TIW...AP Required or Not in 2012?

Subscribing...hoping for late March for spring break. We had A/P but no longer do. We really missed TIW in our last 2 visits.

I'm more than amused at how long it takes Disney to negotiate with itself. You wouldn't think this would be so complicated.

Either that, or desperate to please the membership, some news was given very prematurely. As in, there was an agreement to discuss this TiW offering to members but nothing really formalized?!

Otherwise, isn't it pretty much how much to charge?

I really think we should get the same $75 price that AP holders do. A pass holder will have to buy that pass a lot of years to come close to the investment a DVC member has made. I get it, not owed anything but a room. But an AP holder isn't owed anything but admission to the 4 major theme parks (plus some other stuff if premium).

Awhile back (October) I sent a note to DVC making an argument as to why DVC members get access to the TiW card. I got a very nice call back from Member Satisfaction who mentioned sending my thoughts on to marketing (who knows if they did). I also laid out why the $75 cost would make sense for the DVC membership.

Fingers crossed.

I tend to think it is more about convincing the Resorts Division (or whatever one has the restaurants) that allowing DVC members to have the card will increase the Restaurants revenue (as opposed to just getting less $$ overall because DVC members with the card won't bring in more revenue than the status quo).

Again, this isn't an entitlement or a reward for purchase, but rather a mechanism for Disney to make more $$$. You would be better off arguing that as far as usage goes, DVC members are more like passholders than they are like Florida residents. I believe the Florida residents get charged more than passholders for the TiW card because as a group, Florida residents are likely to use the card more often than are passholders.

Agree. It seems logical to me that allowing DVC members to buy TiW would increase revenue because it would encourage people who normally eat QS or cook to save money to eat more TS meals. But obviously, I don't have the research numbers on this.

I purchased DDP once and decided it isn't worth it because we had a hard time using up the QS meals and only used up the snacks because we used them at F&W. I would definitely end up booking more TS resies to get my money's worth if I can purchase TiW.

Hope they follow through.

My arguments to Disney weren't why it was good for membership, it was why it would be good for membership, DVC and Disney Dining. Somewhat factual and somewhat blue sky. Obviously, Disney doesn't do anything if it doesn't make a buck. Part of my point was what can Disney do to get the DVCer out of the kitchen and in the parks spending more.

We won't do DDP because we can't eat all the food. If I can spend the same without and only get what I'll eat, I'll do that before I pay the same for stuff I'll just throw away.

I also argued why a MYW ticket discount would encourage more days in the parks and increase revenue.

Just bumping to see if there were any updates--we go end of March and we were really hoping to get back on the TIW plan (we're no long a/p holders)....

Anybody hear anything????

It is available. I got my TIW card at the Guest Services location at Animal Kingdom on Saturday Janaury 21st. We went down for a long weekend and I was happy to obtain the card as we took my 18 year old nephew. Man can that boy eat!! I had to show my DVC member card but it was no problem - except the $100 part. :)

Disappointed that it's $100. That means we'd have to spend $500 in qualifying meals to break even, as opposed to $375. Not sure our eating patterns would take advantage to that level.

I agree about the cost being $100 over the $75 annual passholder cost however, I know I spend $125 in food over the long weekend. So, I have already made up the difference of $25 and we plan on going down for eight nights over the Food & Wine Festival this year. It will end up saving us money in the end. Actually after totalling up our food bills, I am half way to recovering the $100. So it really is a no brainer for us. :)

That's what they charge Florida residents (who don't hold APs) as well.

Thanks all for the updates - can anybody tell me if TIW is good for DL or is it WDW only? If it is DL then it may be good for us, but for $100 and WDW only, I am thinking no--that will kind of make it or break it for us. So, do you just obtain it from any Guest Services desk in the main parks?

Thanks again!

It is only good at WDW, and only at participating locations (which is most but not all table service locations, and a few counter service locations, plus some bars and lounges).

And it is available at the Guest Relations locations at the 4 parks plus Downtown Disney.

Thank you - I am disappointed that I am not able to find anything about it on on dvcmember.com. Since it's a new perk, you would think they might highlight it or something. Anyways, I find it disappointing that you have to be extra savvy or be in touch with those "in the know" on the disboards or elsewhere to know about this! Anyways, thanks again....we still might opt for it since we will be travelling during spring break when dining is extra $$$$!

Just wanted to add that it MAY be on dvcmember.com somewhere, but I definitely could not find it in the perks or 'usual' places....I shouldn't have to scour for this....

I checked dvcmember.com a couple days ago and it definitely wasn't there. There certainly hasn't been an announcement about it either.

I got a TIW mailing the other day too to renew, because my last one expired a month ago or so...although since my AP had already lapsed, I wasn't eligible until the DVC thing was made official...but the mailing said nothing about DVC.

I'm a bit confused... I spoke to DVC Member Services this past Saturday and they didn't have any details yet and they said they know its coming but they are waiting for the details, expectations are Spring (as others have said). They said it definitely is coming.

And at both Vero Beach restaurants, plus The Green Cabin Room for those who frequent VB.

On a side note.. Who could possibly take a WDW vacation and NOT spend $500 on food for a family? I guess if you don't drink, and only visit four or five days a year its possible, but I think the average DVC Member does more than that.
Perhaps I'm wrong.

Agreed, just going to V&A once is $250 for 2 (even more if you get the wine pairing).

We don't dine at V&A.

And we often stay for longer than 4-5 days, but not necessarily every year.

What we don't do is eat at a qualifying location each and every day. We choose our meals, and will eat counter service or make use of the kitchen in the villa the other times.

I'm not saying it is not possible to spend the $500 - I'm saying that in our particular case, I have to do the math again to see if it is worth it.

It depends on how many TS meals you eat AND it depends if all of them are at participating restaurants AND it depends on how big your family is. We eat breakfasts in our villa and we usually only do about 3 TS meals over the course of a week. Partly because of the expense involved and partly because we don't like to be tied to ADR times & schedules so much. The last time we got the TIW card our DS was still eating kids meals & it took us 2 trips to recover our $75 (we also had meals at restaurants that did not participate in the plan - like at T-Rex). We also do not dine at the likes of V & A and try to keep to more moderately priced meals.

I am planning on getting it again this year for the first time in awhile as we have a 6 night / 6 day trip over spring break and we have 9 nights in August (although planning 2 of those days at Universal for a change) AND DS is now 14 (15 in May) and he will now eat an entire pizza on his own if he's hungry so THIS TIME we should recover our costs quickly. Buffets rule with a growing teenage boy!! :rotfl: I will also for sure try harder to plan for places that accept the card. We will be getting AP's on our trip over spring break so I will get those first then get the TIW card with that discount.
