Time to DOUBLE up!! 2 for 1 Pre-TR!!!!!!! TRIP REPORT HAS STARTED!!!!!!!

When we told DH's mom (Gma that accompanied us on this trip), she had a similar reaction. Nothing. No criticism, but certainly no enthusiasm either. It was just another Disney trip for her.Having been on these boards for several months, I knew that a Wish Trip was WAY different than any typical Disney vacation.

Several of my friends asked "Didn't you just go to Disney last year? I'll bet you wish she had wished for something else." Nope, no way, definitely not. But the best was Grandpa's reaction of "if you wanted to go to Disney again, I would have given it to you for your Christmas present." God love him, but he likes to solve situations by throwing money at it.

Most of them realize now, whether it be due to my lengthy raving about what an amazing time we had, viewing the photos on Facebook or in my photo album, or reading my trip report, that this wasn't any ordinary, everyday trip to Disneyworld.

My guess would be that Grandma doesn't completely understand what a "Wish" entails like you and I do from reading past Wish Trip Reports. She doesn't understand that you can't buy the magic and pixie dust a Wish child receives. Give her time, she'll come around!
With reading all the wish TRs and following on the WISH trippers thread, I think a WDW Wish trip would be awesome for her. She still 'believes' and there is nothing I'd want for her more than to experience GKTW and to be 'pampered' a little more than normal.

I really hope you are right about my mom coming around. We'll see what happens. :confused3

1) LOVE that Jul. chose CBR. I think you'll all really love it there- well, ok, I"ve never seen it, but it does look great!! Very fun- fun colors, theming, BGM, everything, including pirate rooms!

2) Hope you can score a super cheap deal with a car!

3) Congrats on paying the house off! That must be a terrific feeling!

4) Hmmmm.... cakes. Can't help you AT ALL there! Would love to see what you choose though when you choose.
1) I hope we like it as much as we liked CSR.. There was nothing like those renovated rooms.
2) My eyes are peeled!!! Priceline is my friend!
3) It is great knowing that it is paid off. Now time to think about how we are going to pay for all these character meals. LOL
4) I've gone to some friends of yours for help! ;);)

I've got a lot to catch up on, but real quick.............Woohoo for getting the rental house balance paid! That's too funny about Ana and the Pirate room. I've been considering one for our next trip, so I'm looking forward to reading your review! Cakes....having had no experience, I have no advice. Sorry! But I'll be ordering one for DS's bday on our next trip, so I'm going to have to check out the Cake Chatter thread now.:teleport:
It does make the trip a little more real knowing that is paid off. Kind weird thought that we are paying under $600 for 8 days in a house and $313 for 2 nights at CBR. It is crazy huh?:confused3

I'll let you know about a pirate room. I'm sure I'll be writing a TR after this one!!! :lmao:

I'll post any cake info I find here. I'm looking for something special.:)
Here's this page about birthdays and stuff. Scroll down to find the section about cakes:

Thanks for the info Tink. I am working on something really special without Mel or Juliana knowing. I will post what I find.:goodvibes

Did you see this Cinderella cake? It's pretty cool. Maybe not quite what you're looking for, though. ;)

Julia-
I've seen a pic or 2 of that cake before but just from the top. I never noticed the sides. That is awesome! I really don't like the flowers, the egg, or the plate on top. But maybe this is a good starting point! Thanks for posting it! :goodvibes:goodvibes

Hopefully this is ok to do but I'm gonna copy and paste the pics here but only for a day or 2 then I will take them down.

DD's birthday cake from May 2008.

It took quite a few phone calls and hours to finally connect with someone who understood what I wanted and agree to get the cake made. I was finally able to order the cake through the BW bakery but it was transfered to the CR bakery as it is closer to MK and CRT.

Cake: 10" vanilla with strawberry custard filling, rolled fondant with image transfers on the sides, flowers and plaque were provided, egg topper was provided by us.
Made by: CR bakery
Delivered to: CRT (for breakfast)
Cost: IIFR $95 ($45 for cake, $30 for images, bal is tax and 18% grat)

I had very definate ideas for the cake. I sent drawings of my ideas and pix of the topper, complete with measurements and weight so they made the space sturdy enough to support it. This is the drawing I sent:

This was scrumptious and more than enough for 7 people over two meals. We gave away at least 1/3rd of the cake.

Great updates. I hope the Wish Granters put your mind at ease. Good luck with the cake!

I agree, the sides are awesome!

My thoughts exactly. :thumbsup2 I thought the sides were really neat, though!
This cake was $95 in 2008. I wonder what it would cost me now? I'd probably have to sign my mortgage payment over to get it. LOL

We will see what happens with the wish granters. We are only 1 week away!!!

They are! I'm not sure I'm prepared to take the steps to order something like that! LOL

This morning I was in the middle of posting my comments on the cake when my power crapped out.

Here's my take on the cake. Sides are cool- egg is weird. But honestly, I like the plate and flowers. What if you did like a teacup alongside the plate, and let her order a real cup of tea to go along with the theming?

You need to get a battery backup for that computer of yours. Although it is probably a little later for that now. LOL

I was thinking that since the sides are smooth maybe the top should just have frosting and writing on it? Although if there was a tea cup on there she would probably get a kick out of using it to drink out of. But we will also be with 2 other kids and I'm not sure if that will start problems if Juliana gets a teacup to drink out of and the other 2 don't. :confused3

I think the egg was provided by the lady ordering the cake.

:scared1: $95. Oh my gosh.

Tell me about it. :sad2: I'm gonna see what else I can come up with then call the GF bakery and hopefully I can get a reasonable price on something. The crazy thing is I am willing to spend up to $100.. any more than that is crazy. ($100 is too though!)

Yeah, you might have a problem there if the other kids get jealous. Cute idea about the teacup, though!

Isn't it nuts how expensive cakes are?? Even when you're not at Disney World, they can be outrageous.

Time to pimp out a TR. :joker:

I'm not sure if you remember, but when we went to WDW this October, Julia (Mommy2LittleVols) left us 3 bags of goodies? Well she had decided to start a TR. If you would like to follow her the link is --> http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2365478

This TR has been officially PIMPED. ;)

Thanks for being my pimp! :lmao:

While I get to go to work tonight for a 2 hour job (which takes a total of 5+ hours from the time I leave till I get back), Melody, her mom, and Juliana are going to Hartford to see the Disney Princesses on ICE show! I guess I will sit this one out. I told Mel to take lots of pictures!!!

I booked 'Ohana for Sunday 3/14 for dinner. We might or might not be making this ADR because I'm not positive of our Sunday plans yet. We have to check out of the house, check into CBR, and probably meet up with her cousin & family. I don't think we will be going to a park on Sunday. I'm hoping we will be able to make this!

That stinks that you have to miss Princesses on ICE! Looking forward to seeing Mel's pictures, though. :thumbsup2 Sounds like your Sunday will be pretty packed. I hope you make time for dinner!

Sorry about the work schedule. Isn't it cold and snowy out there. I'm watching the BC vs BU hockey game at Fenway on the NHL network now.

Are you the one that convinced me that I had to go to Kona for Tonga?

I got home a little while ago and it sounds like the girls had a great time! I'll get some pics up within the next few days.

It is cold but not snowing... anymore! LOL We got about 2 inches early this morning. It is about to get really cold for a few days.. about 22 for a high and 0 to 10 for lows.

I think I was the one that 'suggested' Kona to you. Hummm did someone else talk you out of it? :confused3
