Sorry just need a vent...

I've worked for the same employer for 19 years, while I understand some peoples frustration with my industry, in general most peoples frustration stems from a lack of understanding of it's workings... .On another board here on the Dis, my employer is constantly getting bashed... at least a few threads a week... Months ago I'd try to assist, educate, defend but then I got bashed in a PM.. so I try to ignore the posts but sometimes they make me mad!!

They've been loyal to me for 19 years & through three mergers - they have helped me feed, clothe, house my family & most importantly fund Disney trips... so I'm loyal to them! Is that unheard of in this day & age?!

Geesh... just call me Darth because I guess I'm part of the Evil Empire!!!

There is a lot of that, Christine, and I also find it very upsetting. I noted in another thread this morning that there seems to be a tendancy for folks, searching for ways to support an upset poster, to fall-back on doing so by bashing others.

Don't let the bash-ers chase you away, Christine. You're right; they're wrong. Stick to your guns, share what you know. Someone out there may be positively affected by gaining the greater understanding of the situation that you have to offer. The more people realize that there are two sides to every story the better, even if it is only subsconsciously.
 

:hug: Some people have a hard time seeing big companies as having a human side.
 
I work for a HUGE bank (200,000 employees) in the government relations (read: lobbying) department. Talk about a double whammy :thumbsup2 !!! I've gotten to the point where I just :rolleyes: when ill informed people start a conversation about banking or lobbying. Generally, people are clueless and speak in soudbytes. I've given up and just go about my business. Frankly, I'm surprised you work for a credit card company (as you know, they are all evil :rotfl: ) I would have pegged you for a Wal Mart employee when I read the first part of your post... :lmao: !

Well, I'll be the dissenter. Those people who "bash" your company, or any company, have just as much right to be angry with it as you have to defend it. No one opinion is more worthy than anothers. Just because you have had a good experience with whomever it is you work for (and by the way, good for you!) doesn't mean I haven't had a crappy one.

Heck...I have a good job at the company I work for...but I can fully understand that there are other people who do not, for whatever reason.
 
I previously worked for a particular employer (UK-based only) and was completely the opposite!

I could not stand the company and would argue all the bad points of them whenever someone said that they liked the company or shopped there.. :lmao: :rotfl:[oops!]

I understand completely. My dad has worked for over 20 years at a Nuclear Power Facility. You wouldn't believe the rude and uneducated comments I've heard about that.

Just remember, just because people have problems with your industry doesn't mean that they have problems with you personally. The person who PM'ed you was out of line. I would have reported them to the Mods.
 
I feel your pain. My husband works for AT&T (formerly SBC) and you should hear what we hear. Most people don't understand how the phone companies work and they love to spout all kinds of bad information and misinformed opinions.
 
Well, while I don't care for many of the CC companies practices, I will say that every time I've ever had to call one of them, all the customer service reps I've spoken with have been very polite and helpfull. I do realize that 99% of the employees of these companies have nothing to do with the polices they enforce.

I'm sure it can't be easy to see your company/industry attacked. Perhaps try to see it more as "constructive criticism, with attitiude" ;)

And I agree that nasty PM's are not cool (no matter what the reason)!

Actually, not bashing your husband, but we had to use phone cards in WDW to phone the UK and the only ones we could get our mitts on were AT&T ones (will be doing research next time!). They were swallowing our money :eek: :teeth: :rotfl:

Haven't got anything bad to say about the companies service though.. but the cost :crazy2:

Like I said, my fault for not researching ahead of time! :blush:
 
You know I am beginning to think that a lot of society is starting to think that is the way of life. Lets just bash this person cause they don't think like we do. Lets bash this company cause for whatever reason. To many people are too darn quick to judge others, and then bash them over it.

Often I've seen it were people don't even take the time to really listen to what the other person has to say. They don't let them finish their thought before they jump in and criticze them. Sad so very sad. :worried:
 
I see this happening a lot with credit card companies, the government and Wal-Mart. I normally go after one credit card/loan company because I worked for them and I know first hand that they are an evil company. It's not just because of how they finally treated me (even though that didn't help!) but also because of how I saw them treat their other employees and their customers. I was SO ready to be out of there.

So, this shows me that there are truly bad companies out there or at least one at any rate. However I would never be mean to any of their worker bees. That's pointless and unfair.
 
I also understand. DH and I are lawyers. :crazy2: Talk about a profession that gets bashed!!

The lawyer jokes don't even phase me anymore. . .
