Tiffins - has become a disappointment

Sorry to hear this :-( I took my mom there when Tiffins first opened (and they had the tasting price fix). To this day she still raves about that meal!

It still looks like an international menu to me. Not strictly African, but Asia is also a feature of the park, and some of the choices can count as African and Mediterranean since parts of northern Africa like Morocco, for instance, share many aspects of cooking with Greece and Turkey. it I honestly, think it was smarter to mix it up and honestly Disney probably did so because it wasn't doing as well before. You need to appeal to everyone and it is a 2 credit eatery in a themepark, and the other menu was likely too off-putting and people were probably complaining.

It was never just African, but mean to be international. The name is Indian, which would be rather odd for an African restaurant.

I'm just sad the Wagyu beef is gone. That was fantastic.

We ate there on Sept. 29th and ramen was still on the menu so it was removed over the last 2-3 weeks.
Such a bummer. I was looking forward to having it before my race night. Sigh. It seemed popular--wonder what gives? If I recall right it was one of the not-so-expensive meals on the menu--maybe that is the reason.

Never been to Tiffin's, but OP also mentioned Skipper's Canteen and I was disappointed there last year after hearing great things on the boards. One of their "specialties" recommended by the server was their fried chicken and it was so overcooked, dry and tasteless, and served lukewarm. My salad was meh - nothing special at all.

I don't think Disney has been a place for above-avg cuisine since '80s. These days, it's basically mass banquet-hall fare, designed to be cooked as quickly & blandly as possible to turn lots of tables & avoid alienating anyone.

Once in a while, we'll give a place a shot, but I hate throwing away big bucks on disappointing dining. So we mostly stick to QS & fun snacks now. Fewer expectations (and I actually like their QS food.) This leaves us a lot more cash to splurge on all the amazing places back home.

I was disappointed when Skipper's got rid of the yuca fries that used to come with the steak. Luckily we've since found a Latin American restaurant near home to satisfy that craving (and plantains!).

The menu changed just prior to our trip and I was so bummed I almost cancelled our anniversary reservation, but I'm so glad I didn't because it turned out that our meal on the "dumbed down" menu was even better than the more exotic one before (and I grew up in the middle east, so the prior menu was all stuff I liked). While the "surf n turf" sounded boring on paper, I still dream about it sometimes, it was THAT good. The steak was perfectly silky and tender, with an excellent sauce. The vanilla poached lobster in the surf n turf was so unique--not a flavor I would have expected, but it knocked my socks off. I even at every last bite of the perfect charred broccolini and I am not normally a veggie fan. And the bread service and charred octopus from the old menu were still there and just as good as ever.

Ah man, they removed the waygu beef. It was so good last June!! DH and I still talk about our excellent meal here.

I couldn't agree more. I remember all the exotic spices and proteins they used early on and its definitely taken a hit since then. I could be wrong but it seemed to start going down hill when the began offering the packages. We were very disappointed in our last meal. We even had to send one of our items back and we never do this. Our food was barely hot too which made me think they weren't making it to order.

When did they change? I last went May 2017 for the ROL dining package and it was awesome...

Is the one included in the surf and turf vanilla? I only saw the vanilla one mentioned as an add-on. It sounds amazing.

Yes the Surf and Turf Lobster is Vanilla Scented. It was quite unique and delicious. I loved my meal and will gladly return.

Thank you! Tiffins is also on my list of possibilities for my birthday trip in July. :)

The menu has changed fairly often this year. I had the Wagyu beef in December 2017 and since then it's been replaced by a Fort McCoy tenderloin, which has now been replaced by a Fort McCoy ribeye. Now if they could just bring back the Wagyu before I go again this December...

+1
We are going to Tiffins for our first time in December too, and I had heard good things about the Wagyu...

It is unfortunate, but if the majority of WDW diners are non adventurous type eaters, then it's just good business to cater to that.

Hmm - I'm headed there in December. We really enjoyed our meal in January.... but now I'm wondering if I should change it. The menu changes are a bit disappointing - although that pork belly dish could be good.
