I have done houskeeping as a job when I was younger. I always appreciated a tip, which didn't happen very often. I don't know what the standard pay is now, but back in the early 80's we were paid minimum wage, and let me tell you, this is no easy job. The 1st month I worked I would wake up every morning feeling like I was beat up! It is a backbreaking job.
When we travel we always leave a tip even in the upscale places that I'm sure the housekeepers are paid well at. Unless, of course, there is a problem with the service and cleanliness of the room. I didn't tip at WDW to get any special surprises, it was just my DH and I so it wouldn't have mattered. I just like to make the Mousekeepers day. I myself enjoyed making all different envelopes with quirky little messages, such as a picture of Tinkerbell that said we "Tink" your a wonderful Mousekeeper.
Everytime we'd see our m/k'r she'd have a big smile for us
