Just thought a thread that contained useful tips on tackling the cold/rain /snow on trips to Disneyland in the Winter months might be of help to us all.

I'll start.

1. Wear tights under your Jeans.
2. Buy thermal vest from Peacocks (mens, ladies and childrens at cheap prices)
3. Thermal socks a must.
4. Double layer your gloves.
5. Borrow the shower cap from the hotel just in case you get an unexpected shower whilst at the park.
6. For ladies who 'dont do hats' try earmuffs instead. But those who do (like my Mum) fake fur is the warmest.
7. Take a small thermal blanket for children to sit on when viewing any outside shows ie. Stunt show. The seats are concrete and VERY cold.

We had one particularly cold day last December (almost too cold to go out). My DD8 face was red with the cold so I used her scarf to wrap around the lower half of her face and ears, covered it will her hat and then put her hood up. She looked a little like a polar bear but was as warm as toast. You can view the funny looking person here.

great tips, I will be getting dd some thermals for our trip in March and lots of layers for her, we went last December and it was freezing so will definitely be prepared for March.

Thanks for sharing Sarah. We are going in January. I've already started on the thermals buying but the other tips will be useful !

Thanks for the advice - the one about wearing the shower caps made me laugh - I have an image of those ladies who 'don't do hats' yet would be quite happy to wear a shower cap in public when it rains. :rotfl2:

Yes it must create a very funny picture. :goodvibes

Mind you, for me the shower cap would be much better than my hair being wet and going all frizzy with no hair straighteners to hand :lmao:

Perhaps I should have reworded it to say. Wear it in an emergency and to keep the rain off until you get to a dry place and out of the rain altogether. :thumbsup2

Do you have any tips pigby ?

Take regular hot choc/ tomato soup breaks to warm your tummy! We found those absolutely crucial- plus it gave us a chance to sit somewhere warm. Also the other kind of drinks in the evenings :drinking1

Buy some hand warmers.
It are small flat packages witch are air sealed.
Once you open them they warm up by themselves.
Put them in your gloves or socks and they keep you warm for a few hours.
Warm feet warm body !!!
They cost just a few penny each and in Holland every pharmacy and fish bait shop sells them.
You can use them also for the little ones . You cant burn yourself .

Fab Idea :thumbsup2 Just bought some on ebay. Thanks soooo much.

They are so comfy when you walk through a cold park.
Warm hands and a warm hart. :santa: :santa:

Sarah..thanks for the ideas... :thumbsup2 .Did you buy the hand warmers from onlybowls ( ebay) ? That's the only one I saw that sells them .

Do you happen to know if there is any store in the UK that sells on line thermal vests ? For me it's much easier to buy on line. Where I live, it's a small town and the big cities are over an hour away !

We wore plenty of layers. Long thermal underwear (veeery attractive!), long-sleeved top, big chunky jumper, big puffy coat and salopettes (ski wear is great if you've got it!). Then a scarf, hat, thinsulate gloves (ski ones), 2 pairs of socks (1 normal + 1 thick thermal) and big Thinsulate boots (like Timberlands but you can get cheaper ones from places like Barratts).
DD was in her pushchair when we went last winter. She wore thermals + normal layer of clothes + snowsuit, hat, mittens etc and we also had a Buggysnuggle for her.
We were toasty warm, particularly with regular cups of hot choc inside us! :thumbsup2

As Sarahc said, plenty of layers is the best you can do + scarf + beanie + gloves. And a good idea for those like me that always have the feet frozen: don't wear too thin shoe sole: the thicker the best!

Thanks Sarah for the links and for the offer of buying them for me and posting them...I don't want to bother you. The link you gave me will keep me busy. I just idi a search on Ebay...I will see which is more conevenient...and see whcih seller has vests for my DD's and for myself...I'm sure my DH has some somehwere put away. I better start looking for them.

I just asked the hand warmer seller to let me know what the postage is for ITaly.

I imagine you all had long sleeve thermal vests ?

The photos of your daughter are so cute...It sure looked VERY VERY Cold !!

I want to thank all of you again because you are helpling me so much.. ! Sarah I'll take not of the restaurants that you will be after the 26th of December ..and hopefully I'll try and go and meet you...at least just to say HELLO ... !! :Pinkbounc

It would be no trouble at all if your stuck.

DD had long sleeved. DH & I had the short sleeved. They seem quite thin but are surprisingly warm.

My friends laughed when they saw those pics and it does seem a lot colder in Disney but I think its because you are open to the wind chill for such prolonged periods it seems much colder. :goodvibes Somehow though it seems to add to the ambience of it all, especially during the Christmas season. I cant wait cos I  DLRP party:

I could never do a skiing holiday - LOL

A hot chocolate one day sounds good to me. :thumbsup2

We spent a lot of time in shops just looking and trading with CM's instead of walking outside. We bought a disney mug. You see them on the checkout of the CS places. You can refil them cheaper and therefore have a hot mug to take with you.

I'm hoping that the cold weather does come soon - last weekend I went for the first of the holiday decorations and it was 12-15 degrees so still very warm. I brought my winter wool jacket and havent' really worn it yet - today I just went out in a sweater.....

I know that it's tough to be out in the cold for a long time, but I am really looking foward to it - I love going to WDW on the rare day that Florida has a freeze!

Once you are queueing inside POTC is very warm!

:sunny:
