At the opening of the Bologna International Children's Book Fair, Disney Publishing Worldwide announced its plans to introduce an illustrated children's novel, Fairy Dust and the Quest for the Egg, which takes readers into the world of one the most famous fairies of all time, Tinker Bell.

This modern fairy tale is being penned by Newbery Honor winner and the best-selling author of Ella Enchanted, Gail Carson Levine, and has taken inspiration from J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan. Fairy Dust and the Quest for the Egg will introduce readers to Tinker Bell's home, Fairy Haven, and her fairy friends.

Disney Publishing Worldwide states that the book will serve as the literary cornerstone for Disney Fairies, a new collection of stories aimed at young girls, supported by a one million dollar marketing budget. This is the Publisher's largest simultaneous global book launch, with the novel expected to hit stores this Autumn in more than 40 countries worldwide.

At first my crap detector was going off, but Levine's involvement allows me to be hopeful. The market is huge for quality young adult lit, and fantasy is especially hot, of course. What the world doesn't need is another brand for plush.

Looks like Anne Hathaway will have another movie to star in. If Ella is any indication, I think the book will be wonderfully written...
