Tipping Info Thread for Disney Dining

I apologize if this is a duplicate question, but I got lost reading through this big long thread.

We have a party of 9. I know that we will automatically be charged 18% for a party of 6 or larger. Here's where my question comes in: We absolutely get to choose our method of payment on this, correct? I used my card to guarantee the reservations, but my Stepdad is paying for the trip including meals (well, sort of meals. We're on Free Dining). I'm not a cheapskate or anything, but we're saving for a long trip to WDW next year so we don't want to end up with any hidden expenses that we have not budgeted for. Ultimately, I guess it's not a huge thing as he'd probably pay us back if need be, but still. Simplest is best.

You do not have to pay with the card that you used to guarantee the reservation.

You will get more than one check at the end of the meal, typically one per room. You can pay any way you like

I apologize if this is a duplicate question...I had planned to pay tips with gift cards (since gift cards are 5% "discounted" at Target), but rather than keep track of gift card balances or risk losing them in the park...was thinking I could charge tips to our room (via Magic band), then pay our room balance with the gift cards. Any problem with doing that (or anyone have difficulty doing that)? Thanks!

Just be sure to put the GCs down as you go. Don't wait until checkout. Don't wait until the day before checkout. Check on charges often and put the GCs down as needed. They charge as you hit a certain dollar amount, or if you don't hit that dollar amount during your stay they charge the night BEFORE checkout, so go earlier rather than later.

I am sure that this has been answered many times before but I cannot not find the thread So anyway I am really lucky this year in that I will have over $600 disney rewards dollars and disney gift cards. I am on the DDP and I have paid off all of my vacation including room, DDP and park tickets. I would like to tip the people who clean my room, the waiters at WGP express and the waiters at Hoop dee Doo. Can I do any or all of it with gift cards? or should I use a charge card that is attached to my band and then pay it with my gift cards at the front desk? Is it possible to tip the hotel staff with a gift card and or charge card? I would like to be a little more generous than usual since I am really lucky to have extra money on my gift cards and I would like to pay it forward !

For your housekeeper and WPE, you would have to tip in cash since there isn't a way to tip them otherwise. HDDR is pre paid with grat included so I don't know if there is an additional tip line to add to it.

We are on the DDP, but will be in 2 separate rooms. When we pay, I assume we have to pay separately b/c of the credits being split between 2 rooms. Will the tip automatically be split as well, or can just one person tip for the whole table? We are a party of 7, so tip should be automatically added, I presume, but didn't know if it's split up?

Each bill, corresponding to the rooms/people. will show hte required gratuity. One person can choose to pay both bills, but htere will be two bills

Auto gratuity is for parties of 6 or more, including anyone w a pulse at the table

This may have been asked before but here it goes. IN the past we have always paid cash for our tips. I am reading that we can use disney gift cards. Just curious how the server gets their money. Or do they use these gift cards to have to buy mercandise.

It works just like tipping on a credit card - the server cashes out at the end of their shift.
