Tipping Valet Parking

Is it the done thing to tip valet parking? This is for a Clearwater hotel which offers ONLy valet parking - no self park option. Its a more expensive hotel than I would normally choose - but it was my SIL's choice. I'm going to resent paying for the parking enough ($15 per day in addition to the "resort fee") without having to tip everytime we take the car in or out.....but I wanted to know what the expectation is.

Well we don't do valet that often as we're normally in self park resorts plus the other half drives for a living so we try not to use the car overly anyhow but on the rare occasion we do it's normally $1-2 dollars a time.

I think in a way it depends on how much effort it is for them to do it - if it's just literally over there *waves hand generally* then you'd likely tip less than if they had to run a long way (they do usually jog to go get your car!) or even if it was raining etc.

As I say though, we rarely bother with Valet and haven't even done it for at least 5 years so I could be offbase with that amount anyhow.

Are you supposed to tip when dropping off or collection? or both?

In a situation such as the OP is describing, where only valet parking is offered, we only tip when collecting the car - usually $2 or $3.
