I'm considering trying out a spa treatment for the first time ever this trip. How do you handle tipping - how much, who do you give it to, when and how?
at the larger spas (ie the grand floridian spa & the saratoga springs spa) there is a 18% gratuity included in the price. so if you want to tip above that its optional. now the smaller healthclubs on property that offer spa treatments (ie the zahanti healthclub at the animal kingdom lodge & ship shape at the yacht club) dont include gratuity. so 15-20% is nice to give for a tip, depending on the treatment & how much i enjoyed it. you give the tip at the end of your session.
you can find out more info about the spas & services at http://www.relaxedyet.com we get a treatment every vacation its so relaxing. enjoy!

I hope this is incorrect b/c I've never seen, read or been told this by anyone and I go to the GF for a massage and pedicure all the time and always leave a 20% tip
DH & my massages at SSR in Sept did NOT include gratuity.
Gratuity envelopes are available at the check out desk for you to leave whatever you wish. If you forget names of who provided which service the staff will be more than happy to look them up for you. Since odds are you will be wearing a robe around the spa nobody expects you to have cash on hand.
I have never been to a spa. I have never had a massage. I would like to try, but am afraid I will feel uncomfortable. What would a good starter massage be for prude people? LOL
Just go for it! Professional massage therapists are very good at making you feel comfortable. They will drape you in towels/sheets so that only the necessary parts are exposed. They also should have you fill out a medical and informational form before you begin which will include questions about your previous massage experience.
Try a massage - you will not regret it! (BTW, I am not a massage therapist, but I do see one regularly!)
petchie No worries! I have met several women at the GF Spa over the past year or so (all ages, too!) who were getting a massage for the first time and were nervous. I always tell them to A) take everything off and B) Relax and ENJOY! I assure them it won't be there last massage.
As sara74 said, they will drape you and make you feel comfortable.
