I didn’t realize that an 18% gratuity is added to drinks and spa services. Do you tip in addition to that?

Drinks, I'll usually add a dollar or so.

Spa...IF I do it, I always note on the intake form "NO PRODUCT SALES". If they honor that, I will add $5 or so. If they don't, they just get the 18%.

Can you elaborate on "no product sales"? Our first cruise is coming up and we're still trying to get as much figured out as possible beforehand.

Always add additional. The 18% is pooled, any additional you add goes directly to the person who served you. Never go to the Spa.

They are notorious for pushing the lotions and creams and oils and exfoliants or whatever kind of product they might have used on you. And it's a HARD sell.

Same. I will round up to whatever gets them to 25% if they honor the rules of engagement. To their credit, they have always honored my requests to skip the product push.

I experienced this on my first couple of cruises. Then I saw a tip on these boards to not select any areas of concern when they ask about it on the intake form (like aging, stress, etc) Once I stopped checking things off I noticed MUCH less pressure to buy anything, but I guess that could be a coincidence.

I do usually tip an extra $10 if the service was good.

We usually throw in an extra buck or 2 with our drinks. It's been a long time since we've done the spa and I cant remember what we did there.
