OK, uninformed Western Canadian here, but what is a steamie??
And to reuse Ham Ham's picture
mmmmmmmmm poouutinne!!!!
The image below is real poutine. French fries, Kingsey cheese kurds, poutine sauce and a styrofoam container.
The hot dog in the lower left hand corner has be steamed as has the bun.
Choice of garnishes mustard, ketchep, relish, raw onions and salade de chou usually refeered t as chou (shoe), Quebecois for cole slaw.
An all dressed steamie is uaually mustard, relish, onions and chou.
Some folks ask do I mean sour kraut? No, chou isn't' soaked for as long as sour kraut and as opposed to most Canadian cole slaw it contains only cabbage, vinergar, salt & sugar. No creamy stuff or onions or carrots.
Myself, I like a steamie with mustard and extra chou.
Also in Quebec there is a toastee. A toastee in fried hot dog with a flattened grilled bun. Garnished with the same condiments as a steamie.
