Hello! We have never stayed DVC before but will be at BLT 9/13-9/20 for a DVC stay. I think I will get mouse keeping twice, right? Do you tip like you would in the normal resort rooms? Is yes, what amount would you tip?

Based on the many posts on the subject, everyone does their own thing.

Since Disney and the unions classify housekeeping as a non tipped position, I don't tip unless something exceptional happens, which it never has. If anything they should be paying me for the times we got dirty rooms or skipped cleanings.

Others will post that they love to tip.

Is your check out the 20th? If so that is only 7 nights? If that's correct then you get trash and towel on your 4th day (16th) only. If you are checking out on the 21th, then that is 8 nights and you would get a full cleaning on the 4th day (16th) and towel and trash on the 20th.

As for tipping, I generally only leave a couple of dollars on towel and trash since they pick up the old ones and take the trash and leave fresh towels. I leave more on full cleaning, since they change linens and clean bathroom. But mostly it depends on what size room too. I generally have a studio, but when I have a larger unit I leave more.

I tip like a normal room which means I don't tip at WDW because I only tip people in a tipped position and Disney housekeeping is not. I'm not aware of any timeshares in the UY that are and it's about 50/50 for hotels so I ask where applicable. All you will get for 7 nights is a trash and towel once, no full cleaning.

Since Disney and the unions classify housekeeping as a non tipped position.

State & Federal Labor Depts would also consider Disney housekeeping a non-tipped position since they are paid more than the FL & Federal minimum wage rates. Housekeeping wages at WDW start at $8.70/hour.

Wages for Tipped positions in Florida have a minimum cash wage starting at $4.91/hour and the employer must make up the difference if their tips average less than $3.02/hour. The regular minimum wage in FL is $7.93/hour.

Unfortunately if you are like us you will have to wait until you get there to see what you get.

I wish they'd allow you to go find whomever got our room ready and did (or didn't) do trash and towel or full cleaning correctly.

Stayed at BWV for 4 nights recently. Room was wonderfully stocked with 8 towel setups, soaps/shampoos/lotions etc. Paper supplies stocked, etc. T&T day everything restocked, towels put up, etc Left $25 for mousekeeping.

Transferred to OKW. Now whomever got our room ready should've been docked a days pay. We had 9 registered guests yet our room was set up with four sets of towels. Called mousekeeping for the additional and they wanted to charge us. Brought us them called the front desk to make sure we weren't charged.

My BIL and SIL and their DD were joining us for two nights and SIL came to me and said there was no toilet paper. We searched high and low but the only thing to be found was the partially used roll in the second bathroom. Six hours after getting into room they brought up three rolls.

Toaster handle broken, no tissues, two DW packs, no set up for the sofa or sleeper chair. Nothing replenished on T&T day, towels for four left on counter. They did not even put the new bags into the trash and recycling bins that the kids emptied that morning. Washed dishes by hand until dishsoap ran out. I could go on...

On check out day I found a mouse keeper and asked for a DW packet, they wanted to know what room number we were in. I told them it didn't matter I was trying to get the load started so the room was turned over quicker. Guy with her tried to hand me a handful of packets to "take home" as he said. I took one and told him to leave the rest in the room for the next guest.

I did not leave a penny.

As I posted, everyone has their own feelings about tipping but I just can't wrap my head around tipping someone because they did the job that they are paid to do.

Cleaning a room and stocking it with supplies is what our dues pay them to do. If they don't do their job correctly, they should be put on notice and we should get a dues credit.

Agreed and c/w what I posted above. However, when such a question comes up I normally qualify it by saying that if they do something extra I would generally tip depending on specifics and truthfully, they often do.

I tip because I choose to; I tip wherever we stay, hotel or DVC.
For DVC we usually opt out of T&T day because we have laptops set up for working mornings and we prefer not to have anyone in the room

For full cleaning days we tip as follows:
$5.00 for studio or 1 bedroom
$10.00 for 2 bedroom

We also leave the same on our check out day for the turnover of the room that's necessary.

To me there's not a right or wrong, it's just whatever you prefer doing.

I do like to tip, but I am not suggesting anybody else should. Since it is a non-tipping position, as others have said, I don't see an obligation. The reason I choose to do it is that our experiences have been overwhelmingly positive over the years, with consistent great service. Minimum wage, or even a little more, is not a whole lot to live on. I am on an expensive vacation with my family. Leaving a small amount of money for the people who help to make that vacation nice, and who probably don't make enough money to go on a vacation like that themselves, just seems like a kind gesture to me, so I do it. It doesn't cost me much financially, and it might make one of those workers feel good.

If I were a housekeeper would I be happy to find a tip acknowledging my hard work? Yes, it would make me feel valued. So I tip.

I wish they'd allow you to go find whomever got our room ready and did (or didn't) do trash and towel or full cleaning correctly.

Often our room has a card in the bathroom with the name of the housekeeper who prepared it. I call the housekeeping number and ask if that housekeeper can stop by our room for a tip. If there is no card, I call the number and ask who it was and ask to have that person stop by. The housekeepers are always so appreciative.

very well said:thumbsup2, I feel exactly the same way, it's a little token of kindness for a job well done.

Less than $9 in any state is not a livable wage. After taxes, they bring home less than $300 a week if they worked 40 hours. Most people on cash reservations pay this for 1 night.

I pay the following:
$3 a night for studio
$4 a night for 1 bedrooms
$5 a night for a 2 bedroom.

I usually talk to housekeeping and I am always asking for extras.

I agree I struggle with this as well

I agree that Disney and other employees aren't paid well but shouldn't the companies pay more and not have the employees rely on tips?

What about other employees, other CM's who work just as hard, some outside in the heat, some wearing hot uniforms or costumes, where is their tip?

Disney continues to break profit records but the housekeepers and others aren't paid a livable wage, doesn't make sense to me.

I have family members who are CMs. Any non-tipped position that receives one is suppose to turn them in to management for an end-of-the-year party.

When I emailed Member Satisfaction about whether housekeepers can keep tips, this is the reply I got:

Housekeepers work for Disney resorts not the DVC so DVC might not really know the policy. In addition, tipping/money/payroll is not a subject that Disney wants to talk about from a PR stand point so we may never know the policy.

This is exact same as us with exception of...our typical stays are 3-6 nights so we never get a full cleaning, just T&T and we opt out of that. So we leave $5 or $10 on check out day. I didn't realize that some hotel housekeepers were a tipped position and some were not (with DVC being not a tipped position). Now I won't be as hard pressed to find change to leave a $5 or a $10 on check out day (when usually our cash has dwindled).

Also note that "accept" is not the same as "keep." That was a very specifically written PR response that, on the surface, appears to answer the question, but doesn't really say anything at all.
