We are having tiles put down in our living room and hallway next week. We have a small spare bathroom that is off of the hallway. We have had bare concrete floors in there for several years since we had pulled up the flooring in there years ago due to keeping our 2 dogs in the spare bathroom. Due to money and budgeting issues we plan to redo the spare bathroom with new commode & bathroom cabinets in about 3 years. We just can't afford to redo the spare bathroom now. Since the bathroom is small, we do have the money to have the bathroom floor tiled.

Since the floor guy is going to be putting down tile in the hallway and living room, would it be best to have him put the flooring in the spare bathroom also? Does the commode have to be pulled up to have tile put down? I just don't know what to do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :)

If you are planning on the same tile for the bathroom which it sounds like you are since they are flow together? I would tile the bathroom floor now if you can if not be sure to buy enough tile and store it until you can afford to do the bathroom. In three years it may be discontinued? You should take the toilet up if your are tilng but that is not a big deal, new wax ring. If you are tiling around cabinets to be replaced later just tile around them but have extra for when you do your remodel so you can fix up any areas that need be. Good luck :)

Are you planning to do a pedastal sink in the future? If so, you'd have to remove the cabinet and tile underneath it.

Might be better just to store the extra tile until then. Talk to your tile guy and see what he says.

Also, if you don't tile now, ask what the transition would look like---there may (probably will) be a height difference.

Lowes and home depot have vinyl tiles that you peel and stick, and then grout between so they look like ceramic tile but way cheaper and way easier. Check them out, we put them in a bedroom (my husband's home office) and people don't even realize its not tile.
