Time to remove Indy speedway

I've been saying this for years, years I tell ya! IMO, it is no different that an off the shelf, spinner type, or crazy mouse. The same ones that people complain about in Dinoland. Something you can find in any old amusement park.

If you take a look at it on Google maps you can see how much acreage it takes up in Tomorrowland. There would be room for a real E ticket attraction if they took it out.

Face it, Tomorrowland is not in great shape as it is. SGE needs to leave now, Laugh Floor hardly ever has a line, same with COP. The only two attractions with much pull are Space and Buzz, and Buzz is in baaaaaddd shape. The speedway has lines because it appeals to kids and there isn't much else great over there for them to ride.

I enjoy Carousel of Progress; makes me think of Walt. I agree with everything else you said.

I love COP as well.

As for the speedway, I would love to see it rehabbed. Put in electric cars and add a lot more trees. Make in more environmentally friendly. And for love of Disney put shade in the waiting area.

Coming soon to WDW: Mickeys Speedway!

Do you love go-karts? This is the place for you, 6 tracks for the speed loving child or the child at heart!

For the nostalgic we have exact replicas of autotopia and the recently demolished Indy Speedway. Ride these classic tracks over and over!

Of course there will be a radiator springs track, and for you future lovers a tron themed electric car track.

Do you miss toon town? Of course you do! This track takes you past mickey and all of his friends.

Finally we have the track of lost attractions! Squeal your tires as you pass by tributes to Disney classics such as maelstrom, 20,000 leagues, mr. Toad, and others!

Also coming soon, something amazing and unique at MK, what is it? I have no clue but some will think it's awesome and others think Disney is going downhill and its the worst thing ever. Also ticket prices will rise and the middle class will no longer be able to come.

(I hope no one takes this too seriously)

I freakin' hate the Speedway...with a passion. As a kid I was incredibly disappointed when I rode it and every kid that I have ever been on there with hates it. My daughter hated it. My nephew hates it and dear lord the fumes. The smog is like Mexico City in 1987 walking by there. They really need to reimagine that attraction into something interesting and potentially green.

everytime I walk by it I shake my head. Does not belong, no nostalgia, no movie or character tie in. Feels like it belongs at a six flags.

Anyone willing to defend it?

My daughter and DH both love the speedway. :)

Kids love it. I hate it. The smell gives me an awful headache just walking by it. That in combination with cervical sprain from riding along as my 8 year old drives is enough to warrant bed rest afterwards.

I'd be OK with it leaving.

It's not even on my radar. I try hard to do "everything" on every trip, and the speedway doesn't even exist to me. I am VERY resistant to change in "my" parks. (Can we talk about how I'm still not over Delta Dreamflight??) But if they got rid of it, I couldn't care less. It would be nice if they could spruce it up a little, or do something Cars related.

I will never get over Delta Dreamflight... I was only 7 when it closed, but I was obsessed with it for years! I used to drag my dad on this multiple times!

Here's information that kind of puts this attraction in "Disney perspective."

I'd love to see it go and didn't like it as a kid either. I had access to faster go-carts at home and 2 amusement parks close to home with pretty similar rides before I was old enough for the go-carts. That ride is just lazy in my opinion and sits on land that can be used for much better attractions.

That being said I don't see it going anywhere because it has long lines and eats up capacity during busy times at the world.

My 8 and 10 year olds really disliked this attraction. I wish they would revamp it to something more fun and less smelly.

My daughter really likes it and we have to do it multiple times every trip. I remember it as a kid as I really enjoyed it. Could it be re-themed and possibly made electric, sure but it is such a classic and should not go away. There is nothing wrong with a little "race car" pipe noise and the smell of exhaust in fact there is a large portion of the USA that loves loud pipes and the smell of exhaust.

I've taken this into serious consideration and have decided it's brilliant. I want the scene where the queen turns around from the mirror from Snow White too. And some empty space JUST IN CASE we lose the Muppets.
;)

Yes re-theme to Cars land. Wait a minute, I seem to remember the cars vehicles running on gasoline not electric.

I think those clamoring for a shift to electric cars at the speedway are only doing so because they know it will cause a slow death. No kid wants to drive an electric car, even one that talks to them.

The Speedway needs some updating, but please stop trying to ruin a classic by pushing your coal plant generated electric cars. Let's stop trying to pretend that eliminating a few dozen lawn mower engines will make a difference when the plane you flew down in absolutely dwarfed the speedway in noise and emissions. You are killing the fun.

Now if you wanted to use the magic bands to allow the kids to request a certain car, greet them by name in the car, play their pre-selected Disney tune while driving, perhaps store the statistics of their drive similar to test track (including collision force when they bump the car in front complete with video replay of the whiplash) then we might be getting somewhere. Setting all this up gives them something to do while waiting in line for their customized GASOLINE powered car.

I just don't see the charm in those fumes when you walk and stand by Speedway. I don't drive an electric car but I drove a friend's Prius. I didn't feel as those I was missing out on something. I don't think that most children would know the difference between an electric car and gasoline driven one.

I think the 'stinky' and 'fumes' complaints are way overblown and yes kids would notice the difference, especially boys. Besides all that noise helps mask the clank when you ram the car in front of you.

My girls love the ride. It's a must do for us even under the hot August sun.

However, I would not say no if it means an upgrade to Cars Land. :cutie:

Sure it's loud and smells like the pit at Talladega...but the real problem is having the skin flayed off my butt everytime i sit in those awful cars. Seriously, who thought black pleather seats in the Florida sun was a good idea?

No need to throw the baby out with the bath water. A simple retheming to Tron, if it's going to stay in tomorrow land, or to cars or sugar rush if they want to incorporate it into fantasy land would solve things...along with a redesign of those cars.
