Okay, it may have been asked before, but I'm new to thew DVC. I know we have free Valet parking. But what do most people tip the attendent? Do you tip at drop off, pick up or both?

The valet parkers do not share tips; so we usually tip $2 each way; on the premise they do an equal amount of work; and I'm glad I never had to do it!!:smooth:

You'll see all sorts of thoughts on this subject--. I did some research awhile back and learned that MOST of the Travel Experts and Travel Magazines, etc recommend tipping ONLY the person who brings your car to you. It can happen that the fellow who meets you when you drop the car off will have nothing else to do with your car--it can sit for some time before someone takes it to the lot--and that someone could be someone other than the person who met you when you drove up, and to whom you've handed $2.00
But since I do know Valets don't share tips, I 've gravitated to the $2.00 at drop-off and $2.00 at Pickup persuasion.

$5 in and $5 out, I know, its too much, but I used to work as a bellhop/carhop many years ago in college, but I also give the bellhop a $20 both in and out....unless its a short, weekend trip with just two or three bags, then a $10 will suffice.

My wife yells at me too, so go ahead, flame away.

$2 when we get the vehicle back.

I once saw someone tip when they dropped the car off. The fellow went into the Poly and I saw the CM he tipped hand the keys to another CM to park. I did not see him pass off the tip to the second CM.

Your wife yells because it's her money. We just say what a generous guy! :)

Of course, it does make the rest of us look cheap :teeth:

Your wife is right. These people would make over $100K per year if everyone did that. Two dollars at pick up only is a very good tip. They make a ton of money with that. I know because I did it.

When we stay at BWV, I tip $2 each way. We don't use valet that often, maybe 2 or 3 times per tip, depending on the weather and the self parking lot (if we can find a space  ). I figure the valet lot is a long way. I felt bad for them last month, our room was facing the driveway and they were running back and forth in the rain. If they give quick service, I don't mind tipping. One time last month it took a long time for someone to come over and writeup the claim check, I didn't tip that time (they weren't that busy). They probably do well with their tips, but their base salary is probably pretty low. At least they are doing more than the curbside skycaps at the airport, they really get alot for not doing much.

Keycaps are absurd. I drop my wife off at the airport, poll right up in front of the bagcheck, and have to tip someone to basically empty my trunk onto the conveyor belt. I give a buck when its that close and stupid.

I should start digging for nickels.

Richyams,

LOL---I just want to know if I could carry your bags...
