We just got back Sunday from 2 weeks at WDW. We had heard about the Wild about safety program so asked about the safety cards, but most cast members were clueless about them until the end of our trip.
We did find the Wild About Safety yellow round pin on cast lanyards - it's a nice pin to trade for. We didn't see a ton of them, but about 5 or 6 the whole trip.
We saw a cast member last week sometime at Tough to be a Bug at AK handing out cards so we asked for one. We finally noticed brochures on the Wild about Safety at Typhoon Lagoon last Thursday, July 10. So we asked about the safety cards and were given one. Later at MGM that night we found the brochures at Guest Relations. We were able to get 6 different cards out of 12 by asking the cast members about them at attractions at all parks (some cast members said they were just at MK or AK, but they were at all including water parks).
All but one cast member was glad to give them out when we asked, and the encouraged us to find them all to collect the whole set of 12. The cast member at Splash Mountain said they weren't allowed to give them out to anyone who just asked and they were saved for magical moments. Well in my opinion I think they should give them out willingly otherwise what's the point of the program if no one knows about. When we asked about the cards at Rock-n-roller coaster the cast member said they handed them all out in the morning, but the over at Tower they still had a whole stack left and said they hadn't given any out all day. So I don't know what the policy is on giving them out.
I went on the site mentioned above and noticed it had other things that were supposed to be out but we didn't see any other pins but the round one. We didn't see any activity books or kid's menus.
The safety program seems like it should be neat, but I think Disney needs to try harder to get it out there otherwise I don't think most guests even knew about it (besides the 4 tips in the park maps). What's the point of it if no one knows about it, but maybe it's just getting under way.
Hope this helps anyone going soon who wants to collect any of the safety items.
