Anyone have tips for packing everything you need to and fitting it all in the suitcase or dufflebag?
Ideas for both driving and flying would be appreciated.

Space Bags work great! But for flying you have to be careful you don't go over the weight limit. Also, if travelling with kids a great tip is to package their clothes in Ziplocs. Include all things necessary for the outfit in one bag. Makes it easy to unpack, and get dressed in the a.m.

I lay out all my outfits first, same with kiddos, I make sure I'm not over packing clothes this way. I also make a list of everything I will need for about a month or so in advance, this way as I remember things I will add them to the list and then there's what I need to pack! I also go through the list as I'm packing and realize sometimes there's just things that just don't need to go, so I'm able to weed through as I'm going along on my list, I also mark everything off my list as I pack it. I start my list with the most important things that without question have to go, i.e., medications, tickets, magic express tickets, purse items that have to make it into my baggallini (i.d., credit card, cash) so I don't have to take the purse, then I go from there, such as types of clothes you can't do without, unders, sox (which believe it or not seem to be biggest item forgotten for a lot of people, self included! LOL!) shoes, and then I do bathroom things you can't do without, toothbrush, toothpaste, kids toothbrushes, (they always forget these things) shampoo, DEODORANT! LOL or special soaps you might have to have, shampoo's, brush, makeup, for guys their dop kit. You get the idea, what ever is most important, start your list off with that and build on your list from there. Like I said, if you start your list ahead of time you'll remember everything you need to take, also ask your family or a friend to listen to your list and see if your leaving anything off of it, or ask for their suggestions, this is always good to have someone else's opinion.

If flying, I recommend having a change of clothes and essentials in a carry-on bag; when we arrived at Disney at 10:30am we used ME, it took a while for our room to be ready after we checked in at the resort. We didn't have access to our checked luggage until 3pm. I had packed summer clothes and swimsuit in the carry-on, and DD was able to swim in the resort pool during our first afternoon .

It really depends on how many people you're packing for. Dh and I flew from Portugal (dh is military and we were stationed there) to Italy and then from Venice to Paris for a week with one backpack each, and that's it. It was only the two of us, though. We used backpacks so we could carry them on the plane, and that was it. We rolled our clothes and packed our toiletries (travel-sized) in ziplocks.

Looking back, I think that was insane! LOL But, technically it can be done ...

If going during the rainy season put everything valuable in ziplock baggies. At the Orlando airport our friend had his luggage left outside on the tarmac while it was raining. Our's came with a giant muddy footprint on it.
We put luggage bands around all our bags (the kinds with out the plastic buckles). Also we use a ziploc to hold all our pocket change, phone, tickets) when going through airport security. We don't want to be that person who leaves their stuff behind.

That's another good reason to use the compression (Space Bags or other brands) bags. They keep the contents dry! As a previous poster noted, just be careful with the weight of the bag. I usually leave some air in each bag, which requires a bit more space in the case.

And I second a carry-on bag if you are flying. Two sets of unmentionables (including socks) plus a change of clothes & nightwear. Swimsuits don't require much space, so if they're important, be sure to include them. Basic toiletries (toothbrushes, toothpaste, contact lens stuff, medications) are a good idea, as well.

I use ziploc baggies as much as possible. I definitely pack my under garments in ziplocs. I don't want anyone else touching those clothes if they are inspecting my luggage.

Since we all wear white socks, I will pack DHs socks in one baggie, My socks in another baggie. I pack DSs clothes in a baggie (a whole oufit from skin out). For me, it just makes packing a bit more organized and unpacking in the room a snap.:thumbsup2 Coming home is just a whole different story.:rotfl2:

I just picked up some big ziploc bags at christmas tree shop. Big enough to put an outfit in each one. They have handles so you can hang then on hangers in closet. A bunch will fit on each hanger. I also will use the same bags to pack dirty clothes on the way home. We are driving down and will pack stuff in a top of the car travel bag. The bag is waterproof but just in case this will add extra security.

I love the Christmas Tree Shop. There is one near Worcester, MA near my family and I go there when ever I visit....

Sadly we have nothing like it here in CA
