Yes we saw that a couple of weeks ago. I'll try to find the thread. But one of the biggies is is that the spouse card and replacement card went from $25 to $50. Big Ouch!
Last year, my husband and I checked menu prices on where we were planning to eat and TIW was more economical than the DDP. My card is good through this year so I will get to use it for one more trip. Then, I will have to refigure prices. We never get a second card as we always eat together.
I just got smacked in the face with this on Friday night. I went to Epcot guest services to get my new handy dandy TIW card for $60 and found out it had "just" gone up to $75!!! But just in this weekend we saved $25 on food, so I know it will still be a savings for us!
BTW, did you know that Flame Tree BBQ gives a 20% discount for TIW???? I was pleasantly surprised by that!
While I completely 100% understand everyone's frustration here, I wish I could qualify for TW. Since I'm not an AP or FL resident I can't even begin to touch such and offer. This type of perk would be something I would purchase in a heartbeat if I could.
Only one adult needs to get the AP to buy the TiW card, and it doesn't have to be a premium AP. Compare the cost of the MYW ticket for the adult, vs. the price for a standard AP and TiW card. If you would use the AP to get room discounts, all the better, as it would factor into your "break even" point. The other adult and the kids can get regular MYW tickets.
Edited to add: Although you didn't ask, I know someone always does ask, so I will just spit it out:
You cannot buy a child's AP to buy into Tables in Wonderland or use it for room discounts. The AP must be for adults.
We'll still gladly buy the TIW card. We go for at least two weeks per year and have at least one TS (usually two TS or a Signature Restaurant) everyday. Average cost of a meal for the two of us (with drinks) is probably $75.00. $75.00 time 21 meals = $1575.00. That means we'll save about $315 from the discount. We also save by using the free valet parking. Last time we went we saved over $50 in tips because we only tiped the 18% and not our normal 20 to 25%. Its just too difficult to figure out how much we "usually" tip and then figure the difference in the required tip and the tip we would usually leave.
So that's a savings of at least $425.00 (with the valet savings) all for only $75 - I'll take it
It's possible one spouse would go to the parks w/o the other. Living an hour from WDW, we have lots of guests. My DS & I will go to the parks with them, while my DH goes to work. For this reason, we got our TIW card in my name. The issue with this is that my DH always pays when he's with us. The CC will be in his name & the TIW card in mine. We haven't been questioned so far, but I can see how it could be a problem. The most convenient option would be for both of us to have a card. We don't think it's worth the extra $ though. When the 2nd was free, we always got 2. I'm sure there's probably some spouses who both go with guests or friends w/o the other. In that case, they would both need a card. I would think both the above scenarios would be more common in locals than other AP holders, but there may be some of those who need 2 also.
