Tiered Pricing on Tickets....

Are we both talking about the same thing. The one or two hours extra a day in the park, every day has one or two hours at a park that is an extra morning either in the morning or the evening and that was for resort guests only.

I’m talking about Early Morning Magic (EMM), a paid event from 7:45-9 on select mornings, with approximately 200 tickets available. 7DMT, Pooh, and Peter Pan are the only rides open and a buffet breakfast is included until 10 AM.

What you’ve described is Extra Magic Hours (EMH).

Ok, that's not what I was referring to. I was referring to the early entrance for hotel guests, not the hard sell tickets.

OK...that’s EMH. And as of right now, there’s nothing changing with EMH beyond the inclusion of the DS resorts. It’s still free and open to all Disney resort guests.

I don’t have a problem with Disney giving perks to the Disney Springs Hotels. Disney owns the land, and gets a “piece of the action” from the hotel owners. Having people stay there means a larger semi-captive audience for Disney.
So, what is the bonus does staying get you besides the magical express?

I'm kind of wondering the same thing. I bought our 6 day park hoppers for our December trip before the price increase. Will they still be honored if the tiered pricing takes effect before my trip? I sure hope so! I would think that they would be since they were purchased before the change was implemented, but who knows.
That would really surprise me. The tickets you buy before a price increase have always been good and that they have honored old non-expiring tickets. I think that they will be retroactive, but that new tickets will have a designation on them. I definitely could be wrong though, I hope not since I have already bought my tickets for December.

It seems complicated now because there are so many possibilities, and all we can do is guess without access to most of the data being used to make the decision. But whatever decision Disney makes will simplify things because that will be the only scenario remaining.

In reality, so many other elements of a WDW are already variable that ticket price variances are less impactful. If a greater portion of my WDW budget goes towards tickets, then maybe I will look for cheaper flights; or drive instead of fly; or stay at a cheaper hotel, or cut back on dining and/or souvenirs to cover the ticket increase.

If Disney really wanted to entice visitors to attend at lower crowd times, they wouldn't stop at tickets. Parking, dining, and souvenirs all cost the same regardless of the date. With all of the additional revenue sources Disney has recently created, they have so many more options to manage crowds by lowering or raising prices. Isn't the HEA fireworks dessert party worth a little more on a peak day when the park is already crowded, and it will be tougher to find good viewing without the party?
This is what I think Iger meant when he said more tiering was to come.

Free Extra Magic Hours, Free dinning on occasion, Free fast Passes 30 days sooner than non-resort guests, Free parking, Free magic bands, etc. There certainly are still myriad perks for staying on property at a Disney Resort, Extra Magic Mornings has just never been one of them; so again, I don't mind them using programs like EMM as a "tiered" option, if you will, for guests who want to pay extra to get extra.

However, they used to have a lot more EMH than they do now, and things like EMM can be construed as taking away mornings that might have previously been EMH.

MK has 2 EMH mornings per week currently. I don’t think they’ve ever had more than 2 regular EMH mornings per week. I know they add some during busy times. But I don’t think they took any morning EMH away to add EMM. If I’m wrong, I’m happy to retract this post, but I just don’t remember ever going to Disney for a week and finding 3 EMH mornings at any park.

The Disney Springs Area Hotels will receive access to Extra Magic Hours the same as official Disney hotel guests starting in 2018. The hotels participating in the previously Disney-only perks are as follows:

  • B Resort & Spa
  • Best Western Lake Buena Vista
  • DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Orlando
  • Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace
  • Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista
  • Holiday Inn Orlando
  • Wyndham Garden Lake Buena Vista

In addition to the Extra Magic Hours perks, guests who have a Walt Disney World Travel package for travel dates after January 10th and theme park tickets, will be able to utilize the FastPass+ reservation system 60-days in advance. This early booking window was also previously a perk reserved for Disney hotel guests only, but has now been expanded to the above hotels.

OK, but they didn’t take EMH away to add EMM. They just allowed more guests into EMH.

I think that is where the confusion was coming from, the verbiage I used and I did acknowledge earlier that I thought we were talking about two different things. Again, my mistake. Sorry.

We just decided no trip in 2019 today. We're looking at closer alternatives and visiting things like national parks.

We're doing the same thing. Our last three vacations have been to WDW. We've already decided our next one will NOT be a WDW vacation, and probably not the next one after that. Its just gotten too expensive for us. So we're looking for different, and cheaper, vacation spots.

There is only 1 morning EMH at MK. It is on Friday mornings.

Edited to add: I'm fairly certain there used to be more EMH (both morning and night) at the parks. For one, DHS had nighttime on Friday nights but that ended last winter or spring. Now there is a paid morning event at MK and sometimes a paid night event at MK. And they did try a paid morning event at DHS but it wasn't very successful at that time. Just FYI.

Perhaps you meant to say, "AK has 2 EMH mornings per week currently."

MK has not had 2 regularly-scheduled AM EMH per week in awhile.

There used to be morning and evening EMH pretty much every day. The morning would be at a different park than the evening. I can remember having a lot of EMH options to choose from. Gradually they have been reduced and reduced. No one can say for sure that EMM and DAK type things have replaced any EMH, because the EMH had already been reduced by so much. But it looks very suspicious when you just take it at face value.
