TIW-more than 10 members in one party

Hi Everyone!

So I am considering getting the TIW. Is the TIW membership the length of my AP membership or is it a different term such as a calendar year? If I am going with a party of 11 people and 4 of them or children, can I pick and chose who the 10 people are to get the discount (can I include all the adults and pay for 1 child separately without the TIW discount) or do they pick?

So, we have a 7 day trip in September 2018 and will be doing a 10-day trip in Summer 2019. We normally do the DDP but in doing the math I think we may benefit in doing the TIW for our drinks and such as there will be 4 adults on the first trip and 5 adults on the second. I know that we all get one drink with our meal but we are likely to get a second drink, or something different than what is offered with the plan. Does anyone have past experiences with this strategy that they are willing to share?

Thanks.

My understanding is that the TiW card is good for a year after you purchase it, regardless if later your pass expires.

Usually the TiW card is good for almost 13 months - if you purchase it in September 2018, it will expire at the end of October in 2019.

Just let the server know which meal you will be paying for OOP.

If you order additional drinks or anything not covered by your dining plan the TiW discount can be applied to the OOP items at participating restaurants. If you have the dining plan on both trips it may be difficult to make the TiW cost effective. I think you have to spend at least $650 OOP before you recoup the cost of the TiW and even more if you have an AP, Disney Visa or other applicable dining discount.

The AP, Disney VISA and other dining discounts don’t account for alcohol correct?

And I am pretty certain I already know the answer but never hurts to ask...TIW does not give you a discount at food stands correct? So if I buy a beer at a food stand at one of the countries in Epcot to walk around with, I won't get the discount? It has to be in a participating restaurant/lounge/etc.

As far as I can remember TiW is the only one that includes alcohol. All of their respective websites will list the inclusions and exclusions. Allears has a quick comparison chart of discounts:

On the TiW website under Benefits is a link to the venues that accept TiW. You are correct that kiosks, walk up stands and carts are not included. It is mainly TS restaurants, lounges and a handful of CS (mainly in AK and a few resort CS venues).

I believe that is only if you order it by phone, in order to account for the delays in shipping the card. I contacted them, and they said if you do it in-person it is 12 months to the day.

Correct, just the participating places. So there are actually quite a few newer restaurants at Disney Springs who are not in the program yet.

We've gone with a party of 11 (6 adults, 5 kids) and asked for one of the children not to be counted in the 10 person TIW limit, that makes the most financial sense.

I ordered it by phone on August 2nd and it arrived today. My card is good until September 30, 2018. Also, when you order by phone it’s plastic like a credit card. That was my main reason for ordering by phone. Baby 2 comes in November, so we won’t be back to the World after our August trip until next August, at earliest.

Yeah that’s my plan too. I visit beginning of December this year and then for NYE next year. I’ll be calling on november 1st to order it, which will last until Dec 31, 2019 (though really, Dec 30th). So I’ll have a few days on my NYE trip in January when I can’t use it, but I’ll still have an AP for some discounts.

There are black out dates for TIW. Blackout dates include major holidays: Mother's Day, Easter, 4th of July, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day.
