Tiki Room

Thank god it is still the same, it was last August anyway.

I can't find mention of it at the moment, but I thought I read that a couple years ago for the 50th anniversary, the original DL show was restored. They kept the original music, story etc. All that was done was the audio-anamatronics were upgraded to newer technology (There is a lot less clicking sounds than I remember hearing as a kid), a beter audio system and improved special effects. Essentially, it's the same show that's always been at DL and I can only believe that it will not change at DL for some time.

The MK version is the one that was 'Modified' into the under new management version and although I've not seen it myself in person, the you tube video is enough to make me not want to. The Tokyo DL version is the
Stitch one and although it's not as good as the original DL one, it looks way better than the MK one.

Little trivia here:
During the introductions, Jose dismisses the CM from the room and calls him or her senorita (miss in Spanish). This is because originally, the CM role for that attraction was cast to always be female (Supposedly, DL officials originally preferred female CMs as hostesses for all shows in the park). This is why if you have a male CM waking up Jose, he will always be called senorita and will always reply with 'and stop calling me that'. :)

That's good trivia. :)

They never replaced the Offenbach segment that they took out, and some of the verses in the other songs, but still really enjoy that show.

LOL a few years ago when I was in the tiki room the CM at the beginning said "Everyone on the count of 3 say WAKE UP HOSE"... so off we went....

1, 2, 3 WAKE UP HOSE!!!!!

He woke up and about ten seconds in his head fell off.... :rotfl: The lights came back on and the CM said "OK folks we must all exit the building before the little kids get disturbed"... :rotfl:

But yes they did update the birds or something to that effect, and the sound quality. But it is the same show.

I guess I must be the "odd man out", 'cause we went to DL last week and went to the Original Tiki Room...booorrrrriiinnnggg!!! I much prefer the Under New Management Tiki Room at WDW, at least they crack some funny jokes, etc. Normally, I'm all for keeping things in their original state, but not this time.

Can't disagree more. Under new management is horrible. Walt would turn over in his grave to see what WDW has done. In fact I have heard that they are planning on changing it back to the original for their next big anniversary. I think they are planning on changing the facades of Fantasyland as well. It needs it!

just got back from DL for the first time and was soooo happy that it was NOT under new managment!! I love the original Tiki room!!!

I gotta say, I like them both the same. I think they are both cute.

The Unofficial Guide to Disneyland calls the attraction "Enchanged Tiki Room: Under New Management" but I had never heard of the DL version getting updated. I guess they got a little confused (or copied from the UG for WDW).

DH call is (both version) the "Tiki Torture Room". He thinks he's funny...

I really liked the Offenbach part. It was really pretty sounding.

Omgosh. :lmao: I would have cried if I was there!

I really really love the Tiki Room. :lovestruc

DL doesn't have that annoying Yazo or Zazo bird from Aladin. PLus at WDW you cannot buy your Dole Whip right there and take it into the show! That was even worse than the differences in the show! :rotfl2:

S.S Columbia posted a while back a long long long long long list of things wrong with that book and she was not alone in the people who found many mistakes and it is a cute book and can help but overall the list is too long and too many things are things that a writer can check on line to verify like the name of the Tiki Room as well as things that a person who had been in the parks should have known about. Yes there is time between reports and publishing but some things like the Tiki name is not new or changed .

That book and online DLR menus are two things you got to be careful about. I checked and one site did not have Ariel's Grotto, one had the old menu and one had the new menu. That book need me to proofread it, hrmph.

Gisele, that is a good link to a very informative thread! :thumbsup2

I personally LOVE the current original (even if slightly modified) Tiki Room and I would drive all the way down to Anaheim to throw pineapples at anyone who even SUGGESTED a change to one feather on those birds' pointed little heads....

And then I'd buy a Dole Whip and eat it! :lmao:

I remember that thread. I had just read the Unofficial Guide to WDW and discovered that much of the DLR book had just been lifted out and used in the DLR guide word for word. Some of those things they didn't catch that they should be different.:confused3

It has been years since I've been in the Tiki Room. I loved that as a child and then somehow never went back. Was it closed or something for a while? It seems like it wasn't there or running or something when I looked. Anyway, I will be sure to go this June! :goodvibes

Thank you Val. :) And I agree about not changing a feather on the chiny chin chin of those beautiful and magical birds.

Pink Budgie,

Do visit the birds, the next time you have an opportunity to do so. I love them. :)
The Enchanted Tiki Room normally is in operation 7 days a week. :)

YES! Me TOO!! :goodvibes :thumbsup2
