Our next trip will be our family of four with another family of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids aged 8, 5 and 5).

Since I only have 2 kids I have never thought much about the problems that present themselves with an odd number of children.

Any tips/tricks from the fertile veterans here?:cool1:

Thanks.

From what I've read on here the main problem you face is everyone wanting to do different things, and different peoples ideas about timing, lots of people seem to want to get to parks at rope drop personally I can never get DH moving before 8am so this would never happen for me!

From personal experience being a family of 3 if a ride is two side by side we take it in turns to sit on our own depending on the type of ride sometimes it was easier for DH and DS to sit together because I have longer legs than they did ( now it's me who's the short one as DS is now 17 and 6'2!)

Communication seems to be the key find out what everyone wants to do and what they're expectations are and I'm sure you'll have a great time :)

The only problem that I could forsee are the very few rides where an adult and 2 children could not ride together. In that case the 8 year old is old enough (according to Disney rules) to ride by himself. Or perhaps, if you have a child over the age of 7, he/she could ride with the 8 year old.

We are a family of five. kids are ages 8, 6 and 4. I was surprised at how little an issue it was with the smallest one. So many rides they let you ride three at a time i.e. peter pan, toy story buss lightyear. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was. Ours are so close in age that it hasn't been a big issue with wanting to ride different things. Also remember rider swap if there's something youngest doesn't want to ride that the others do. I would say when the youngest needed to nap I would go back to resort with her. And leave dh and older two kids in the park.

The only small bump in the road we had was wanting a value resort and bc we are a family of five to get the best deal with five people we had to book at POR (a moderate). That would be the only minor issue. But we love POR now.

Strollers:

We rented one double stroller and brought our own umbrella stroller from home. that worked fine.

As they get older Im sure we'll have more opinions to consider. :)

Family of five here too :thumbsup2 (see username :) ).

There are no issues with a family of five, except finding a resort room that holds 5 people. The most economical we've found are the alligator bayou rooms in Port Orleans Riverside. I think they are less costly than the suites at the value resorts even. The room is definitely lower cost than two (4 person) value resort rooms (another option).

As far as the parks go, there really isn't a problem with five especially at the ages that you mention.

We are a family of 5 as well - DS-7, Ds-7, and Ds-5. The only time we ever had an issue is when they were younger and only on those occasions when my DH would head back to the room and leave us in the parks since there are a few rides like TSMM that were too small for us to ride together. Now that the twins are the magical age of 7 even that is not an issue any more.

I have been told that making ADR's for 4 is easier than for 5, but truly have never really run into that as an issue.

Another family of five here. Other than the more limited room selection, our biggest issue was that our oldest could ride alone, but our two younger ones could not, which meant the oldest typically had to ride solo or next to a stranger, and she got tired of not being able to ride with DH or I. So we just made sure she got some solo time with each of us, doing something she was interested in that the younger ones weren't (like the sorcerer's of the MK quests).
