I am in the process of planning a trip to US, IOA, and MK for Oct. My family has not been to Orlando in a few years. We normally spend our time at the Disney parks. We have two older (preteens) and two smaller children. We thought about splitting the time between US/ IOA and MK and Seaworld. Hopefully, this will give both sets of kids things to do. We have never been to Universal before, can anyone give me some must have tips for these parks? Taking 4 kids, my husband and I are trying to be budget minded. ANY hints will be appreciated!!!!!!

Look into the Orlando FlexTicket. It gets you into US, IOA, SW, and Wet n Wild. The per day cost is a real bargain and you can come and go as you please. That means you can do a morning at Universal and the afternoon at SW (and only pay parking once that day!).

Also, can someone tell me about the Halloween Horror Nights. As I already mentioned, my two preteens would love it, but is it appropriate for my 7 and 4? What alternatives would you recommend?

Wear quick drying clothes and maybe put your little ones in bathing suits. There are so many opportunities to get soaked! Your little ones will like all the areas in the kid section at US. We missed these our first trip and I think we spent the most time there our last trip. Curious George, Feivel are playgrounds with water. Good places to hang out while bigger ones ride roller coasters. Maybe you could leave the younger ones at one of the kid camps (babysitting services) at the hotels and go to HHN. I saw it on the Travel Channel and it looks like it could be pretty intense for kids.

IMHO, HHN is too intense for your 7yo and 4yo. It may very well be too intense for your pre-teens as well.

HHN has lots of scary people running around, some with chainsaws, some without. They all want to hear you scream. If your kids get scared when watching scary movies, then have them avoid it. If they like horror movies, then they'll like HHN.
