned, there are plenty of places around the airport for parking. Our favorite is Winner Airport Parking. They take you to the airport in your own vehicle, drop you off at curb side check-in, and take the car back to their lot for you. When you get back, they bring your car right to you at the terminal. It costs a little extra ($14) for that service, but so worth it. Super convenient!

As far as TIW, we were considering getting it again this trip, but now are not because of the increase. We only have one ADR that we will use our DVC discount for, and the rest will be QS or in our room. TIW has lost its value for our situation.

Ok so what is the Chase Disney Discount? I have had the card since the onset and have never noticed any dining discount info ...please steer me. And all the discount charts I have make no mention of it. Thank you. Oh we have DVC, AP, CDV.

Yes you are right we are considering selling DVC or renting points and did take our money elsewhere and purchased a condo by the ocean. We still have grandkids that want to go so do need some of our points. We are going for less time and after this trip in a few weeks for 18 days will not be booking as much time there. In the past I have owned Disney stock but when Iger arrived I sold it and am happy that I did because I did not wish to make money of the money decisions he was making Call me sillly but I did not want to be part of that, way back when he arrived and raised ticket prices 2X in one year and jump the stoller prices hugely( and at that point we did not even need strollers) that started the down turn in my Disney Magic. I put my money then else where. I know all companies need to make money but I find Iger's decisions greedy.. and yeah I know people will pay and they will make more money. I am just stating how I FEEL not how anyone else needs to feel and is not an attack on their opinions as you said Everyone has the freedom.

thank you I never noticed or noticed and figured I would just use the DVC or AP 10% so you are saying that you can piggy back the CDV discount along with DVC AP discount. so !0% +10% We have used our CDV card often to pay for dining and never had anyone say a thing.
You sure made a lot of assumptions based on a very short post. No, discounts cannot be stacked. If you already qualify for DVC and AP discounts, then the Chase discount won't add anything for you. Use the chart to determine which discount works best, or if the TiW card is worth the price, since it covers more restaurants a and is a bigger discount.

I did the math. This year TIW will work for us. We are going in Dec. and June with the kids. In Oct, DH and I will go for our 20th anniversary. Most of the places that DH and the boys want to go only take TIW, no AP or DVC discounts.

Oh sorry I must have read that on another forum discussing the TIW increase... I had already decided not get another TIW Just trying to figure out the best one to use for discounts.
