Hi All,

We are going to be honeymooning in Disney World during the first week of January, which I understand is one of the busiest times for Disney World.

Other than, "Go at a less busy time" does anyone have any hints, tips, or suggestions for how to best enjoy a trip to DW during one of its busy seasons?

Thanks!

Hi,

Once you get past the weekend after New Year's the crowd will drop off substantially.

If you are looking for tips on what to do over busy times there are many threads on the Theme Parks Attractions and Strategies board.

I was told by EVERYONE here on the DIS and elsewhere that right after newyears the crowds drop DRAMATICALLY and the parks really arent' that busy because of the marathon because all of the marathon runners are...well...running. They said it will be busy, but nowhere NEAR as busy as the summertime or holidays.

We avoid the parks on New Year's Eve and go to the Magic Kingdom first thing in the morning on New Year's Day. So many people will have been out partying the night before so you can get a jump start in the parks if you want in the morning before the crowds increase later that day. Maybe pick up a few fast passes. This is only a good tip if you are not one of the thousands out celebrating the night before. We have a 3 yr. old and an 8 mos. old so we will be back at our resort quietly counting down with Dick Clark(it's funny, probably no different of a midnight on New Year's Eve than if we were at home). Don't worry, this will be you in a few years.

I think you posted the other day looking for tips and you said that you were coming in pretty early in the morning. I just wanted to add that when we left for our honeymoon on Dec. 31, 2002, we had to wake up at 4:30AM for our flight to Cancun. My DH and I actually fell asleep before midnight that year b/c we were just so tired and we woke up about 10 minutes before midnight b/c everyone in our resort was celebrating. So don't feel bad if you end up being totally exhausted and fall asleep earlier than you expect. Just know that we were in that situation once before.

Don't stress over trying to see/do everything.

My first trip to WDW was the week after Christmas. I had never heard of this board before, and had nothing pre-planned...I didn't even know what rides were at which parks (yes, we were one of "those" people that get their maps, park themselves on a bench and say "ok, where do we want to go?" :rotfl: ) The crowds were CRAZY, as were a lot of the other guests ;) . But I have to say, that's one of the best vacations we've ever had.

Have a general idea where you want to go. If you have some "must do's", get to the parks at opening and do those first. Other than that, just enjoy being at WDW and on your honeymoon!

Christine
