Timing of dinners at AP

Hi, I'm curious about the timing of both the Crush show and the magic animation show at AP.

Does Crush show up right away or mid-way during dinner? Or, does he appear throughout the entire dinner?

For the magic animation show, when do they start showing the animated drawings? Do they usually wait until they start serving dessert?

Reason I ask is that I want our son to experience both but I'm not sure how long he will last before he gets bored and will want to leave early. I want to say I'm hoping he can tolerate one hour's worth of sitting. Is it safe to say that Crush and the magic show will happen within the first hour? If not, I can at least prep him that there will be a long wait.

TIA

There are 2 different kind of shows. On the dream and fantasy you get crush. He appears after you order and hangs around for a lot of the meal. On the classic ships you get the show where it's black and white and turns colour as you eat. You draw on a placemat and your drawing appears on screen. They time it so it's colour by dessert and then everyone gets up and limbo dances with fantasia Mickey. The dining rooms look alike on all the ships but it's the shows that are different.

We had the animation (placemat ) show on the Dream class ships only, on 7-nt second time in AP ( Crush show was the first time we dined there). On the Classic ships, we only had the servers' clothing /dining room changing color. Did the classic ships add the animation show? Side note, it seemed a very long wait on the Fantasy to see our own animation, we were literally walking backwards out the door viewing it, it took that long, and we really wanted to leave.

On the Fantasy 7 night sailings we have been on this is what happens:
Crush is the first night that you are in AP, he shows up and talks to different folks who happen to be sitting by the screen and under the camera. He will ask questions like, name, where are they from, how do they say hi to folks where they come from etc. In between these chats, there is Dory who is encouraging folks to figure out what designs tiny fish are making on the screens. Typically, it is ended with a learning to dance and groove Crush style. Righteous, Awesome Dude! :)
The Magic Animation show is typically the last night you will dine in AP. First you will be asked to draw within the blue lines of your placemat with provided markers.Your serving team will take the completed placemats and give them to the Entertainment director who will take them backstage to organize. You will be given a menu with limited options (but very good ones) and asked to order your complete dinner including dessert. This is so that the show is not interrupted once it gets started. There is a rousing rendition of "Be our Guest" while you are dining as well as some awesome tunes from various Disney classics. Then it is show time where you will see your art come to life to the tune of "Never Had a Friend Like Me"
You will be given your placemats to take home with you as a memento of this fun interaction. :)

To clarify, the Dream only has Crush. The animation comes around to talk off and on through dinner after the servers get the order so taken. At the end of the meal, there is kind of a dance lesson.

The Fantasy has both the Crush show as explains above and, on the second night you are in AP that is not a special night (or Pirate or SWDAS), the drawn to animation show. For that one you'll draw on a placemat and your drawing will be animated. The animations happen during/after dessert. We did not find they were particularly slow to begin, but we also don't rush meals and are content to go with the pretty standard pace of the meal.

I haven't been on the classics yet, so I cannot comment on those.

From what I have read both the classics have added the placemat animation, it occurs the second night in AP. First night in AP is still the black and white to pictures and Sorcerer Mickey.

Yes...that's right. After the magic and wonder had their dry dock they came back with the placemat show.
