TIW price increase for DVC...

Disney is out of control on their price increases! So glad we bought ours last summer - but it will likely be the LAST one we buy. We have been buying it since it was the Disney Dining Experience @ $65. We will just stop eating so many TS meals if we have to pay full price for them. In the end it will save us by eating more CS meals. TAKE THAT DISNEY!! You won't get MORE money out of us!!!

It is what it is!
I'll do the math and decide if it makes sense for my family. If it does I will purchase it if it doesn't then I won't.

And as Disney does they "raises prices" when they want more MONEY. Seems like this happens every other month now.
We stopped using TWI when they raised it to $100, glad we did. As I said before Disney will start putting in pay toilets at the parks because there is a "LOAD TO BE MADE THERE"

I am truly getting the feeling that Disney people really no longer care about the APor DVC TIW people at all.The people that kept them going during the downturn. They are aiming for the Frozen , one timers, groups that come every few years or 5 or 10 years. With the last price increase just this past Feb I think where they took away some of the DVC discount on AP and discontinued the non expire option on the tickets too. Like I said they really don't want us or don't care or think we will come anyway. I am thinking not so much for me anymore... really going to think hard about selling or renting my points out...I definately will not be rushing home after this Oct/Nov trip and worring about booking next Oct like I usually do and I have not booked anything for next year at all have a bundle of points that I will have to bank in Nov. So sad all the magic is going.

Tried to buy TIW a few days ago and found out that DVC can't buy over the phone. Now Disney greed happens and they not only lost a TIW customer, we will be cancelling several ADR's.

Disney's greed and changes makes it difficult to continue to love the house that Walt built.

This is not the house that Walt built. This is a pale reflection. Walt built these parks as a place a family could go and play together at a reasonable price. Now it is the place where wealthy families can go and play together for an elite price.
So very sad...

We are just following the pattern of prior discount programs. They are great when they are in their infancy. Then over the years, Disney slowly starts taking away benefits, like it did wih. the expansion of dates TIW is not usable for some restaurants, and keeps jacking up the price until you reach the point where there is no longer any discount and guests stop buying and then Disney cancels the program claiming lack of any real interest.

So it will take $750 in covered spending to recoup the cost of the card. If you spend $100 per meal it would take 7 ½ meals to recover it. But this is Disney we are talking about and most spend more than a $100 per meal for a family. Then if you return to Disney with the life of the card you have more meals that are covered by TIW. You will just need to decide if it worth it for your family.

I am not sure if we will continue to buy it or not. Our current card expires 12/31/15 so we won't have to decide until our June 2016 trip.

I've thought about the benefits of getting into DVC many times but this scenario is exactly what always scares us away. Disney seems to continue to disrespect the DVC Members - they eliminate benefits and raise costs. I feel bad for people that made the jump into DVC 5+ years ago and continue to see huge increases (above normalized inflation) to the cost of passes, dining, etc.

Thankfully, ours expires in January, and we have 2 trip between now and then. We do not drink much alcohol, there are only two of us, so maybe the DVC food discounts may work better for us.

I had just decided to buy the TIW card but not now. I will rely on DVC discounts now. I read somewhere though that the DVC discounts are good for only 4 people. Is this true?

Yes
DVC site: "Dining discounts are off the regular price of food and non-alcoholic beverages, excluding tax and gratuity, and are valid for the Member and up to three Guests."

Oh for cripes sakes....we just spent a ton of time doing all the math to figure out if it would be worth it for us based on our reservations and now we'll have to re-evalute everything. That is a ridiculously high jump. Add in the AP increase and ugh.....

This is why people can't buy into DVC assuming the discounts or perks will always be there - with buying in, you are prepaying for a room and a booking advantage at your home resort. That's it. The perks are nice but not guaranteed. If you buy for perks, you run the risk of disappointment.

This is why tiw works for us- the beverage discount!!!

Yep...and that's why we will never buy. The "perk" that's guaranteed just isn't really worth much. I just for some reason feel badly for the way I perceive Disney treating the people that did buy. It's a shame to me.

If Husband and wife are members, can the discount be given to 6, 3 guests each? If each member pays a bill for their group, and each has a member card?

Meh - for us, there are other perks: the 1 bedroom with a king bed, in room laundry, not having to play discount roulette, etc. Normally we'd pay to stay in a deluxe resort studio/regular room: we feel like we get way more "value" from DVC. I use quotes because value is different to everyone but for us the perks are nice but its more about the room, what's in the room, and not having to call regularly to find discounts on a room. We're happy and have no regrets!

No loss. Trust me. Bought TIW in early September and made more ADRs than we ever did before. Big Mistake. The restaurants are mediocre at best and out of control. Coral Reef was horrid. Average, $38 bucks+ per entree and the ambiance was that of an elementary school cafeteria. So loud you couldn't hear yourself think. And it was dirty. Ugh. Tables rearranged so I could have sat on my neighbors lap. We sat down...thought about it (60 seconds)...and left. Captain's Grille was nothing to talk about either. Cape May was another school cafeteria....loud. Cancelled that one too. I get it that Disney is families, but good lord give me a break. We made the latest time reservations we could! We found solace in Jikos, Flying Fish, Schula's ... are you getting the drift? The tiny (?) bit more expensive restaurants? We didn't break our ROI for this TIW for sure. $150? No way. As my husband said, the shine has worn off Disney. As least as it goes for WDW. Using points for Vero and Hilton. I'm done. A hard decision for someone who first entered the gates in '72.
