Do you still tip the normal 18-20% even when at a buffet? TIA

I do. Of course I don't go to buffets anywhere else but WDW.

Since I am using DDE I have to tip 18% anyway.

I tip about the same. The wait staff has to deal with taking away a lot of dirty dishes, plus they keep the drinks full.

Depends on the service but I normal tip 15% which is normal by all standard except Disney. So if the waitress keeps our drinks full and dishes cleared 15%. If she is friendly, gives out info, takes pics at a character meal etc... I would give more.

People like to say that a buffet warrants a smaller tip because the server does less. However, they still work hard clearing plates and bringing drink refills. Also they are not exactly well paid and it is not their fault they are working at a buffet. If the service is good tip them well.

I guess it won't matter, since we are a party of 6 and it'll be added on our bill automatically anyway. I wonder if they add 18% at buffets as well.

Generally speaking, I see my server more often at a buffet than I do for regular table service. Only one time have I had less than stellar service at a buffet. I did mention that to the manager before leaving.

I always tip 15%, so if 18-20% is what's being considered "normal" now, I guess I tip less than normal.

I tip 18-20% They still are waiting and have to keep you drinks full and keep plates cleared. To tell you the truth the only thing they do not do is take your order and bring you your food, everything else is the same. I think that since they are getting paid so little in pay the least I can do is give them what they deserve for their hard work.

We generally do 10-15% at buffet, 15-20% at sit down. We'll do more if there is stellar service, have only done less a very few times in my life for VERY poor service, but that was when my husband had the cash in HIS hand. He gets more offended easier than I do.

Servers can handle more tables at a buffet than when they have to spend 10 minutes taking your order and bringing you food. So if they get 18% at each table, they're actually making a lot more than their fellow servers at other restaurants. I would not feel so bad for them.

I tip whatever I feel the server deserves. We plan on 18% and go up or down from there.

On our last trip we had excellent service everywhere and tipped more than 18% at Biergarten, CP, 1900 PF, Boma and LTT (not realy a buffet, family style).

We tip 20% at buffets. However, I should note that the only buffets I have ever eaten at ARE at WDW. I have never eaten at a buffet restaurant anywhere else, so I'm not used to tipping less. In fact, it never even occured to me until I read this board, that you would tip less at a buffet.

I see a lot of responses that the wait staff is paid to little to start, but does anyone know that is a fact. Are they actually paid the same at a buffet as a regular full service restuarnat? Or is their base pay higher because most of the job involves busing tables?
