I was hoping someone could advise tipping the concierges. We will be staying at the GF in the Royal Palm. We are probably going need help with a few reservations, planning some activates for the kids and getting some stuff for the rooms.

Also we got an upgrade from the Sugar Loaf to Royal Palm thanks to one of the concierges so I would like to tip him, I am just not sure how much.

Thanks!

Short answer is that concierge CM's are not allowed to accept cash tips. If a guest is insistent, then they can take it, but must turn it over to management. Probably the best thing you could for anyone who goes out of their way to assist you, is write a letter to their manager. That could help tremendously during reviews and promotions.

I write letters as Tammi said and I also send gift baskets from Harry and David.

Yes, I was told directly from a CM at the concierge of the Contemporary last year that a letter is the best thing they anyone could do for them. It really helps come review and promotion time.

Last month when my parents and I were staying at the Atrium Club in the Contemporary, on our 1st night a brand new Cast Member got my mom a total of 18 Caffeine Free Diet Cokes which was sent to our room while we were not there. Anyway she wanted to thank her however we never saw her again. So instead we spoke to another Cast Member who knew my parents and I from our previous stays, so we told her how great this new Cast Member was and she told us she would give her the thank you message and also pass it along to WDW management so they could see that.

My understanding also is that the CM's cannot except cash tips. I have heard that they also can get fired, so we never want to jeopardize their jobs. I wish they were allowed to except tips because they do a fine job and really take care of us.

RPC CM's are remarkable!! We never want to travel any where else on the continent and always return to the GF RPC because of them!!:) They really deserve the best and I hope that they are all well taken care of.

If you give them money, they have to turn it in.....and then basically they never see a dime of it.:sad2:

A concierge CM told me that they can accept gifts valued at up to $75....now this was probably over a year ago, so maybe that has been upped. I have ordered baskets from Cookies by Design and other places and you don't get much for $75, but they don't KNOW the price. When I give gift cards, that $75 rule is what I follow.

I always write a note regarding our excellent stays at the GF and name the concierge CMs that added to the magic. :wizard:

Happy vacation. Nice upgrade.

1) As mentioned above, accepting tips is a termination offense.
2) Please do not tempt the Concierge with money.
3) Give them a gift of up to $75 in value.
4) Money has to be given to a manager, where gifts can be retained.

NOTE: Also, please mention good service to a manager. The CM will get a note card and an At-A-Boy in their file. It does not help for raises, since the position is covered under the union contract, but it "might" help when they apply/bid for other jobs.

Whenever I go on a vacation or cruise, I bring some items from my home state. I live in Vermont, we are known for maple syrup. I also bring/ or have mailed a few pints of syrup along with maple candies and such, so I can make a basket for whoever I see as giving me exceptional service. Also- instead of attaching a thank-you card, I usually use a postcard with a scenic picture of VT with my words of thanks on the back. Employees always seem to love that!!!
