Timing ? for RCI owners

A friend has given us a guest certificate for her RCI timeshare. I tried to book April 2005 school vacation at the Vistana, and was told it was unavailable. Am I trying to book too early? Is there a certain period of time when owners have to tell RCI whether or not they are using their units?

Even though I'm very familiar with RCI, I don't really understand your question. Does your friend own with Vistana and you are trying to reserve a particular date there? If so, then she/he ought to be able to tell you when you are able to make this request for a floating week.

Does your friend have a bonus certificate for an extra week through RCI? If so, check the restrictions... usually these may not be booked until a year ahead or less. Some are restricted to last minute travel only (45-60 days ahead or less). Some are only good for surplus weeks and offseason travel until the last minute. If you are trying for a popular spring break week, it wouldn't qualify, if the bonus time is restricted.

If you are just trying for a regular exchange, it's pretty common for people to deposit about a year ahead. So keep trying, daily if you can. It's a huge resort and RCI gets lots of inventory from them. If you are able to make an "ongoing search" request, a match to Vistana is not usually that hard to get, especially a year+ out. Orbit One has 2BRs available for check-in every weekend in April '05, beginning with Apr 9th. But Vistana and other resorts that offer more for families will be available soon. Hope you get what you're seeking!

Thanks for the info. I am making just a regular exchange. Since it is our April School Vacation, I wanted to make sure that I booked well in advance...too much so, I guess, LOL ! I'll continue to check back with RCI.

I booked over a year for this year's thanksgiving at Sheraton's Vistana - and I have already booked next year July 4 at Orange Lake - so you are probably late.

I would not limit it to one - there are several great timeshare in Orlando - Hilton, Sheratons, Orange Lake, some of the Marriotts are on RCI - they are listed as Royal Palms (1699). Sabal Palms (1276), Cypress Harbour (2619) - they can't use the Marriott name on RCI - but they are Marriott. Embassy Vacation Resort at Grand beach.

We have been involved with timeshare exchanges now for 8 years, sometimes it just depends on the home resort that is owned. We get excellent trading power with our home resort and manage to always exchange into Orlando for the Canadian March break without any problems . This year we were able to land March Break week at Summer Bay resort in less than 5 months, without an ongoing search this was instant online trade. Last year we traded into Vistana Villages March break in less than 8 months as well as Silver Lake again without ongoing searches.

Many factors come into play when requesting exchanges i.e. how long in advance the home resort week was banked, trading power of home resort, etc.

Also make sure that your friend owns red time or else you cannot trade for red time.

If all of the above is favorable to your friends, you should have not problem getting an instant exchange when you want, just check about 10-15 times a days if necessary, keep bugging RCI.

Lawgs this can be true, we never deposit our week until about 5 months before it starts and we still get amazing trade. We own in Quebec and own red time in a gold crown resort. That is why we never settle for anything less than gold crown we shouldn't have too.
