Hi everyone. Not sure if this is the place to post this, so feel free to move if it is not.

I was just wondering if anyone has ever done one of those time share vacation packages and what their experience has been with it. I'm not takling DVC, you know the ones that say 4 nights 2 bedroom villa with 2 free Disney passes etc. and all you have to do is attend a 90 min presentation. I know there is usually some strings attahched but for a quicky vaca it seems ok? I know time is valuable but 90 mins of torture for a little extra trip to Disney seems worth it.

I have never done a time share tour of any kind so I was hoping someone could give me some insight.

Thanks!!

we did one a few years ago, no problem and was nice, just don't fall for the sales pitch :)

Depends on who its with. If its a Marriott, I would do another one in a heartbeat. They were very easy to work with and we have done a couple of them. I have heard Westgate is really a killer, but we have never done one so I don't know first hand.

Most timeshares will state a 90 minute requirement to get whatever they are offering

However... When you get there you will be invited to go into a lounge for snacks, coffee, etc.

When you are finally taken to the salesperson is when the clock starts. You will be invited, after a movie or something, to tour the property. Ths will be in a golf cart. You will be far from the sales office when the 90 minutes is up.

Once you get back you will still have more to go through, possibly a "manager" coming in to offer a better deal than the original salesperson.

Actual total time from arrival to departure will be closer to 2.5 hours rather than 90 minutes. Add in travel time both ways and how much time will you be spending?

Calculate your vacation time and hourly cost.

Take the total number of hours from the time you leave home until the time you return. Then subtract out the time sleeping or otherwise spent in your room. This gives you actual vacation time in hours.

Then take the total cost of your trip, transportation, tickets, lodging, meals, etc. Divide this by the number of hours. This gives you a cost per hour for your actual vacation time.

Now look at what you are getting, and consider how much it is really costing you.

BTW, almost any Disney ticket you get from a timeshare promotion (especially if you get a voucher) is NOT upgradeable; I know this as I am involved in selling tickets at WDW.

Just know that the 90 minutes is likely to turn into 3 hours by the time you're done. Take the earliest appt. and you mayt get done quicker. They usually will offer you breakfast or dinner as well, during which time they will be talking to you and that time does not count towards the 90 minutes. I went to get 2 tickets to Blue Man Group when we were there a few weeks ago. We went to the Westgate one, and it wasn't too bad. I did laugh at how the timeshare that was $34,000 at the beginning of our talk was suddenly down to $17,000 and in the end was $7,000:lmao: I did not bite, and finally just told the guy I just wanted my tickets, that I could not afford to buy.

They will try to convince you that you can't afford NOT to buy. Just don't bring your checkbook in. Bring a credit card that is maxed out or closed; then there is no temptation. Also, if you are staying somewhere other than the resort you are touring, drive yourself. If they are driving you, you are at their mercy to get back to your vacation.

I may do another presentation one day, who knows? We were looking at a rainy morning and I didn't have the extra for BMG tickets, so it worked out fine.
