Tuesday 8th August
Today I woke up at 5:30am and couldnt get back to sleep so I got up and caught up with the trip reports, did a bit of surfing (the internet kind )and had a coffee while watching the sun rise. DD got up around half 7 and the boys got up around 8am. We had breakfast and set off for IOA. It was already a hot one - phew. We made our way up the I-4, which wasnt too bad and got to Universal just after 9am. We parked in Jurassic 302 and walked into IOA.
The boys headed off for The Hulk and DD & I had a chocolate croissant and a coffee (for me) at Croissant Moon. The boys were soon back and we make our way round to Spider Man. It was DSs first time riding it and despite some initial giving out about going on he really like it and they went on again. I waited for them in Toon Lagoon and then it was a change of shoes for the kids and on to the wet rides. First up was Duddly Do Right and they got soaked. Next was Popeyes Barges and I went on first while DH waited in the kid swap area. We started off and I had that smug grin of someone who knew that the people opposite were going to get a soaking as the splash zone was their side, but of course it didnt last. A few seconds later the barge span round and the water gushed in over the sides and I was sitting in the equivalent of a bath tub of water. It was a great ride and much wetter than Khali River Rapids. We squelched off and I swapped with DH who went on with the kids again. I am pleased to report that he got just as wet.
We wrung ourselves out as best we could but it was a pointless exercise. The kids went on Me Ship Olive and I tried to stand, legs akimbo in the sun (while also trying to look casual) to speed the drying process - it didnt work and my clothes were still slightly damp by the time we got back to the villa at 7pm. From Me Ship we went to the Jurassic Park area and DD went to her favorite area of IOA - the splash zone by the Jurassic Park ride.
She spent about 45 minutes here having a great time and laughing every time some one unsuspecting got a soaking. While she was getting wet we had some chicken and sweet corn which was nice. DD didnt want to come inside so DH bravely took her lunch outside and promptly got soaked himself. DS and I tried not to laugh too much. Next up was the Jurassic play area and DS and DD went off together with the radio. They played for about 20 minutes and when they came out DD had a frozen lemonade, which she managed to drop most of after a couple of minutes.
DS wanted to go on Fire and Ice so DD and I sat in the shade while we waited. She had a frozen cherry drink and this time didnt drop any. DS did fire first then he & DH waited for the front row of Ice. Unfortunately the ride experienced some technical difficulties while they were waiting and they had to bring on two new dragons. This involves electronically removing two sections of the track, which slides sideways to allow another dragon to move on to this piece of track. It then all slides back into place and hey presto you have one extra Fire and one extra Ice on the tracks. DS got on the front row of the new Ice Dragon and he said the ride was fantastic and wants to do the front of Fire next time.
Meanwhile back at the ranch - DD had finished her hyperactive inducing red drink and was getting bored waiting. When the boys got back DD & I blew the spider webs away and set off for Seusse Land. Once in this Technicolor land we went for the new sky ride - it was fairly fun but fairly lame at the same time and I wouldnt bother again. The kids were itching to get over to the Studios to get wet again in Curious Georges play area so after one quick go on Cat in the Hat we set off for the long hot walk over to the back of the Studios.
We split up and I went to get DH & I a Starbucks coffee. It was a long trudge to where the others were but at least in this heat the coffee didnt get cold on the way. DH & I sat and drank the much needed coffee while the kids got wetter and wetter.
They loved the buckets that dropped a couple of hundred gallons of water on the waiting crowd below and the came running out of where ever they were playing as soon as they heard the bell which meant another soaking was immanent.
We dragged them out an hour later - by now they were both very tired and both had major meltdowns. There was non stop grumbling on the walk back to the car and that was just DH & I
but we made it to Sweet Tomatoes without an international incident. We loaded up with the lovely salad, a there was a plate of shredded carrots for DS and nothing for DD as she was getting ready to break the world pizza eating championships. She didnt quiet manage it but the manager was thinking about calling the Guinness book of records at one stage.
I went and ordered DSs 4 bowls of pasta and received the usual funny looks from the other diners when I carried them back to the table. I didnt worry as I know it is the only thing he will eat and as it has to be cooked fresh it is easier to get 4 bowls in one go than to go back up a few times. DS managed to drop a full glass of coke right near the coke machine and they didnt look too pleased with him. He also managed to drop his spoon of chocolate sprinkles as he was putting it on his ice-cream and there were sprinkles everywhere. Some poor server had the job of clearing them up and it took ages. We left Sweet Tomato before we were thrown out and made our way back to the villa. The kids went swimming and DH & I collapsed on the sofa from exhaustion. Give it a few more years and we will be hiring those electric carts to get us round the parks
We chilled and watched some TV before staggering into bed around half 9.
