Tips for preventing motion sickness?

I am fine traveling but I do feel somewhat sick on some rides. I was fine on RnR and Tot but didn't ride Star Tourss or Body Wars on our last visit. I really want to try those this time and Mission Space but I don't want to get sick! Dramamine is out because it will make me sleepy. I am wondering about those wrist bands or other non drowsy motion sickness aids. Has anyone here had luck with those?

Have you tried the Non-Drowsy Dramamine pills? I take one every morning and I'm good for the day, no motion sickness or drowsiness.

I've used the wristbands-- I think they're called Sea Bands. They seem to work fairly well.

They have no/limited motion seats on Star Tours - you need to ask though....

Thanks

I find Sea Bands unreliable. If you don't want to be sleepy try Bonine or Non-Drowsy Dramamine. Also half a tab of regular dramamine may do the job.

Another vote for Bonine! Use it every time and never get sick. Good luck!!!

I always use the scopolamine patch. This is a prescription patch that you put behind your ear. The patch is good for 3 days. You can swim and shower, it can get wet. You just put a new one behind the opposit ear every 3 days. It can tend to make your mouth dry at first, but I just keep some hard candy on hand. It works really well on all the rides.

I used Mecalzine (generic for Bonine?). One lasts 24 hours and I would take it before bed (they recommend this in case you might experience any drowsiness). Was not at all tired and they worked great! ~:D~

I've had very good luck with the Sea Bands, but you do have to remember to put them on properly (about 2 fingers width away from the inner wrist.) I like that you don't have to worry about taking a pill far in advance or having interactions (alcohol and the patch can make for a worse reaction than motion sickness!)

The other thing that will help is to keep your head level; pick a fixed spot at "horizon" level and keep looking at it. This keeps your inner ear fluid level so you avoid that vertigo that seems to start off the motion sickness.

My DS and DH both have this problem and they do take bronine at night and it does help but it does still make my DS sleepy. Another thing that helps him is to not let his stomach get too empty. Grazzing thoughout the day on pretztels, crackers etc. seems to help a lot too. We are going to try the sea bans this year and see how they work for us.

We use Bonine, too. I haven't tried using them at night, though. We may try that this trip.
