Tipping is it really necessary??!!

Not the type of life I would want for myself:scared1:

Wow!! They make a thousand a week on tips plus free room and board and whatever DCL pays them. What a life!!!:yay: :yay: :yay:

There is no "free room and board". The small salary they are paid is almost taken back in full to pay for their room and board on the ship. The tips are pretty much their paycheck, and it can vary widely as seen by the responses in this thread alone.

Like I said, The amount DCL pays them is what they pay in room and board. They still get 50k+ from the tips they bring in each year.

Not a bad wage with room and board being paid for.

I had no idea that DCL servers were making 50 thousand a year with free room and board.

All the more reason to reduce their tip. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

You make little to no scene... Waiters in up scale(4-5 star restaurants )can make a 70k plus a year.

And that 50k is for 60-70 hours a week... week after week no family, no home..no real life at 50k divided by 60 hours a wek that equals $16.02 a hour.

As an aircraft mechanic I work a 40 our week, it is my choice if I want to work more hours at 1 1/2 or 2 times my hourly pay, holidays are 2x

Yes, and it is their choice to take a job with no family, no home, etc etc.

I don't think anyone should tip because they feel sorry for them and their situation. Cruises are not a philanthropic adventure.

I just wish this argument would die.

Ladies and gentlemen you were all warned a number of times on this thread but since the fighting continues it is time to close it.

Please remember in the future that it is fine to disagree with other posters but in doing so please keep your comments directed at the issue and not other posters.

Also keep in mind the DIS guidelines:

3. NO FIGHTING/SARCASM: While we'd like to think that a Disney fan site is always lighthearted, there are times when there are disagreements. Let's face it, there are certain topics that can transform any of us into a raging "Donald Duck." When you sense this is happening, we ask that you step away from the discussion before it escalates into a fight. Just like Mom always said about fighting, we don't care who started the argument and we don't want it on the DIS. (Okay, she didn't say the part about the DIS, but you know what we mean.) No attacking others and no sarcasm please. Either will result in an infraction.
