Tims Hortons open at EPTCOT

Do American's know what a 'double-double' is? :goodvibes

Actually if you stop at the Timmies just south of Dayton Ohio on teh I 75 they know what it is as this is a corporate store so teh staff come to Oakville to train so they learn early on what a double double is and know you are Canadian when ordering LOL.

We can only wish......
good one

Nice little photoshop job there!

Related to the Timmy's at the Canada Pavillion is something that I've mentioned to a few people before - although not here on the DIS.

Aside from a Timmy's at the Canada Pavillion, I've always kind of thought that there should be a CS restaurant there too - sure, the current Tim Horton's are more CS restaurant-like than years ago - but I honestly think that there should be a Harvey's there.

Now, I'll admit that Harvey's is not nearly as iconic of Canadiana as Timmys, but my rationale for thinking a Harvey's would fit is this...

Harvey's has Poutine.

Okay, I know that a lot of people hate Poutine - but it has a certain Canadian (admittedly, primarily French Canadian) connection.

I'm pretty sure that it will never happen - I think there's a greater chance of a Tim's going there before any other Canadian food joint - but I still think it would be kind of cool.

What do you mean photoshop? It's an actual image. :rolleyes1

As far as a counter service restaurant I suggest La Belle Province from Quebec.
If we're going to offer poutine is should at least be authentic. Steamies are great too and Montreal style submarine sandwiches.

we're lucky enough to have authentic steamies just a few blocs away ~ I'm trying not to look at the poutine, it's my weakness

Please provide name, address of the aforementioned establishment. Do they have real Quebec style coleslaw on the steamies?

Nest time out east I'll need to try some of their fare.

Hi there is a place in Oshawa at 36 simcoe st and bond tel 905 404-8282. They sell steamies and fries. It's only alittle place but the owner(Wes) has it down pretty good. He's got all the dressings cabbage etc for the steamies. It's quite close to Lafleurs or the others in Montreal.I grew up in Montreal so I crave a steamie once in a while. This is the closest I can find. I go there from Mississauga .Hope this helps.P.S. its called Montreal fries and steamies .

! my husband says we didn't try the coleslaw but they had the big pickle!
OMG! just posting that cracks me up

The Montreal Dellticatessen is on the north side of Dundas about a km west of the 427.

Some of the best smoked meat in the city. My favorite is the smoked meat pizza.

Back in the early days of this millennium there was a steamie joint called Steam City at Winston Churchill and Dudnas in Oakville it was just like a La Belle Province. Alas it only survived here less than 2 years

That is the place! We've only tried the sandwiches so far. It's funny that when we went to Montreal in September we didn't try bagels or steamies. Guess we ran out of time. Have you ever been to Le Jardin Nelson in olde Montreal?

OK, uninformed Western Canadian here, but what is a steamie??

And to reuse Ham Ham's picture

mmmmmmmmm poouutinne!!!!

This is from restaurantica.ca -
While to many, "steamed hot dogs" may seem irrelevant in the culinary world, to others, specifically Québécois/Montréalers, they hold a permanent, special place on our list of comfort foods and occasional must-eats.

The image below is real poutine. French fries, Kingsey cheese kurds, poutine sauce and a styrofoam container.

The hot dog in the lower left hand corner has be steamed as has the bun.
Choice of garnishes mustard, ketchep, relish, raw onions and salade de chou usually refeered t as chou (shoe), Quebecois for cole slaw.

An all dressed steamie is uaually mustard, relish, onions and chou.
Some folks ask do I mean sour kraut? No, chou isn't' soaked for as long as sour kraut and as opposed to most Canadian cole slaw it contains only cabbage, vinergar, salt & sugar. No creamy stuff or onions or carrots.

Myself, I like a steamie with mustard and extra chou.

Also in Quebec there is a toastee. A toastee in fried hot dog with a flattened grilled bun. Garnished with the same condiments as a steamie.
